The 'rape charges' against Wikileaks found Julian Assange were dropped by a prosecutor in Sweden. The article by the Guardian states the news of the charges were leaked to a tabloid newspaper in Sweden from the police, and the paper then printed a story saying he was going to be arrested.

"The Swedish Prosecution Authority today said an "on-call" prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for Assange late on Friday, only to see it revoked the next day by a higher-ranked prosecutor who found no grounds to suspect him of rape.[...]Sources close to the woman said that issues arose during the relationships about Assange's willingness to use condoms."-Guardian

    • This despicable creature is truly the lowest of the low. People putting their lives on the line for LIfe and Freedom have been sold-out and cruelly betrayed by this pedophile. This jerk obviously has no respect for any person and in far from ever capable of being a decent man. I hope he pays for all of his heinous, and cruel actions.

    • wow... just ... wow.

I mean don't get me wrong, if this guy did do what the warrent claimed then cool, but if this is a smear campaign then shame on them. If this is a smear campaign by the CIA then hey, nothing new.

    • I find it hard to believe the Pentagon are being so obvious about this, I'd expect the Department of Defense of the most powerful country in the world to be at least a bit more professional.

Assange has categorically denied Swedish sexual abuse charges launched against him.

The country's prosecution authority has dropped an arrest warrant for a rape charge, but a separate molestation accusation is still under investigation.

WikiLeaks has been criticised for leaking Afghan war documents. And despite warnings from the Pentagon, the website is preparing to release a fresh batch of classified documents.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Assange said that the accusations are part of a "smear campaign" against him.
