why is it the whole entire world understands the importance and urgency of home grown jobs produced by home grown natural energy - signs exist - one thinks the gulf oil issue and numerous other disastrous corporate decisions would wake us up - but no - see no evil - hear no evil and let evil just take over.

If the Clean Development Mechanism encourages developing nations to continue to rely on fossil fuels as they try to mimic Western development, it's a fool's road. That pattern of development can't be revisited. Fossil fuel prices are higher today than a hundred and fifty years ago. What's worse, the prices are more volatile. The Clean Development Mechanism, therefore, could tend to hamper development and perpetuate a core-periphery pattern of exploitation.
The seemingly harder road--an expensive and ambitious retooling of domestic energy infrastructure--is the only path to economic development.
And just suppose that a coal fired, gasoline propelled economy can be built in the developing world over the next fifteen years. What happens in twenty years? It will have to be replaced anyway.
Many corporations "skip" one or two generations in technology development in order to invest in more highly developed, longer-lasting, more effective technology. That's is the wise course for energy policy as well.
China understands that fossil fuel reliance and a long-term economic plan are inconsistent.
