To escape arrest in Iran, the BBC says Mohammad Mostafaei left the country via car, horseback and on foot to reach Turkey, where he gained a year visa to Norway.
Mostafaei is the lawyer defending Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who was sentenced to death by stoning on 'adultery' charges and is now feared to face execution by hanging. Mostafaei's family were arrested to pressure him to return, though he said his wife has since been released and he hopes she'll join him in Iran.
"But Mr Mostafaei fled on 24 July, saying his wife would not have forgiven him if he had turned himself in. [...]
Mr Mostafaei said he regretted leaving his clients behind.
"I've lost the ability to work on behalf of my clients. That means I've lost everything. Without that, it doesn't matter whether I'm in heaven or hell."-BBC
