Obama: 'I Can't Spend All My Time With My Birth Certificate Plastered On My Forehead'

In an interview with NBC's Brian Williams that aired yesterday, President Obama addressed the lingering rumors about his birth and religion, condemning what he calls a "network of misinformation" and taking a swipe at the birther movement.

"We went through some of this during the campaign," Obama said in response to a question about the rising number of Americans who think he's a Muslim. "There is a mechanism, a network of misinformation that in a new media era can get churned out their constantly."

"I will always put my money on the American people and I'm not going to be worrying too much about whatever rumors are floating out there," Obama said.

Even facing the beliefs of a number of Americans "as sizable as this?" Williams asked. "I can't spend all my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead. The facts are the facts," Obama responded.

    • I have read the Argument, that galwayman posted. A Simple study of Public Law will advise you to the fact, that His mother was in Full Faith and Credit, a United States Citizen, thus Never abdicating due to marriage with other Nationalities.

Please examine the true protocol, of Natural Born Citizens, as it is Clear, A Child Born abroad, to U.S. Citizens, by Naturalization or Natural Birth - Citizenship applies to the Child, Automatically. Without Examination.

Study to show thyself Approved... In the sight of all Men.

Then my friend I have to say that is a foolish attitude to take on this issue! we all thought anything or anybody would be better after Bush, however in hindsight that turns out not to be true and Obama has done more to take our rights away then Bush did and while Bush started that dance Obama has not only continued it but exceeded Bush in this area. The re-authorization of the Patriot Act,which is totally Unconstitutional, the homegrown Terrorist Act,The bill that would shut down our Internet,I could go on and on. He has not only insured that he won't be re-elected,but has also hurt the the democrats and cost them the majority in both houses, which you'll see after the mid term elections are over,he has also insured that some extreme right wing conservative will get elected President due to his far left agenda, and that no Democrat will get elected President,or have the majority in congress for a long long time to come! This president has turned out to be the worst in history and he has blown it badly! Not to mention the lies about his birth a religion! If it was up to me and those of us who have had it up to here he'd be Impeached!

Alot depends on who the republican canitdate is and what the platform of the party is. The republican party as of now plans on going right back to what we were doing that threw us into this recession and the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over expecting different results.

    • Well there's plenty of evidence out there that he was born in Kenya and that his Birth father was not an American Citizen and a Muslim. he was raised in Indonesia by a Muslim stepfather,he attended Muslim schools, and worshiped in a Mosque! now I am no Birther but there is clear evidence out there that can't be ignored! To be President not only must both birth parents be American Citizens but you must be born here to be Constitutionally qualified to serve as President! He isn't and should be Impeached!

Should I repost the reply I made to someone else earlier? I think you might want to read it considering that by your definition of who can be president McCain also couldn't have become president. Even though he was born of two American parents, McCain was born in Panama before the law went into effect that the military bases in Panama were considered "American soil". Also I think that if you're going to say there's "evidence" that he was born in Kenya then you should cite your sources and hope that they are reliable because reliable sources, including the State of Hawaii and the local Hawaii papers which published news of Obama's birth 40 years ago, say that Obama was born in the United States. I also think you're underestimating Congress to think they'd let someone unqualified become president. Oh and, not that it matters because we have something called freedom of religion in this country but, Obama isn't Muslim. Congratulations on being part of the 18% of the public that believes this.

Whos buying what con here? You are beleving in things that have been repeatedly proven to be lies and basless acusations. Im just saying. perhaps instead of attacking obama you should look at the con the GOP is running on you. If you think you precious tea party exists because the people wanted it to think again it's all a ploy, every last bit of it. The republicans want you to distrust and hate Obama so they can win Congress and the Presidency then they can right back to raping our country and people for their own profit.

Are you saying Obama does NOT eating babies?

      Where is your proof?

There is PLENTY of evidence that he eats babies! It cannot be ignored!

You are just one of those mindless Obama-worshipers who is transfixed by his hypnotic repetition of the phrase "let me be clear". When ever he says that, it brainwashes people like you to ship their babies to him!

Why do you think there are daily shipments of babies to the White House?

      He is CLEARLY eating babies!

    • Not that it really matters but what is stuck to his head in that picture is his "certification of live birth" not the actual "birth certificate" in question. So really what Obama meant was that "I can't spend all my time with my (short form) certification of live birth plastered on my forehead."

There is a difference. The State of Hawaii has verified that Obama holds a valid birth certificate, however upon repeated requests for the birth certificate, they refuse to release it.

I don't care where the guy was born, but the fact that all of Obama's records have been sealed, (some upon presidential order) and the fact that Congress actually had to write in some crackerjack legislation to declare that he was born in Honolulu is more than enough to suggest that whatever is going on with this guy isn't kosher. What it really matters at the end of the day I'm not so sure.

      http://Hawaii.gov

Well I'm not going to sit here and argue with you, but you can go to Hawaii.gov and see the actual form to request a "birth certificate" and see that the state of Hawaii obviously calls them "birth certificates." So there is a such thing as a Hawaii "birth certificate."

      http://hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/pdf/birth.pdf

You can also go to a website called http://www.hawaiibirthcertificate.com/ and see that in addition to ordering a "birth certificate," this company can also obtain for you a "certified birth record," which scrolling down to the bottom of the website, one can easily see that they are two different forms:

"Other certified vital records from Hawaii
In addition to certified birth certificates, Hawaii Vital Records also issues certified copies of Birth Records for events that occurred within the State of Hawaii."

This is because of a Hawaii State Law preventing random people from being able to obtain a copy of your birth certificate. What happened to freedom of privacy?

      Please read: http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=10121617

If you can't: "A few of these requesters continue to pepper the Health Department with the same letters seeking the same information, even after they're told state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest. 'Responding wastes time and money' "

Now, I know that unless you buy a ticket to Hawaii, pretend to be Obama's grandmother and request Barack Obama's birth certificate, nothing will make you people happy.

      That said, please see: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

The fact that people are spending so much bloody time on this while things like, you know, Genocide in Darfur keep going unnoticed.

Ok, so that's a no to reading anything provided.

      From the FactCheck.org website posted:

"FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false."

No, it wasn't released by the White House, because this all happened OVER A YEAR AGO, during the campaign. The birth certificate is a CERTIFICATION OF A LIFE BIRTH. Your confusion over the difference here is literally semantic. You wrote in an earlier post, citing the language used on some company's website; this does not somehow mean that there's a difference between the two. If a live birth takes place in the state of hawaii, there is a certificate of live birth. Otherwise known as a birth certificate.

Both my kids have Certificates of Live birth.

Oh shit... maybe... MAYBE THEY'RE MUSLIM TERRORISTS TOO!!

Even with photographs, even though there was an official copy made available to the public from the campaign office during the campaign, even though it's been officiated over and over again and even though there's a perfectly valid reason (a law in place since well before Obama was even a politician) for the state not giving it to every moron with an email account and Glenn Beck on in the background, none of it will ever be enough.

Just go look at the damned factcheck.org website.

First of all, it doesn't take a presidential order to keep people from obtaining something like a birth certificate. Even though there's such a thing as the Presidential Records Act, this only concerns records which have bearing on the president's actual performance of his duty. It doesn't include personal records and normally birth records held by the government are protected by the Privacy Act Amendment of 1974 which was added onto the Freedom of Information Act to protect people's private records from being viewed by anyone who is not themselves, a legal guardian, or a court with a warrant. If the government gives out your information without permission you can sue them which is most likely the reason why the state won't give the current president's information out to just anybody. Even if someone wants to bring up some kind of case and get a warrant to retrieve his record, what kind of accusation are they going to make? I believe that someone tried to bring a case about Obama's and even McCain's status as a natural born citizen to court and they were both dismissed.

Anyways, this whole argument comes from a long-standing debate which existed before Obama even ran for office and that is the debate over the term "natural-born citizen" as it appears in the Constitution. The term was never officially defined by the founding fathers and because the exact meaning of this term has been debated, not just Obama, but also McCain's status as a "natural-born citizen" have been questioned. They are both citizens without a doubt. Obama was born in Hawaii and is a citizen because he was born on American soil and McCain is a citizen because he was born to two American parents even though he wasn't born on American soil. But can we say that they are "natural-born citizens" is what the question is. It really bothers me when people get involved in these arguments about semantics without even knowing that it IS an argument over semantics and assume that there must be, out there somewhere, some kind of concrete evidence that supports the accusations. Depending on how you interpret the term "natural born citizen" you might indeed find "proof" that Obama is not a "natural born citizen" and you might also find "proof" that McCain is not a "natural born citizen." Without taking these issues to court somehow or passing legislation there can be no definite solution to an argument like this. It's just people throwing mud at their political opposition using possible interpretations of the meaning of the Constitution. If they were really concerned about this issue they would have passed legislation on it long ago in order to define the term "natural born citizen" but they didn't. It only comes up when they feel threatened by their political opposition. Actually it really disgusts me how politicians start making all this noise about it and then people just blindly follow and accept their "proof" without understanding the root of the issue and making a decision for themselves about the meaning that was intended in the wording of the Constitution. The reason nobody has done anything about Obama becoming president "even though he isn't a citizen" is because he is a citizen and the only way they can say that he isn't a "natural born citizen" is by passing legislation which defines the word and even if they do the definition won't apply to him anyways because it would only apply to future elections. These people requesting Obama's birth certificate and documents probably know they won't get them, they are just trying to stir people up.

Edit : Either that or they foolishly saw "natural born citizen" and took it to mean "citizen" without realizing that they aren't the same thing and now they are determined to find proof to support the accusation that Obama is not a "citizen," have spread the word, and have incited others to search for evidence. I'd like to think that such a thing couldn't happen but I wouldn't be surprised if the whole "Obama isn't a citizen" rumor/argument/idea had such an origin. America sure loves the telephone game.

The President of these United States is not,and should not,be immune from producing the documents requested! the evidence is already there that he isn't a natural born citizen, which by the way means two things: First his father wasn't a citizen of the United States, that should disqualify him, second that he was not born within our boarders, but in Kenya, was raised in Indonesia,in both cases his mother, who was a citizen, married twice to non citizens. The founding fathers worded the Constitution that way to insure that our Presidents had no other loyalty to any other country except the United States! If Obama had the slightest respect he'd come clean on this issue, and produce the requested documents! He stated in his speech to the UN that he doesn't respect our Constitution and wants to "change it" to reflect HIS world view! This President has no respect for our laws or values,is not Constitutionally qualified to occupy the oval office, and should be Impeached before he turns this country into something our forefathers would cringe at!

Please show me where you get your evidence from that he was born in Kenya. So far you sound like you are regurgitating something that you heard someone else say. If you really believe this then I am sorry, I disagree. I have enough faith in the branches of government to be sure that they would not elect a foreigner to the office of president. I sure don't think the Republicans would stand for it and if they believed it to be true I'm sure that the officials of our judiciary branch would have heard the cases against Obama both before and after the elections instead of dismissing them. Also, I'm not sure what part of the Constitution Obama supposedly referred to in the speech where he said he "doesn't respect it" but I hope you at least know that our Constitution was designed so that it could be changed to reflect society as society's needs changed. You know the Bill of Rights? Those are amendments to the Constitution, just like the abolishment of slavery and women's right to vote which came later. I hope you're not suggesting that we should never have amended the Constitution and that we never should in the future either? Even if you're against having correcting the social inequalities that existed in American I hope you'd at least agree that the Constitution couldn't predict the need for legislation on things like wireless communications or the internet or the way that technology would change our lives. And even if he wanted to "change it" to reflect "his" world view you do know that presidents can't introduce new laws into Congress right? Only the legislative branch can do that. So someone from Congress has to first write the legislation, then get it passed through the Senate or the House, and then it has to go to the other legislative branch and get approved in that one as well. How the heck is Obama gonna change anything all by himself? He can't. Even if you don't like Obama's world view you don't have to be bothered by it because it has very little to do with the alteration of the Constitution or the creation of new laws. He can veto stuff he doesn't like or mobilize the military during wartime. That's just about it. Oh and about the president not being "immune" to producing documents. You didn't read what I wrote. It's not that he's immune, it's that he has the same rights that every other person in this country has. Do you think it should be okay for strangers to access the birth records of people in your family, to access your medical or financial records? I doubt it right? It's not that he's getting some type of immunity, it's that he's a citizen of this country with the same rights that the rest of us have also been granted by the Constitution.

You're still missing the point? The documents have the same purpose.

You posted a webpage for a company that can obtain birth certificates (certificates of live birth) which had an author that used two different terms. You are, at this point, literally arguing over semantics.

Regardless, and again I know you won't read anything posted in response to any of these factually inconsistent replies, but again I refer you to the Factcheck.org website.

      There are even pictures.

"I'm only pointing out the obvious discrepancies with Obama." There are zero discrepancies. Zero. The birth certificate was already made public, but instead of admitting this, acknowledging this (because obviously no amount of evidence will ever be enough) you fall back on any possible explanation. Any tiny way that this conspiracy theory might be legitimate.

"Here's the birth certificate." "That's not a birth certificate! It's a certificate of live birth."

      or

"Here's an orange." "That's not an orange! It's an orange colored, round citrus fruit!"

I know you've utterly ignored the 19 people who've already pointed this out but you should be aware that Obama's mother was an American citizen and, according to U.S. law, that immediately grants citizenship.

But you know, I'm sure his Certificate of Live Birth/Birth Certificate/Live Birth Certification/Notice of the baby not being dead is probably printed on the wrong kind of paper, or signed with a Bic pen instead of a Union pen... or they used black instead of the blue... etc.

No amount of evidence will ever be enough, because you don't want it to be.

"The document is a "certification of birth," also known as a short-form birth certificate. The long form is drawn up by the hospital and includes additional information such as birth weight and parents' hometowns. The short form is printed by the state and draws from a database with fewer details. The Hawaii Department of Health's birth record request form does not give the option to request a photocopy of your long-form birth certificate, but their short form has enough information to be acceptable to the State Department."

But again, that doesn't count, it cannot possibly be real because they don't have the original hospital copy.

Tell you what. Try an experiment. Take about 25-50$, go down to your State Office of Records, and request your birth certificate so you can post it on a website.

You'll get a photocopy of the short form.

In some states and for another fee, you can get a notorized, seal-imprinted photocopy of your birth record.

Even if for some reason his birth certificate was lost in a fire, zomg! His mother was STILL a citizen and STILL Obama would be a citizen by birth.

But again... there's nothing that will ever convince you people.

Well I have to stand corrected, and no one on the forum can say that I will not admit if I am incorrect on something.

I went home and checked my birth certificate and it does indeed say "certification on live birth" and not "birth certificate." However, my certification of live birth states the county and hospital where I was born. Also, my certificate of live birth looks almost identical to this one which is a Hawaii state issue certificate of live birth. Note that this certificate of live birth states that this female was born at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital.

This will be my last post on the matter, but if there is a discrepancy on Obama's eligibility then he should open his sealed files since he is not a private figure he is a public figure and has promised transparency. And if he want's to clear the birth certificate thing up then he should show the long form so that people can verify which hospital he was born; either Queens, Kapi'olani Medical Cener, or Coast Hospital, Mombassa.

We're braindead, but you utterly missed the point.

"i said he should go on TV to put the smack-down on the American Idiots, that's not placating, that's talking shit about how stupid their lies are."

Because he doesn't have anything better (see the posted reasons) to do than to placate "American Idiots."

Do you not understand metaphor? Clearly you don't understand that these people will never, ever be happy. They have nothing better to do than to form a 'movement' to 'prove' Obama isn't a citizen.

For my money, I would far rather our President devote his time to actually helping the country, instead of wasting it on people who have proven time again that no fact, presentation or discussion will alter their view.

why do you keep reading things into what i said,
i didnt say "placate them" / i didnt say "make them happy"
And only a brain dead zombie would insist that a 30 minute press conference would somehow equate to a disastrous distraction from all that is wrong in the world.

      Again with the 'brain dead.'

You seem very slow, so please let me clarify.

"Because he doesn't have anything better (see the posted reasons) to do than to placate "American Idiots."

Because the President of the United States has more important things to be concerned about than placate (make happy) "American Idiots" (People who think that, even though he has on several occasions addressed the Birthing issue, specifically during his campaign when he supplied a birth certificate, Obama should "[talk] shit about how stupid their lies are"

Let me make that even clearer. You are an "American Idiot" because you think that "a 30 minute press conference would somehow equate to" ANY semblance of legitimacy for a collection of people who, even though a birth certificate has already been made public, still think that he faked it.

Let me put it in terms you might comprehend.

Your son tells you that a little girl just stole his cookie. The little girl comes over and says, "I didn't steal his cookie, he ate it." Even though your son's face is covered in freakin Oreo debris, you refuse to believe her because clearly, she must be lying.

He has already spoken out on this issue several times. Given his busy schedule, you know, being the POTUS, 30 minutes actually equates to a lot in a day when you have many more difficult things to worry about than stage a stupid press conference for people who are too stupid to see or investigate facts.

Another example of similar futility is to sit here and try to speak to you as though I would a child so you can understand what's being said and when you're being made fun of.

let's try this yet again... i didn't say he should do this to convince or placate any right wingers, he should do this to show America he isn't a pussy.
That would be 30 mins well spent.

P.S. you suck at making fun of people, my feelings weren't hurt in the least.

You don't seem to understand how politics works.

Nothing will please the active morons- but we should not let them tell the passive morons what to think without a fight, because frankly, morons vote.

If he does nothing to increase his reputation, and allows morons to tell other morons who he is, then he may not get re-elected to a second term to get his work done.

I don't think you understand... He's already approached this subject multiple times. You can look it up on the Interwebs and everything.

It really doesn't matter what he does. Look at people like Congoboy.. granted, a useless bag of reiterative waste with no common sense, no ability or interest in looking things up for himself; but a prime example of the inability to see reason, conduct reasoned debate or discussion or to even pry his mouth off of the neo-conservative feeding tube.

How is Obama going to increase his reputation by stating the same thing over and over again? This is a non-issue. Why is something this stupid and pedantic more important to his reputation and credibility than, say, focusing his attention on trying to fix the economy? Or hosting previously stalled peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine?

You people may want a President like GWB who's all about hanging his balls in people's faces; sane people want a President who's above the petty bullshit and more focused on doing his job. Even if he were to, for the 8th time, stand up at a press conference holding up his birth certificate, it would still not be enough. People would still judge him as they saw fit, regardless of rhyme or reason. For most of the people who, after over a year now, STILL wet their pants in frustration over a birth certificate, there is zero chance of his regaining any semblance of credibility.

These people don't care. The only thing they care about is that the guy they voted for isn't in office. The only factor here that matters is that they're unhappy and, even though for 8 years of lies, deceit, loss of freedom, the worst attack on our soil in the history of our country, the relative destruction of our national and international economies, etc these people will ignore that amount of heinous bullshit, because obviously the worst thing that could happen with a President is for him to be a Democrat, a Black man, etc.

If you're more interested in seeing a President that's all about shaking his penis instead of working to fix the copious national problems, then I suggest moving to some place like North Korea, or Iran. Otherwise, wake up to the fact that the POTUS is not Paris Hilton, or some other entertainment figure who's trying to maintain their career because of a surfaced sex tape. The evidence is out there for anyone who actually wants to know the truth. There's really nothing more to be done.

      http://Current.com

That much is obvious from your previous posts. You crave validation in a forum where you can be as flagrant and uninformed as you could ever dream to be.

I'd like to point out that while I'm sure you're enjoying the piles of ire thrown at you on here, because after all, no truth can penetrate your shield of righteousness, you might want to consider the forum you've chosen.

Al Gore owns Current, and thusly Current.com.

Pay attention, all you folks out there who whine about Liberals and how they're all Muslim devils out to corrupt your grandmothers, every time you post here, every time you generate more traffic to this site, you are making money for Al Gore.

      That's right.

Right now, as you read this, and every time you post a reply about how heinous liberals are, just remember that you're paying one of them by being here.

Have you ever watched anything but Fox News?

Have you never heard of Mark Sanford, Dick Cheney, "Scooter" Libby, Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, etc etc..

Democrats can be just as corrupt as Republicans, but saying something like 'honest law abiding conservatives' is a fucking joke when referencing politics. You really do live in a cave.

Good luck with that. Didn't happen last November, likely won't this round either.

Even the conservatives can't keep it together. Your party is falling apart, between the Teabaggers, Neo-cons and revisionists, you're going to have a hard time finding unity.

"wouldnt think makin money for gore would be an issue with you."

That's right, you don't, or can't, think. You read the post and saw what you wanted to because you're enveloped in a world of factual inconsistencies, from which you spout rhetoric until someone comes back at you with facts, references and logic; you then turtle into "See you in november bitches". As with most people like you, you have an opinion, but you cannot back up those opinions with factual information.

The rest of us post links, cite sources and references to back up our arguments. You use name calling and 5th grade tactics of 'well fine I'll run away but you can't come to my birthday party.'

You consistently misunderstand or misinterpret what people say here, either by some defect of reasoning capability, or by willful ignorance.

"you vehemently believe in your opinion and in your heroes"

I believe in my opinion because I base it off of the research I do. I read each post and, before simply responding with 'WELL U R STUPID' like you tend to do, I read up on the topic before making a reply. When have you done this? Not once. You're a troll who, like many conservatives, believes that volume negates a need for fact. The louder you yell the more right you think you are. You, for one, never bother to read any of the posted material in responses. You never bring forth a logical argument based on fact; instead you literally repeat the exact same things that Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly tell you. You never bother to look for any fact or reason, especially when they are provided to you in a counter argument. For you, it's easier, as a staunch conservative, to stick your fingers in your ears and shout 'LALALALIBLIBLIB.'

I, for one, am Independant, neither conservative or liberal. I don't subscribe to any single party because, much like the founders of the country, I don't believe that people should be sucked into divisive partisan politics. No one side is completely right; but you don't want to see that. I look at what the politicians say and do a little reading for myself to see what, if anything, is true. You, on the other hand, watch Fox News because you don't want to have to think. It's easier to believe their rhetoric that, despite their claim of being the number one watched news channel on television (hint: those numbers are skewed due to the number of people from Huffington Post, MSNBC, Daily Show, Colbert report, etc that are constantly watching for material) is still somehow the single island of rebellion in a tide of misinformation. Neither party is infallible, as you seem to think. Politicians are, by their nature, telling people what they think they want to hear. That's how they get elected.

What counts is looking at the actual facts. Research and investigation, especially in the sea of information that is the Internet, is not that hard. You can do some thinking for yourself and, *gasp*! Truly be the patriotic rebel working against injustice.

What you do is to camp on a website run by one of your 'Lib' enemies, helping him to make more money even though you call him greedy, etc. That was my point, which you as you seem to do, missed.

At least I can maintain the logic and courage of my convictions by providing reasoned debate and discussion. You have to resort to "UR DUMB CAUSE UR JUST A LIB"

LOL you actually googled Obama accomplishments so they must be real.

Only liberals would make a website to try and prove that a dumbass has accomplished something.

And are you fucking kidding me? Signing a 1 trillion dollar stimulus that didnt do anything is an accomplishment. Naming a liberal to the supreme court is no accomplishment. Pretending to be transparent is not an accomplishment. Paying people a quarter more an hour is no accomplishment. Taking credit for Bush's withdrawl plan is not an accomplishment so where are all these accomplishments that you and your liberal buddies cream over?
