Sleepwalking, one of the sleep disorders known as parasomnias, can occur in up to 10% of the population. According to Rafael Palayo, a sleep expert at the Stanford Clinic, sleepwalkers are not technically asleep. They are in a state of “dissociated arousal” that occurs within the sleep cycle.
