Ann Coulter: Obama Is Atheist, Not Muslim

Image
TimALoftis
Nearly one in five Americans think President Obama is a Muslim, according to a recent poll -- but conservative commentator Ann Coulter says instead that he is an atheist.

"The nonsense about President Obama being a Muslim has got to stop," Coulter wrote on the conservative website TownHall.com. "I rise to defend him from this absurd accusation by pointing out that he is obviously an atheist."

Coulter, known for her brash, often humor-tinged commentary, wrote that the "only evidence for Obama's Christianity is that he faithfully attended the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ for 20 years."

While 20 years of attendance at a church may seem like good evidence, Coulter ruthlessly slams Wright, reducing his sermons to "hate-filled demagoguery."

Coulter makes the case that questioning a public person's religion should not be out of bounds, pointing to Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, televangelists who were disgraced in a series of sex and money scandals, as examples of people practicing false Christianity.

"No sentient human is required to take Obama's profession of Christianity any more seriously than if it were coming from a 1980s blow-dried, money-grubbing televangelist with a mistress on the side," she wrote.

After making her case about the president, Coulter declares, "All liberals are atheists... There's only one true Christian liberal in the country and that's Mike Huckabee."

    • If you've noticed, that admitted non-believers generally do not get voted into higher offices. Generally. There are a few, but most will say they believe in something.

    • So, I guess I'll say it again: What does a person's religion have to do with their moral character?

I'm getting rather tired of Christians claiming to have some sort of moral high-ground. Maybe I'm nuts but I judge a person on actions, not beliefs.

Is it just be or is Ms. Coulter starting to look like "Crazy Mary" from the Blair Witch Project?

    • Ann Coulter is suffering from what so many right wing radical t.v/print/internet personalities are dying from. No one gives a shit what they have to say. The only time they get any attention is when they sprout off some bullsh@t like Mrs. (I need a hamburger) Coulter is trying with this latest attack on President Obama's religion. Who gives a fcuk, just do a go job keeping this train wreck of a country on the rails for a few more years. That's most you can expect from your President.
That being said Rev. Wright is a fcuking idiot and hate monger, but who cares. More then half the country is secretly racist in one form or another. I'm Irish Catholic and I hate the Pope.

    • Why should it matter what faith a president or a state leader has, as long as he/she doesn't mix his/her faith with politics?

It's the mix of Politics and Religion one should be afraid of, not wether or not a stateleader is religious or not..

    • First, Dick Cheney was an admitted atheist, and not one single conservative, religious or otherwise, seemed capable of giving a rats gilded ass.

Second, it appears that FOX opinion givers don't really care what Obama's religion is, so long as they can get the chance to make it seem like he's of some religious faith, or lack there of, which paints him as a legitimate baby eating threat to the "real" Americans.

His religion is a perversion of Christianity (Black Liberation theology) it puts people into two camps, the oppressed and the oppressors. The only way that the oppressors can be saved is if they give back what they took.

This is common sense, so obviously it needs to be explained to you.

There are hundreds of Christian denominations, beveling unrelated, diverse, and bizarre things: There are the peaceful Quakers and the violent Christian Identity Movement, the isolationist Amish and Mennonites, and the expansionist Catholics, The Metropolitan Community Church that embraces Diversity, and the Westborough Baptist Church, that hates everyone. Not to mention the Shakers, the Snake handlers, the Pentecostals speaking in tongues, on and on and on ...

      - yet every single one claims to be Christian, and every single one bases their beliefs on the Bible.

If the Bible explained itself very well, there would only be one Church.

The simple fact that there are so many diverse interpretation of that book shows that the book is bizarrely open to interpretation and does NOT "explain itself very well".

If you want to claim that "Black Liberation theology" is a perversion, then they are ALL perversions.

And since that book is so vague, and so contradictory, and says things that we know to be false- it is obvious, to anyone who has bothered to read it and look at it objectively, that it is not the product of a divine perfect being.

    • UtopianSky:

I think you and Joy are missing the point, sure there are many denominations within christianity but the only differences between them are ritualistic and they mostly stick to the main biblical principles. Black Liberation Theology on the other hand, takes a huge departure from mainstream christianity, proclaiming that Jesus was a black man that was lynched by white people. Its just like Nazism when they sought religious justification to kill the Jews, Jesus was killed by Jews therefore, kill all the Jews.

What it really comes down to is Individual rights vs. Collective rights.

    • ibrake4rappers13:

      Have you ever studied Christianity?
      I have.
No, the differences are NOT ritualistic- they go to the core beliefs, including salvation, afterlife, and the nature of God.

Some believe salvation is entirely through faith in Christ.
Others say salvation is through good works.
Others say one can only be saved with both faith and works.
Others believe in "Universal Salvation"- that means everyone on Earth is saved because of Christ's sacrifice, and it does not mater what religion they are or what they do.
Others believe there are a small number of people who's salvation is predestined, and nothing will change that.

Some believe in a Heaven and a Hell.
Some believe in Heaven, and no Hell.
Some believe in neither; that the saved will rise from the dead on Judgment day, and experience paradise on earth, and simply wait in their graves untill then.

Some believe God is three distinct beings: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Others say they are three aspects, or facets, of one being.
Others say there is only ONE God- Jesus was a temporary manifestation of God, not a distinct aspect.
Some believe that each planet has it's own God, and our God is simply the God of this world.

Again, you completely miss the point- Christianity is FAR more diverse than you realize. To the core, Christian beliefs vary widely, yet every single one claims to be Christian, and every single one bases their beliefs on the Bible.

AND, the only reason you even HEARD about "Black Liberation Theology" is because the right-wing pundits told you about it, and ALL you know about it is what they said.

Plus, your belief that it is somehow Obama's faith- again- is based on the words of right-wing pundits.

No, it does NOT go down to individual rights vs collective rights.

It goes down to ignorance vs knowledge.

Don't make me angry. You won't like me when I am angry. :*
Sweetie, we are not missing the point. You are under the impression that any Christianity is actually created by God. As far as I am concerned, any cult (and make no mistake, all religion is a cult) that promotes narrow mindedness is dangerous. When the rules defy reason and the mythology is easily dismissed by science and yet people willingly allow themselves to be governed by a cult in spite of all the evidence that much of the belief system is flawed, this makes for a very ignorant population.

I am not saying there is no God. I am not really in a position to say that because there are many things that I do not know. I am skeptical, but I do not absolutely rule it out. I do rule out any organized religion's version of God. Again, all religion is an invention of people in power to keep the masses under control. The sad part is that it stagnates intellectual growth, puts artificial barriers between people and makes for constant turmoil in the world.

My next question is how does this guy ever find time to be President?

    • Most of us, if we truly understood what it meant, would call ourselves....

AGNOSTICS, meaning we believe in something, but we just don't put a religious tag on it.

      ag·nos·tic   [ag-nos-tik]
      –noun
      1.
a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as god, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
      2.
a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study.

    • Who cares? First off true Christians should know that God's number one rule is don't judge people--that's His job. Second Christian does not equal psychic or telepath or Betazed so Anne or anybody else for that matter can't read President Obama's mind and know what he believes, or does not believe. Third the very first commandment of the Big 10 commandments is don't play God so here again Anne and her fellow hypocrites completely miss the irony.

But mostly Anne obviously missed the point that EVERY one of the televangelists she called out as fake--got taken down a notch because they claimed to have the absolute definition of what it meant to be a holier than thou Christian and another person or group of people came along and proved to them that no they were just humans like everybody else and arrogant assholes to boot.

    • "There's only one true Christian liberal in the country and that's Mike Huckabee."

Actually, all true Christians are Liberals. Read the beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount, they espouse pure liberal values. After the resurrection, the apostles and early church lived in what were basically communes, practicing extreme socialism.

Conservative Christians are descendants of Roman paganism, not Christianity.

Youd get socked in the face. If your going to analyze someone, do it at the end result of it all. Its been a year in a half.. If the economy is better than it was 10 years ago when Obama is done. Than he already did a better job than Bush. Hell... one in five Americans can do better.
