This is the first statement from the women, Mary Bale, who was caught on CCTV putting a cat in a bin for no apparent reason. From the statement released, it sounds like she might have been unaware of her actions and there is still an investigation being carried out by police and the RSPCA. So it could mean her statement will be checked if it is true.
[update] sounds like the Sun got a different statement "Speaking to The Sun, the woman said people were "overreacting". She said: "I really don't see what everyone is getting so excited about - it's just a cat." "I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly thought it would be funny to put it in the wheelie bin which was right beside me. I did it as a joke because I thought it would be funny. Some internet forums and comment questioned if the woman has dementia, which would explain out of character actions.
