—Fidel Castro, accepting blame for labeling Cuban gays "counterrevolutionaries" and shipping many off to work camps, and insisting it is not the fault of the state's Communist Party at large while trying to explain why he let the discrimination take place

Don’t let this sociopath liar fool you, he has no regrets. We can say that Castro lies more than he speaks the truth. Castro’s persecution of gays didn’t stopped in the 1970s. The brutal treatment is given to LGTB members in Castrolandia, has continue up to nowadays.

A Caudillo's Own Story
http://reason.com/blog/2010/09/02/a-caudillos-own-storyMichael C. Moynihan | September 2, 2010
Via Washington Examiner columnist Mark Hemingway comes news that Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, who once denounced homosexual Cubans as “faggots” (maricones) who served the interests of imperialism, has “taken blame” for his revolution’s “excesses” against gay Cubans, which once included sending sexual counterrevolutionaries to prison camps. After offering a string of lame excuses—he was too busy thwarting American plots to stop sending his citizens to prison for being gay—Castro stopped short of actually apologizing.
As Hemingway notes, Castro’s persecution of gays (and black Cubans) hardly stopped in the 1970s, as this Reuters story suggests, with gay bars routinely shut down by the state security service and organizers of a 2008 gay pride march thrown in jail. But for this non-apology, designed to burnish his foul legacy, Foreign Policy magazine says that while Castro is "a bit late," he nevertheless "deserves plaudits.” No he doesn’t. Nor did Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet deserves plaudits for his 1999 letter “lamenting” (and not apologizing) those killed during his reign—which, incidentally, no one in the media was willing to grant. And rightly so.
Improper Conduct (Mauvaise Conduite), Néstor Almendro’s affecting film on the persecution of gays and anti-regime artists, is on Youtube in twelve parts.

The Ghost of Reinaldo Arenas
http://www.capitolhillcubans.com/2010/09/ghost-of-reinaldo-arenas.htmlSeptember 2, 2010
With news of a complaint being filed by a prominent gay rights group against Cuban dictator Fidel Castro at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, please watch the following short video segment of the documentary "Extravagant Beings."It highlights the life of Cuban poet and playwright Reinaldo Arenas, who famously stated:
"I'm a person here called dissident. In all senses because I'm not religious, I'm a homosexual and - at the same time - I'm anti-Castro. This means that I have all the conditions to never have a book published and to live at the margin of any society anywhere in the world."
Note the absolute disdain by Fidel Castro in his speech regarding Cuba's gay community.

Gays Take Castro to International Court
http://www.capitolhillcubans.com/2010/09/gays-take-castro-to-international-court...9:41 AM Thursday, September 2, 2010
The Brazilian gay rights NGO, Grupo Gay da Bahía (GGB), is filing a complaint at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague against Cuban dictator Fidel Castro for "crimes against humanity."
In this case, for crimes against Cuba's homosexual community.
According to the GGB, which is considered the oldest gay rights NGO in Latin America, Castro is responsible for the "demoralization, persecution, imprisonment in forced labor concentration camps, torture, banishment, and death of thousands of gays, transvestites and lesbians."
As part of its complaint, the GGB will hold a conference in Salvador da Bahia during March 2011 that will feature pictures and testimonies evidencing the Castro regime's homophobia.

Granma, the official daily organ of the Communist Party of Cuba, wrote this on the First National Congress on Education and Culture regarding Homosexuality:
“An in-depth analysis was made of the preventive and educational measures that are to be put into effect against existing locusts, including the control and relocation of isolated cases and degrees of deterioration . . . it was resolved that for notorious homosexuals to have influence in the formation of our youth is not to be tolerated on the basis of “artistic merits” . . . homosexuals should not have any direct influence on our youth through artistic and cultural activities. It was resolved that those whose morals do not correspond to the prestige of our revolution should be barred from any group of performers representing our country abroad. Finally it was agreed to demand severe penalties be applied to those who corrupt the morals of minors, depraved repeat offenders and irredeemable antisocial elements.”
If the government can criminalize homosexuality, this implies the authority to criminalize anything. You don’t need to be homosexual to appreciate the ominous implications.

Samuel Farber said, “The present Cuban government… has done more to promote homophobia than any regime in the country’s history.”
After 51 years LGTB members remains under attack in Castrolandia. Article 303 of the Cuban Penal Code threatens “publicly manifested” homosexuality with a year’s imprisonment. Homosexual Cubans can be imprisoned for something as innocuous as holding hands.
The Cuba Communist Party, the only one legalized political party in Dr. Castro island paradise doesn’t allow homosexuals in its ranks.

Taking responsibility is very easy when you know that you are immune to punishment. He has nothing to fear in Cuba. It would have been braver for him to have taken responsibility for it in front of an international Human Rights Court... then we'd truly be able to say he took responsibility for what he did.

He is admitting something that millions of Cubans already know. We all know who is behind the repression of all the people on the island. The fact that he accepted blame will never bring back the lives of the thousands of gays who were killed and who had years of their lives taken from them in concentration camps.

Castro made this statement because he just wanted attention. The worst thing is that he just admitted for the deaths of thousands of Cuban gays... and yet he will never be held accountable. He will continue to live his life of luxury.

He may be a raving bastard, but at least he is openly admitting that it was him and him alone who did these terrible things.
