Poll: 71 Percent Of Americans Still Blame Bush For The Current Economic Woes

The 71% saying Bush should get blamed was a modest decline from the 80% who felt that way about a year ago, in July 2009. [...]
In the July 2009 poll, a third, 32%, said [Obama] should shoulder a great deal or moderate amount of the blame. That percentage has risen — no surprise, given that he’s been in office for 20 months. Now almost half, 48%, do. But 51% say he’s dealing with problems he inherited, not created, saying he deserves not much or none of the responsibility for economic problems that include high unemployment and a faltering housing market.
There was, predictably, a yawning partisan divide on the question. Republicans by 4-1, 44%-10%, were more likely to give Obama a great deal of the blame than Bush. Democrats by more than 20-1 targeted Bush: They said the former president bore a great deal of the blame; just 3% said that of the current one.
Indeed, as much as Bush advisers try to resurrect the legacy of their former boss, other polls have shown Americans really don’t miss Bush, while a recent survey of 238 presidential scholars rated Bush as the worst president of the modern era and among the bottom five of all time.

When it is stated that "We want our Country back," the rest of us are left to ask: Back from what? I have looked many times and I haven't been able to find any evidence that our Nation has gone anywhere or that anyone has taken it. Apparently, they want to take it back from the "Black Man," because other than that difference, everything else is the same as so many other times before. Our Nation has had Democrats running the place before and the Republicans never cried "we want our Country back" so why this new outcry? Is it Barack HUSSEIN Obama, could it be he was born in Hawaii, or what?
The darker color of someone's skin in America has always in-sighted certain people or groups to get really ugly and up in arms. This is no different other than many of the Nation have matured and evolved making this event of a "Black Man" to even be in the White House possible. Plain and simple!

The first thing most new presidents seem to do is pick up the pieces left over from the previous administration. Unfortunately the pieces left behind from the Bush era will be biting the American people in the ass for years to come. It will take forever to climb out all our debt. Just think how long it takes an ordinary person to pay down 10k on a credit card. I have been trying to climb out of debt of over 10years Politicians get elected on no taxation or spending platforms until the end of their term and then they run up the bill before they leave office.

It is a money and power thing. They attack anything and everything that jeopardizes the rich's monopoly on freedom. Race just happens to an easy effigy to attack. Unfortunately it's easier to attack "others", people with which we do not identify ourselves, and therefore the right's crusade against the poor take the form of racism. Race is definitely a factor in and of itself, but it is more about class than race.

Money and class is always an issue with the wealthy. History is loaded with evidence of that in every location around the world. No exemptions. However, America's history has a rich, historical reservoir of race issues. Racism is not dead by any means but it has been diminished by a fair amount compared to even thirty years ago. It still rears it's ugly face from time to time and it seems that it is attempting to do so in this case as well. There is much evidence to suggest and support it along with money, power and class.

Actually, I think Obama saved us from going to war with Iran and Pakistan. In our present status or condition, I hardly think we could have managed it as a nation.
If McCain and Palin had won, we would have most likely gone to war with one or both of them. America would have had to reinstate the Draft with a mandatory enlistment. Many of our young men would have been called into duty. There would have been no other way to have supported two more occupations. Financially, we as a nation would have been more devastated than we already are.
Republicans have a tendency to be war mongers and McCain and Palin eluded to their inclinations during their run for the White House.

Take a class in statistics, polls will never mean anything again. Aside from that, Mr Obama has disappointed me greatly. He wants to be well liked by everyone AND effective. Not in this economy pal. Far from blaming Bush, he bends over (unfortunate choice of words there) backwards to make nice. Heck, Obama's practically a Republican. He's expanded most of Bush's policies. Rove is just making waves.
p.s. If you want to blame, go back to the dismantling of the banking industry regulation. It really got going under Carter and has continued w/ every president since. Also, 30+ yrs of outrageous unchecked greed didn't help, and the foxes are still guarding the hen house.

Do we want to talk about the economic problem Bush inherited from Clinton in the tech stock meltdown? I didn't hear Bush whining about that. Obama owns this economy. This fool has taken responsibility for nothing since he has been in office. All he has done is to exacerbate the problem and blame it elsewhere. It is easy to blame your own ineptitude on others. Obama said that the first "stimulus" would prevent the unemployment from going past 8%. Biden said this would be the summer of recovery. The majority don't want Obama brand healthcare reform and think this country is on the wrong track. The wrong track means we are going in the wrong direction. Obama is steering the boat that is on the wrong track unless he is trying to convince us that Bush is still at the helm. 71% proves only that 71% are lemmings who eat the lies with a spoon. Obama is in WAY over his head. His inexperience is showing. He was the wrong man for the job and will/is making the economic problems worse. The government started this problem with the housing collapse that will probably take a decade to recover from. Now the government wants us to believe that it can rectify the problem. We are the fools for letting this happen.

The economic "problems" Bush inherited from Clinton left Bush with a 200 billion dollar budget surplus generated by one of the longest runs of economic expansion in the history of the United States. By the time Bush left office, we were stuck in two wars, an economy on the razor edge of depression and a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit. Get it? Clinton =200 billion dollar surplus and no wars. Bush=1.3 trillion dollar deficit and 2 wars. I can't dumb it down any more than that.
He's are more facts about what Bush did to the economy:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/jan/29/barack-obama/obam...
and:
"The bulk of the $1.42 trillion deficit has nothing to do with the Obama administration's policies. The Center for American Progress' Michael Ettlinger and Michael Linden recently explained, "The policies of the Bush administration, which included tax cuts during a time of war and a floundering economy, are clearly the primary source of the current deficits." Specifically, 40% of the fiscal deterioration we're seeing -- the single largest contributing factor -- can be attributed to Bush policies. Another 12% comes from Bush's financial rescues, while 20% are the result of the economic crisis Bush handed off to his successor. What's President Obama's share? Just 16% of the total, most of which is the result of new spending that was necessary to prevent a depression."
Please also note that the Obama Administration spent 16% to AVOID A DEPRESSION.
Also, since your a conservative I have to assume that you've forgotten that the Republican bailout happened in September 2008 during Bush's Administration. Or have you forgotten Bush's Treasury Secretary (Hank Paulson) request for 700 Billion tax dollars to bail the idiot bankers out? As much as that bailout appalled me it was the only thing that Bush did that I agreed with given the economic conditions his Administration allowed to develop.
So once again Paratus all you've proven that you're still refusing to remove your head from your colon. I almost feel sorry for you.

Ditto,
I am on the line that is annoyed with Obama for giving so much away to the idiots who drove us to bankruptcy. But what you really need is a system that allows more ideas into the political arena, The Republicans have learned to game the two party system and it is finally time to shelve it and move on to a multi-party democracy like the US imposed on Germany after WWII . If we thought it was good enough for them it probably would be even better for us. It allows the wing nuts to voice their ideas and gives a pathway to pick up the few innovative good ideas they do have. The two party system sucks because the Republicans have decided to take their ball and go home.

Obama's biggest downfall was when he decided to shoot for bi-partisanship and cling to that unattainable facade. The Republican party (the party of NO) would rather sell their souls or their grandmothers than to give into anything that Obama does or has tried to do. This is all at the expense of the American people.
Obama tried to do it right but that was not to be had. He should of realized this and taken control earlier on and shoved things down the God Owful Parties throats while he had the chance. Come November, I fear much will change and the descent of the American way and dream will soon follow. The Republicans will finish what they started under the last administration.

They need to dismiss all of them and start completely over. The voting system needs to be revised to one person, one vote and it needs to no longer be a secret ballot. Transparency would help to eliminate the ability of defrauding the voter by those running the software and or hardware. As dreamy as this would be, the safety of many voters would most likely be at risk. Thus the secret ballot will most likely stay in place and defrauding will always be our plight.

Remember the day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:At the time:

The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!
Remember the day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee. The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?
BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!!!THANK YOU DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!
(BTW: Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was "Financially risky for the US economy"):

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie???

Yes, most conservatives have blocked that fact out of their head that the big bailout happened in September 2008 when the housing market crashed and people started pulling billions out of their 401Ks. That's when Hank Paulson ran to Bush begging for 700 billion in tax payer dollars to bail out the financial system.
I have to laugh because if the situation had been reversed and a Bush had left Clinton with a 200 billion dollar surplus and Clinton left us with at 1.4 Trillion dollar deficit and 2 wars the facts would be burned into the brains of every conservative greater than 5 years old.

Really? No kidding. Let me fill out the gaps in your comment. When Bush realized that his hands off approach to the economy had destroyed it, he told Paulson to scurry to congress to get the money. Congress had a choice, 1) don't fund the bank bailout and watch America and then the world fall into an economic depression. 2) piss off the American voters, fund the bailout and pray it was enough to stave off another economic depression. So if you would like to credit Nancy Pelosi for staving off a global economic disaster, well, who am I to argue. The fact is however both parties were involved in making the right decision. However, the Bush Administration retains the sole responsibility for the collapse due to their unwillingness to enforce existing regulations. The after effects, as painful as they are would be far more painful if the bailout hadn't passed. And you know what, people like you would have blamed her and Obama for that too.
Conservatives have zero credibility when it comes to the economy unless they're implementing a plan to wreck it. What's really ironic is that those same conservatives are burning you too, but you just aren't smart enough to see it. Bummer being you.

Perhaps YOU are not familiar with politics. It was not a super majority in any sense of the word. It wasn't even a working majority especially when you consider the Blue Dog Democrats who are GOP lite. Get your facts straight.

Then can try to rewrite history all they want. But in the age of the internet their lies are immediately identified and flagged for all Americans to see.

I don't think Karl Rove is a credible representative for who is to blame. 'Rove-ian' politics, is the logic they used to spin Americans into ignoring the reality of the day. Every day some new facts came out and with the help of 'Rove-ian' spin, everyone just moved along to the next news cycle. Nothing to see here, move along.
Now, Karl Rove is once again directing Americans, as to who is and who is not to blame? Karl Rove is not an innocent bystander! There's dirt on his hands! Karl Rove was an active participant in outing a 'Covert CIA Agent' and now he get's to spin our future. I don't think so!
Who is to blame for our economy? Don't ask him. He wouldn't be honest, even if he knew. I think under oath, he wouldn't know anything. Maybe Congress can find a reason to get him under oath. I wouldn't trust a thing that comes out of his mouth, unless he was under oath. The truth and nothing but the truth!

The have a disease known in the medical community as "denius all responsibilitus". It's a parasite that develops in conservative brains after listening to too much FOX "News". It's growth rate is doubled by listening to Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity.

I only blame bush as a enabler of what happened to the economy mostly because of his willful blindness and complete lack of effort to do his job. Throw in Phil Gramm legislation and Clinton for signing it and everything else can go right on the doorstep of Wall Street and its bankers.
