Other Countries Probing Bush-Era Torture - Why Aren't We?

Judges in Great Britain, Spain, Australia, Poland and Lithuania are preparing to hear allegations that their governments helped the CIA run secret prisons on their soil or cooperated in illegal U.S. treatment of terrorism suspects. Spanish prosecutors also have filed criminal charges against six senior Bush administration officials who approved the harsh interrogation methods that detainees say were employed at U.S. military prisons in Afghanistan, Iraq, Guantanamo Bay and other sites.
Detainees already have won one victory in a foreign court: Last November, an Italian judge convicted a CIA station chief and 22 other Americans — nearly all CIA officers and contractors — in the 2003 kidnapping of a Muslim cleric who ended up in a secret prison in Egypt.
The trend, although it's slow-moving and involves disparate plaintiffs, forums and legal strategies, could represent the end of a reviled chapter of the U.S.-led war on terrorism, which ensnared hundreds of detainees with the clandestine cooperation of dozens of countries. Now, some of those countries, led by new governments or under pressure from their citizens, are trying to pry open those secrets.
Last month, the new British prime minister, David Cameron, announced a judicial inquiry into whether British intelligence services had participated in the abuse of terrorism suspects. Cameron's decision followed a public outcry over the case of Binyam Mohamed, an Ethiopian national living in Britain who charges that British authorities knew that CIA agents were torturing him in Pakistan, Morocco, Afghanistan and Guantanamo and did nothing to stop it.
"Our reputation as a country that believes in human rights, justice, fairness and the rule of law ... risks being tarnished," Cameron said.

Torturing Terrorists saved American lives and Islam tortures people every day on any excuse, and have done so for centuries,it was about time they got a dose of their own medicine! The only thing Bush did that I agreed with! Islam has caused so much pain and misery that they deserve nothing less Themselves!

Why? Because we don't care. We are here in our secure (?) little cocoon, insulated from the rest of the world.
Actually, did anyone get prosecuted for Daniel Pearls murder? No, because he was an American. Is anyone from any other country, other than Nazi Germany, ever been prosecuted for anything, oh yeah, also Bosnia, a couple guys there were executed for war crimes? Oh, also Tojo. But it's a very short list.
They aren't going to do anything to Bush, Cheney, or any of the others, once again, they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I have to agree with you on this one. But I don't think it is because we do not care. The arab world has been painted as evil ever since 9/11 and like good little robots we believed them. We were in such shock that someone would bomb us, that we were not given time to think. We were all caught up in " OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!!!" We were ready to kill whoever our government said it was. We are American and we believe in fighting to keep our country safe. The only problem was that we were lied to. I think think the most of us do not want to believe that we were lied to. But sooner or later we will have to face the truth. I know for me I did not really start looking into our foriegn policies until after 9/11. I thought we were out there helping people, defending the weak, ect. Now I know better. I wish that we as people could talk to the people one on one and let them know that these policies are not what we want, but what corporations and other big businesses want.

Agreed Chris. We generally believe what the government tells us, because we don't want to believe they are lying to us, but it is also clear that big business is running the government these days, profit above all else, no matter who is in the drivers seat, Repub or Demo.
As for impeaching the Pres., either Clinton or Bush, they've got to do something pretty egregious, for Congress to get their shit together enough to take someone out of office. And it would have to be on American Soil, it doesn't matter to most if it happens in the Persian Gulf/Middle East or anywhere else, we'd have to see it. They could drop a nuke on Switzerland, and it wouldn't draw Congress together enough to do anything. Just look at how they act towards each other. There isn't any real difference between them, except the label, yet they act like Arabs and Isrealis towards each other. It doesn't make sense to me. Kind of like San Francisco 49er fans vs. Oakland Raider fans. Their 10 miles from each other, yet they hate each other.

the only thing that really happened with this "investigations" would be ..micheal moore got rich..oliver stone got rich..everybody who made a book about it got rich...
can anyone tells us about these crimes without it being "$old" to people in book or movie form??
its has become a "lets milk the idiots" crusade
by the way..that unemployment check is NOT a payroll check and would not "stimulate" the economy .(LOL)

Gramatical correction time!
The only thing that really happened with these (not this, because the word this implies a singular noun, and the noun used, "investigations" is in plural form) investigations was that; (not would be because would be implies that something is potentially future tense and has yet to happen, but the tense defining word used is "happened", which defines the tense as past tense) Michael Moore, Oliver Stone, and everybody who made a book got rich.
And although you an unemployment check is not a payroll check, it does help people who have lost their jobs stay afloat while they search for other work to support themselves and help support the economy.

I would also like to point out that even if she went on a shopping spree with the country's money she would still cost us less money than the republicans and their "war on terror" which in cased you haven't noticed is just a bunch of trumped up bullhsit.

I was surprised and shock when Obama said that we shoud look to the future and not dwell on the past. I knew then that nothing was going to happen to Bsh and Cheney. Something was happening behind the scenes that we may never find out about. How could we just dismiss their actions. Yet still there where only whispers of outrage.

i think a precident has been set by ford that for some reason is honored as if it were a tradition.he pardoned nixon, and we didnt look in to war crimes for vietnam, wich we were guilty of worse than now.bush pardoned scooter libby just cuz he felt like it.its like thier is a pardon line we dont cross with our leaders.
so obama got a pass on having to make that unprecidented move to go after the previous guys administration.what does that lead to though, and dont get me wrong i think bush should face courts in iraq and afganastan, not here.how many presidential terms before we become acustom to the new guy beating up on his predicessor.
if that is a tradition we keep, and our economy collapses (no empire lasts forever) it would be ette brutus all the time.we would be like the romanovs or the romans or any of the bazillion civilizations where new power is born from the death of the previous.or i could be extrapilating way to deep and too far ahead
