The egg recall was issued due to the fear that eggs could be contaminated with Salmonella, most of the eggs from the recall list would have been consumed.http://www.buzztab.com/latest-news/egg-recall-list-increased-stop-using-eggs/

I would love to stop using eggs, but it's nigh impossible in this ridiculously small town I live in. Just today I tried to buy egg replacer, but the only ones they had were made from eggs. What the fuck is the point of egg replacer if it's made of eggs?

I like how it says "using" instead of "eating", as if there is some other use in which salmonella would be a problem. Not to mention this problem is restricted to one particular brand only. This really isn't a big deal provided you cook your eggs well. Salmonella isn't likely to kill you either, you'll just be in for a crappy few days (no pun intended).

Salmonella is destroyed at a temperature of around 155 degrees. Cook your eggs. Don't use raw eggs in any recipes that aren't later cooked. Do this and you will be OK. The world is not coming to an end, yet. - Jon Wyderka -

Those eggs have been eaten already, even if they haven't been high temperatures kill salmonella.

Good thing I own chickens. I make my own eggs because I saw this coming a mile away... and the frequency WILL increase until our farms are torn down and replaced with something that actually works.
Being a chicken owner I can tell you that they are fairly stupid... but like all animals, they don't like being cooped up (pun intended) or mistreated... and they are social animals that can grow very attached to their owners. They have personalities and they feel in much the same way we do... and when eggs have salmonella in them, that's a farm-based contamination.
What kind of people are we to keep animals in cages they can barely stretch out in... forced to eat premixed cereal all day and produce eggs? It's sickening. We are a fucked up species. That law in California to grant animals more cage space ALMOST DIDN'T PASS. It should have been unanimous no matter if there was a tax.
Shop at the farmers market, people. This shit is barbaric.
Also... there's nothing better than a fresh egg!

-Not entirely sure you can prove that statement unless you are a woman. You raise chickens, which in turn make their own eggs.

Well, if you'll eat the eggs raw, of course it would get you sick with salmonella.
there has to be something behind this "scare" like the tomatoes a few years ago. That scare was to get illegal alien farm pickers to quit working. (don't have the link handy, I'll look for it later) - 2 years ago

I thought all American eggs already had salmonella, lol.
fyi- Hard boiled eggs reach temperatures that kill salmonella.
Any egg cooked a little runny might still have bacteria in it. - 2 years ago

FYI: Hard boiling is the best method for retaining nutrient content, while scrambling is the worst. Protiens and Omega 3 fats break down in high heat, and scrambling makes this effect even worse.
Essentially... we were meant to eat EVERYTHING raw (like animals do)... but we can't because our food system is fucked.
Elephants and monkeys in the wild don't get cancer or ulcers. The reason for this is a strong nutrient profile.

Raw food isn't necessarily the best type of food.
Cooking food is what made humans so successful as a species. Cooked food is easier to digest, and makes nutrients more readily available for absorption.

Never use the word "meant" in regards to evolution, or anything that suggests a plan for that matter. We were never "meant" to eat anything in particular. Perhaps we may respond best to certain foods, but there was never any plan for what we were supposed to eat. I'm sure you know that, I just thought I'd kill some time writing this.

That's a cool article. It's a theory, though. As is the core of my argument that I really didn't want to get into... at the risk of sounding like a raving lunatic once again. I should explain my stance.
Cooking is great for short term survival... but often overlooked is our link with single celled organisms. As we began cooking and washing our hands, we started to lose more and more beneficial organisms, basically leading to holes in our defenses.
"Another group in the US is trying a pig worm on patients with ulcerative colitis or inflammation of the colon and bowel.
And scientists in Cambridge have proved that giving an extract of the tropical worm which causes bilharzia to mice can stop them developing type 1 diabetes.
The theory behind all this is that worms and other organisms, through our evolutionary history, developed a role in driving our immune systems. "
Which makes total sense, because parasites don't necessarily benefit from killing their host, so symbiotic bonds formed (just like we see with animals) between us and them.
article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7856095.stm
Long term, I feel that moving away from corralling these germs for our benefit will eventually degrade our system and leave lots of space for rent for detrimental organisms. That's at least where my research has been leading me lately.
Upon further research, I'm finding that SOME (including the most important) nutrients are destroyed in cooking... Not mentioned on the table below are essential fatty acids. That table can be sourced on wikipedia (I checked a few).
"High heat, light, and oxygen destroy EFAs, so when consuming foods for their EFA content, try to avoid cooked or heated forms. For example, raw nuts are a better source than roasted nuts. Don't use flaxseed oil for cooking, and never re-use any type of oil. I sourced this but didn't find a good article."
Here's another quote:
"high heat destroys linolenic acid, cooking in linolenic-rich oils or eating cooked linolenic-rich fish is unlikely to provide a sufficient amount. "
Omega 3s and 6s are, I would argue, the most important nutrients in our diet. Our cell walls are composed of these fats.
This is a cool table: http://www.beyondveg.com/tu-j-l/raw-cooked/raw-cooked-2e.shtml
"Anthropological and epidemiological studies and studies at the molecular level indicate that human beings evolved on a diet with a ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA) of approximately 1 whereas in Western diets the ratio is 15/1 to 16.7/1. A high omega-6/omega-3 ratio, as is found in today's Western diets, promotes the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, whereas increased levels of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (a lower omega-6/omega-3 ratio), exert suppressive effects."

I don't appreciate nitpicking... but I DO appreciate a need for "proper syntax". With that in mind:
Our bodies, just like plants, require certain nutrients to function optimally. Our body burns fuel, kind of like an engine. And much like you are not meant to put vodka in your car's gas tank, I'm arguing that you are not meant to eat processed and/or "over-produced" food. I'm saying that our bodies function the most properly (long term) when we take our lessons from natural systems, as well. I can see how... in the context of evolution, this is an improper way to phrase my argument, I suppose.
Read my most recent post above for the rest of my insane rantings.

There are some bactria that is good for you. I think that your immune system needs a good work out too. All this being afraid of germs, I think is getting out of hand. Hand washing is a good thing. Don't get me wrong, but putting on hand sanitizer every five min. is ridictules. Just my opinion.

The real solution is to support local farms ONLY. Farming animals can be a good thing if they are treated with respect. Soy is also fairly toxic. It contains a ton of xenoestrogens. I've heard the same thing about milk, though.

I cannot digest eggs , like many people . Some do not know . They are a good protein source , for them that can . I am against factory farms , About 70 food items get toxic contaminants a year , From this profit driven practice . Buy local free range , if you can . Your health and maybe your life , is at stake . .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foodborne_illness In the U.S. , 1996-1998 , CDCP estimated there were 76 million foodborne illnesses (26,000 cases for 100,000 inhabitants .) 35 billion in medical cost and lost productivity (1997).
