Three boats a year under Tony Abbott...AUSTRALIA

OPPOSITION Leader Tony Abbott has set a Coalition government the target of limiting unauthorised boat arrivals to three a year, saying he deserves to be "very harshly judged" if it fails.

Mr Abbott said on average three boats a year had arrived under previous Coalition governments between 2002 and 2007, and he was aiming for the same result.

"If I can achieve three boats a year ... I think the Australian public would have every reason to be grateful to the new government," he said in Sydney today.

Mr Abbott said he would regard as having "very substantially succeeded" if arrivals could be kept to three a year, adding he hoped to make a significant difference to boat arrivals within three months of being elected.

The Opposition Leader was pressed by journalists on whether he or his immigration spokesman Scott Morrison would stand down if the boat target was not met.

Mr Abbott said he would not be drawn on whether he or his likely immigration minister Scott Morrison would stand down if the target was not met.

But he said he expected to be judged harshly if he did not meet his promises to voters.

"I know if we don't succeed we will be very harshly judged by the Australian people at the next election."

...ahhh, the PC crowd...I still think the Auzzie spirit and saying it like it is still remains part of our makeup to this day...but in saying that, I'm torn both ways on the issue...the Italians, Greeks and (Polish-when the Snowy Mountains scheme was in full swing, they came here as workers) are a part of the amazing tapestry...I just have a problem with the ones that don't integrate, and try to shove their beliefs onto others, hence causing PC to rear it's head...we have always celebrated Chistmas down under, and not from a dominant religious point of view, but for the kids...the same with Easter/eggs...now, these parts of our tapestry are unravelling...especially in our schools...well, ya know what I mean...but I think, Julia, (if she succeeds) will also treat the whole refugee issue with a sound economic mindset apropos what is sustainable for Australia...(I hope...lol)...well, it's nearly 5am, on Saturday, and election day is here...and I hope the "redhead" kicks a goal...and Abbott's flotilla...lol...doesn't smash "Gillard's Island"...cheers...

...lol...well, on the eve of the Federal election...which is Saturday 21st...it's neck and neck in the polls, which is a worry, as I fear Abbott will garner a lot of votes for limiting the huge influx of refugees to 3 a year...at the moment, Christmas Island is bursting at the seams, with processing long and arduous...and still they keep coming...actually, I think it's a good thing...these refugees just want a chance at a life, and heaven knows, we've got room...maybe not along the major coastal cities, but the rural towns are dying, and these refugees would certainly give a boost to the flagging rural economy...so, cross your fingers for Julia...our present PM...(athiest, single, female)...lol...or as my father describes her..."the barren redhead"...of course, Julia is Labour, and dear old dad, is a staunch Liberal...hey, baby...
