Man Arrested For Holding “Impeach Obama” Sign Shocking Video!

im1mjrpain
This first day of the 2010 Alaska State Fair starts with sunny skies and a brutal assault by security personnel on a LaRouche supporter.

At about 5pm Alaska Time, Thursday, August 26, 2010, security personnel approach Sidney Hill, a lone man peacefully displaying an impeach Obama sign near Pioneer Plaza on the Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer. Minutes later, a crowd assembles, additional security forces arrive, and they physically assault the man holding the sign. He’s taken to the ground with force and detained.

An unidentified Alaska State Trooper arrives to physically disperse the crowd, and at several points during the conflict, crowd members yell in support of the demonstrator’s right to speak his message. The demonstrator’s personal firearm is confiscated by fair security, and he is held captive until Palmer police arrive to escort the man away in cuffs.

Sidney Hill was in jail awaiting a pre-trial at 1:00pm on August 27, 2010 at the Palmer Courthouse. He has been charged with Assault 4-Cause Fear Of Injury, Disorderly Conduct-Challenge To Fight, and Criminal Trespass 2- Upon Premises. However, according to the Valley Frontiersman newspaper, “Assistant District Attorney Trina Sears said her office decided not to prosecute Hill on the assault charge.”

    • So far as the Political campaigning, I did not see him campaigning for anyone. The web site http://larouchepac.com/ is not campaigning for anyone it is just a great place to go to read about the truth. I never did once see VOTE for anyone, did you? So, there for he did not need to rent a both. And yes, that is Public Property. Where I live our fairgrounds are owned by the City. Paid for by the city using taxpayers money coming from the tresury departmant that our tax dollars are deposited. All of the money collected from the vendors and the company that puts on the fair, that money is earned revenue for the city to help for city expences. So yes, he was on public property. Another thing, All rule and policies should have been posted for everyone to see before they can subdue/restrain this guy. In big bold letters on their rules and guidlines should have been: FREE SPEACH NOT ALLOWED or NO ONE IS TO SPEAK NEGETIVELY ABOUT OBOMA!

    • As flyingkick said if you break their rules they do have the right to ask you to leave. But the question is what are the fair ground rules, did he or anyone else for that matter ever receive these rules and were they posted? If not, the security officers had no right to ask him to leave.

    • "It doesn't matter if someone assaults you, if you are not causing them harm you don't have the right to assault them," said Josh Fannon who is Hill's attorney. "The security guards assaulted him, it's clearly on the video of them taking him down for no apparent reason other than him holding the sign." "People walk around that place all the time with banners signs, clothing."

Listen, here's what the judge is going to say:
Did security ask you to leave?
      Yes.
      Did you leave?
      No.
OK, well, you're guilty of trespassing.
Trespassing gives security the right to remove him. Resisting security gives them the right to restrain him.
The only thing they can get security with is for an unnecessary use of force- I just don't see it on the video.

I know it doesn't seem fair, but that's how the law works.

I just explained it to you, lol.

If you're on private property and the owner/staff/security asks you to leave, you must leave, otherwise it's considered trespassing.
It doesn't matter if you bought a ticket or not. Think about a movie theater. You buy a ticket to watch a movie and you're allowed in. But if you violate any of the theater's policies (talking too loud, drinking alcohol, using a phone), you may be asked to leave, and if you refuse, you're trespassing. This is really basic legal stuff here.

The guy was trespassing the second he refused to leave when security asked him to.

    • Another backassward headline.

Political campaigning at a Fairground requires you to rent a booth and follow vendor guidelines.
Security asked him to leave, he didn't- that's trespassing- that's why he was taken down to the ground.

No violation of free speech happened here. It took me 2 minutes to figure that out by using the links you provided. Why are you posting this crap? Or, a better question: Why are you posting the links that discredit your spin on the story, lol?
If you're gonna post propaganda, at least do it right, lol.

yes but the definition of vendor would be "a supplier of any goods or services?" seems like he shouldn't need a lic to sell when he isnt selling anything, So if it was a Smaller poster size version that he attached to his back would be ok?

They should have told him that. And they should have told him it was private property. I didn't see them telling him it was private property when he said "this is public property". They didn't give him a reason, didn't read him his rights. Nothing.

There ARE laws that say you have to do that kinda stuff you know. If they had I would agree with you. But they didn't say "Sir, this is not public property this is fairground property, you must follow vendor guidelines in advance of an event." etc etc. Not one of them said that, not one of them radioed to someone else to ask event organizers if it was private property, not one of them called police (REAL COPS NOT RENTACOPS) to let them handle the situation.

I notice the convenient undercover cop 'shows up' right when he thinks the crowd is about to attack the security guards. And by 'attack' I mean help the old man breath whose being improperly crushed into the ground so that he can't breathe but bumbling moron rent-a-cops. Why didn't the undercover cop do anything before that? Did he not see a threat before that point? Or worse, he realized they just made an illegal attack and arrest of an elderly handicapped man that he didn't want to associate himself with in fear of losing his badge?

Here's my BIGGEST QUESTION OF ALL: Why wasn't he stopped at the front gate? Who let him in with that humongous fucking sign in the first place??????

So let me get this straight... you found something that shows the rules for this particular event? And they clearly state political campaigning at a Fairground requires you to rent a booth and follow vendor guidelines? IF so then post the link. You think everyone's just supposed to take you word on this? Post a link or shut up.

Why did I post this? Simple because I can. Now put that link up or stop the BS. Stay posted I'm bout drop some really good posts today.

It doesn't matter if it's public or private property, that's not really an issue. Either way, if he wants to campaign, he needs to get a booth and follow vendor rules. They don't have to explain anything to him, other than what he's doing is against policy and that he needs to leave. He resisted, so that gave them the right to restrain him. Security guards are allowed to restrain people, believe it or not- it's basically a citizen's arrest.

lol, oh man, you gotta be kidding me...
Did you even read any of the links you provided?

"Fair marketing director Dean Phipps says the fair has an unwritten policy against people campaigning in common areas of the fairgrounds.

If people want to deliver a political message -- on abortion or Pebble Mine, for example -- they're expected to rent a booth and follow vendor guidelines, he said.

As for the security guards? Did they go too far?

Phipps defended the use of force seen in the clip.

“The initial attempt was to educate him and let him know what the rules were, and he became belligerent. They felt that they were assaulted ... and then responded to that.”

So we can't just arrest anyone for yelling then?

And what would constitute 'disturbing the peace' exactly? What if my definition of disturbing the peace was a person talking on their cellphone? Shall I alert the police and tell them to arrest them because they've disturbed 'my' peace? What if that person says I've disturbed their peace by calling the police on them? Would the police arrest both of us?

    • Don't remember to read this line, "The demonstrator’s personal firearm is confiscated by fair security". This important fact is carefully omitted from the title and its absence alters the reader's perception.
I own multiple firearms and consider them a completely rational possession, but if you bring a gun to a rally you can expect that you'll be "inconvenienced" at least 90% of the time. We can debate the justness of that point but it should be separated from this story's insinuation that this man was detained simply for holding a sign.
There are three general groups of thinking regarding firearms in public settings.
      1. There is violence therefore I don't want people to carry guns
      2. There is violence therefore I want to carry a gun to protect myself
      3. I'm carrying my gun to drive home a message and I'm probably a jerk.

Consider this, if the man's sign had been about gun ownership he'd probably have fared better, but in this age of random shootings you can't expect MOST people to tolerate political activists carrying guns. Sorry if that just blows your mind but it's just a fact. If you want MOST people tolerate open firearm carrying you'll probably want to put your efforts into quelling the high levels of random shootings brought on by mental illness, economic disadvantage, educational inequality, and the police stress state given to us by the failed war on drugs.

Seriously, to all you Tea Partiers, how many of you would have applauded the arrest of a dread locked black guy legally carrying a gun with an "Impeach Bush" sign?

      crickets.....

The left doesn't feel sorry for you. You're just joining the club. A club they've been a part of.

Tip from the left. Don't fight the cops or security as they take you away. Go limp. It's harder for them and easier for you.

I don't think that this "impeach" stuff is the way to go. He's going to up for re-election soon. His policies can be "neutralized" by making new laws that cancel his directives. I'm starting to see this "impeachment threat" as veiled racism.

He was upset because he can clearly see that he is being singled out for whatever reason and his inalienable right to free speech is being denied. Does anyone feel like our country is really going through some drastic changes or is it just me? Here is another video clearly showing that we are not as free as we think we are. • People, look carefully at this video. This guy is yelling at the guards, resisting arrest, the video cuts out parts so we don't know what we've missed-- overall it's obviously inflammatory, to say the least. For example, the man WRAPS HIS LEGS AROUND THE SECURITY GUARD (at exactly 4 minutes) and then screams "owww oww get off me! I'm disabled!" He was asking for it and it was definitely all for show. And this video has been heavily edited so we're only seeing the part of the story that the anti-government, so called "free speech" propaganda producers want us to see.

Upset man with gun in pocket, in the middle of a crowd? If he had shot someone, we would be blaming the security. I avoid large crowds, Tarl Cabot says ''Where they allow no arms, it's best to be armed''.

First off I'd agree with you that private and public "security" forces have gotten into the habit of VASTLY abusing their authority in this county.
And yes, private and public security personnel in this country should ALL be taking remedial classes in Constitutional rights, with frequent updates.
The clever way that corporate interests have gotten around the bothersome"free speech" issue when they they don't approve of the message, or the distraction from commerce, is to make all the formerly public area of malls, signed private property.
We just went through a thousand nasty examples of that trimming back of free speech during the Bush regime.
This happened in Alaska with some private security guards, on reputed "private property." I'd note that the security guards actually started off with remarkable restrain in the fact of the personal provocation the dusty old dude was giving them, but still, aside from their particular issue (said to be blockage of access) the old dude had the perfect right to protest there, as far as I'm concerned.
Sadly, (and I agree, it's a gross erosion of liberty) courts in the US hold otherwise.
If you haven't seen it there is an even more egregious example of this kind of fake badge and stuffed uniform mistreatment from a week or so ago in Los Angeles. Two deaf men leaving a Forever 21 store in LA and didn't hear the security beep at the exit door. Two burly security guards tackled one of the deaf men and started choking him on suspicion of shoplifting. The other deaf man was waving his arms frantically and trying to inform the guard the man he was strangling couldn't hear and was waving their receipts from the store. It went on endlessly, a very brutal scene.
When you say we live in a Fascist State, I'd argue that there ARE strong elements of fascism in private and public areas of our society.
I just don't see them as generally that coordinated though.
(At least since Bush and Cheney left the halls of power.)
Any time you want to work toward rolling back the royal exemption that commercial malls get from the First Amendment, I'm with you on that, bro.

      2. Why is there people without shirts, or with skirts on in Alaska?
      3. He was resisting arrest.
      4. There is a cut in the film preventing you from seeing what happened right before they grabbed him.
      5. He says he is overheating and wants to take his shirt off. Then he says he needs a drink because he is over heating, whiskey?
      6. There is a lady who yells at about 4:42 "yeah your on video" she sounds like
      she is holding the camera.
But at 0:15 it was a male voice refusing to stop filming, the male voice returns
at 5:19 trying rile up the crowd.
      7. Around 4:25 there almost sounds like someone added extra voices.
      8. Obama does not control the thoughts and actions of cop in America. If the president had that power then George Bush must have compelled the cops in New Orleans to conduct random street executions during Katrenia.

Bottom line is that this video is designed to make people fear government to advance the career of people running for government.
