"She was my angel. I cannot believe my baby is gone," the devastated mother, Carmen Ojeda, said of daughter Briana.
The NYPD is trying to determine whether the man was a cop, auxiliary officer, traffic agent or private security guard.
The tragedy happened after Briana suffered an asthma attack at 5:15 p.m. Friday at a playground in Carroll Gardens.
"We have all the equipment in the car but nothing was working. Her eyes started to get really, really big," Briana's heartbroken dad, Michael, told The Post.
Carmen Ojeda called 911 but couldn't wait for the ambulance and took off in her car.
To break free from heavy traffic, Ojeda turned the wrong way on a one-way street, and hit a parked car.
She then flagged down a marked car and the uniformed man got out and screamed, "What the f - - k are you doing going down the wrong way?" Michael said.
"My wife screamed at him, 'Help! My daughter needs CPR.' "
The man "smirked" and responded, "I don't do CPR," Michael said.
The mom said she pleaded to be allowed to continue to Long Island College Hospital while the girl was "still breathing," but he tried to box her in.
Good Samaritan Scott Voloshin, who performed CPR on Briana on the way to the hospital, told WABC/Channel 7 he's certain the man was an NYPD officer.
Whoever stopped Ojeda eventually followed her to the hospital. After a doctor broke the news that Briana had died, the "officer" ripped up a ticket he had been trying to give Carmen, Michael said.
A source said every cop in the local precinct was interviewed and none was at the scene.
Briana, who was set to enter the sixth grade at St. Francis Xavier School, wanted to be lawyer and would donate her allowance money to help animals, her mom said.

Must not have been in New York City and you must not have been going down a one way street and hit another car.

To save anothers life even at risk to your own isnt noble or honroable it simple is something that must be done. Least thats how I see it. I havent heard of anything other than cpr as an alternative to cpr but medical science is always coming up with something new.

Ever see Transformers1? Did you see what it said on the side of that Decepticon Police car?
Instead of "Protect and Serve" it said "Punish and Destroy" or something like that. - 1 year ago

I was commenting on the skill. You never really hope you ever have to use a skill like that but it is good to know. I also think that when another life is in danger that if one has any sensibilities at all they would act. However if you act without training you could die too.

Stop making excuses....you don't know what exactly happened...you weren't there.
When someone is trying desperately to save the life their child...nothing can stand in the way of that. You obviously don't have kids or you wouldn't be saying the things you are....you would be expressing compassion instead of trying to start an argument.
Shame on you for being a turd instead of helping the situation.

will you PLEASE stop defending this cop? It's just nauseating and no one agrees with you anyway. If he can't handle the idiots that everyone knows go with the job, then he needs to turn in the badge, that simple and that hard.

I think what you don't realize, is that the situation with police brutality in this country has gotten out of control since 911 and the Patriot Act. Most of us in the US can still remember a time when cops rarely said things like "don't resist me" or "don't fight me" There was a certain amount of diplomacy that went along with the job. I remember driving the wrong way down a one-way street once, and the cop who pulled me over was the town Sheriff, he was so nice about it, and I really felt like he wanted to protect me. Too many cops out there now who are just plain mean spirited and foul to the core.

We don't know all the facts. The little girl may be suffering from some sort of complication. There may not have not been anything anyone could do out side a hospital or without an Ambulance.
New York is a tough place for ambulance drivers.
Well they can always make another baby or adopt. - 1 year ago

Wow what a heartless response. You cant replace a child, a human being by adopting or having another child. Their daughter was 11 years old and now shes gone.

Because normal human being have these things called emotions. You can never replace a person like you could a pet goldfish. She was a living thinking feeling person with dreams and a bright future... and she died needlessly.

Yes every child and every person on this planet is an individual and unique in someway. Our emotions dictate that there must be a period of mourning when faced with the loss of a family member but pain passes and changes with time. The loss of one may be the blessings of another.
As I stated in a previous post that we do not have all the facts so why are we judging people.
The child in question may have had some sort of complication. The parents had "all the equipment" which I take to be at least an inhaler, as stated in the article, so if normal Asthma certified drugs and equipment failed to work what makes anyone think CPR would help much?I guess an action here is better than no action. I don't think this lady helped any by panicking and trying to get her child to the hospital in non emergency vehicle. I guess what I am trying to say is that we cannot pass judgment on people when we don't have enough information.
Everything that begins ends and we can never say when a life will end nor will we be prepared to deal with death of a family member when it happens but it will happen.

I think if the parents are charging the NYPD with negligence, then I have to ask, are the parents seeking payment for the lose of their child? Blood money? That doesn't seem to loving either. Nothing brings the dead back. They need to mourn their lose forgive those they need to forgive and move on.

so ur sayin..if ur daughter "the lifegaurd" died for a reason of which someone who had the power of medical knowledge n needed medical attention and she happened to pass while u where pleading with him to provide the medical attention that she needed to may make a difference, u would eventually get over ur daughters death?! ur pain would "pass and change with time"? u would forget ur daughter? live ur life like nothing happen?
i doubt that there would b a lawsuit if the man acted just as concerned as the parent and attempted to provide the medical attention that was asked of him that he obviously holds the knowledge of considering his position.
dont b an idiot.

I am not judging people. I agree that we likely do not have all the facts hence i did not mention the police officer whatsoever. I only remarked about your cold-hearted response to their tragedy. I never knew the person and i dont personally feel grief however i can relate to the feelings of the parent... anyone who has lost a loved one before can.

My older son has asthma, and when he was a child, we had to get him emergency treatment several times in order to save his life. I know the panic this woman felt, but I can only imagine the misery she's experiencing now. Millions of kids suffer from this horrible condition, and we need to clean up our air.
