"Wyclef is registering as candidate for president for my party," Daniel Jean Jacques, head of the country's Viv Ansanm political party, told Reuters.
He spoke as Jean, who flew into the earthquake-ravaged nation with family members aboard a private jet on Thursday, filed paperwork presenting his candidacy to Haiti's electoral authority.

If anybody has any preconceived notions about Wyclef and how he can help Haiti, you can watch this film/documentary: Ghosts of Cité Soleil
Please if you want to help, you can seek a candidate who understands the historical background of the country, the present situation and where to take it from here without help from big businesses that want to pillage the country like they've done before.
The candidate that Haiti needs would be able to speak multiple languages since communication is key and people in Haiti speak French and Haitian creole. It would also be helpful if he could speak English for the international community but it is ok if he just understand it since translators are available. Please do not back candidates because of their word only, there are many president who have stolen money from Haiti and left or went into exile like they like to call it. Some even have had many people killed.

Haiti has been known to have presidents who steal money from its coffers; Since Wyclef is not known to be good with handling money recently, he falls into that category. He also has been inclined to say that he would bring corporations to Haiti and the corporations want to help. In a recent article, he would like to have a mining industry. I see money being made on the Haitians back.
What Haiti needs is a person who has lived within the country most of their life and who knows what needs to be done, like a governor or minister from a prospering province.
The U.S would never elect someone who has not been a leader or a lawyer or anything that has to do with legislation so why should Haiti. Just because they are down does not mean that they need to choose someone that does not know anything about politics. - 1 year ago

I really wish these folks the best but they are in for a rough ride who ever they elect. From what I have seen online there are about 3% of the people working to rebuild while the rest are still standing in line for a hand out. I really wonder what is going to happen to the billions that have been donated to the recovery of the country.

well only 3% can rebuild the country. Many are illiterate and wouldn't be able to read a sign let alone build a scale model of a modern building. I would suggest rather than a monetary aid package a core of engineers being sent from various countries and resources given to them to rebuild the country. Afterwards that core could educate the people to maintain and modernize their country. This is of course the easiest plan to implement

Ya know that is the best plan I have heard yet. Have you tried to get anyone to back you on that? or to carry out that plan?

I've asked my father who works in engineering and he's started to talk about it seriously lately. I'll check with him to see if he's been able to get some traction on the idea. The main thing is this would have to be a purely humanitarian effort without any prospect of profiting and not some way to give contractors a job. They've tried that in haiti usually the deal is corrupt from get go.

Haiti will be worst if he brings corporations down there. I do not trust him at all. He shouldn't be president, it would be like letting President Bush run that country, meaning the rich would get richer. No Wyclef can't be president.

Hey ya I googled this guy an he is nothing more than a crook. He is under suspicion of being a backer in some kind of gang activity. So as i see it He could do a lot of damage to the country. Hell even worst he could act as a way for drugs and other gang activity. such as money laundering an tax evasion.
