the palastinian authority have been in a civil war with hamas over leadership since arafat died.i think it bares mentioning when talking about the palastinian authority arresting hamasniks, especially when they hold the same policies in regards to israel.

my focus is on american media.im sure al jazeera will exploit the shit out of it, from being fed by cnn.im also sure the bbc will cover it as the bbc for all its flaws makes our news look like preschool.

i would love to start a legit news network, but alas i know im a biased reactionary who doesnt honor the journalistic principles, just like fox and msnbc.i know im not the guy for the job, but damn it we used to have people who did this.

im a stickler for this particular thing cuz i remember growing up in the 90's and watching the news (wich wasnt as bad then but still a far cry from woodward and bernstien) as they discussed oj simpson and monica lewimski to obscene degrees while the banner scroll told of terror attacks in africa and israel.it always bothered me that the tabloid stuff with sex appeal was accepted as news rather than loss of human life, regardless of where those lives were.monica wasnt gunna unblow the pres, oj wasnt gunna unmurder his ex-wife so why all the evaluation, nothing is going to change, ie nothing NEWs.

what made it even worse was when we would get hit, say the first wtc attack in the 90's for a short spell terrorism dominated the news, but of course would give way to the next sex scandal like anita hill.

would we have been so shocked on 9-11 if our news evaluated the bombings of our embassy's in africa at the level the evaluated the first blow job?may be as a collective we would have been prepared for it to a defensive degree against it had we been noticing that our people across the middle east and africa were being attacked increasingly.

in the end we ignore the little unpleasantness like tel aviv sbarro suicide bombers and qassam rocket attacks so it doesnt exist in our collective view so when israel does some shit it plays like military tyrany.

lol, I would definitely love to start a legit news network with both you and musicjohnny, only I would have to be careful about my choice of words. But I completely agree with you two. Our news media, especially Fox, is all a bunch of right wing bullshit and lies mixed with unimportant stories that seem like 'news' when they're really just advertisements. What we need is more alternative news media that will cover all of the IMPORTANT news stories and not just selected ones that aren't that important. We need to be able to see both sides of the story, not just the right wing view. You can't rely on one news source anymore with Fox reporting one thing and msnbc reporting another and newspapers reporting something else. We need to think more critically when it comes to the news and actually do the research. Instead of just saying, "Oh, that must be true. It's on Fox news so that has to be the truth. The news never lies." we need to look up that story and see if that really is all the truth or if Fox conveniently 'forgot' to talk about some of the important things along with it, taking those out because they want to make their right wing corporate sponsors happy. Sorry about the rant, I just had to speak out. I would have never known about the lies and bullshit of Fox and other known news channels if it weren't for my Sociology class and teacher. Thank you, Sociology!

rant away.i think this is going to be a cultural element that will encapsulate an era.maybe it was the weed talking but i was watching the daily show and it occured to me that my parents watch msnbc, and geriatrics are the main demographic of fox, while our youth (our cultural inheriters) are growing up based on the higher standards of the daily show.although it is comedy in nature, stewarts reverence for truth exceeds contemperary news, so it is concievable one day in the future if the youth of today dont lose thier resolve in terms of truth as they take the helm of our country he will be reveared as a media pioneer worthy of adulation.
just as the 80's had a theme of excessiveness
and the 90's were an era of intillectualism via artistic endevours
the millenium i think will be seen as the period in wich journalism was abandoned, and we went the way of tabloid specticle.

im honored, but my news network would just be me attacking those i dont like lol, like masnbc and fox.although i gotta say at least msnbc has the common courtesy to be upfront with its bullshit as tagging itself as "the place for politics" unlike fox calling itself "news".the "fair and balanced" part is just insult to injury.

lol, that's okay. My news network would be just me attacking all the close-minded ignorant Republican right wing people who refuse to have tolerance towards others who aren't exactly like them. I don't watch the Daily Show at all, though now I think that I will after hearing you. Yeah, the news is nothing but a bunch of fake news, hidden advertisements, right wing views, and celebrities. I get my news from Current and from online. We need more news channels like Current that will tell the truth and give us real news, not the fake lies that they call 'news'. But until more people start to realize that they need to analyze the news media and question what the news call 'truth', then we are all fucking screwed.

lol, that is hilarious and so TRUE!! Now I definitely will watch the Daily Show more often. I'll make sure to check out the colbert report too. But yeah, all news does have bias. I really am hoping that our generation doesn't follow past generations. My parents are definitely from the generation X with all their apathy and conservatism. I never want to and NEVER will end up becoming like them. The only problem is that those generation x parents are teaching their kids, our generation to think and act like them, resulting in some of our generation becoming like the one before. My parents are already teaching that into my little brother, but I obviously rejected those teachings. I just hope that we will eventually get better over the years and go forward instead of backwards.
