    • his hands were up, he was obviously surrendering... there was ZERO need for the tazer, and ZERO need for the punches. too bad that cop will never be held accountable for this.

    • Yeeep. Read up on your rights and laws, kiddos. This right here is 100% brutality and excessive force. Looks like it was from a pretty nasty chase that upset those poor, hard-working police officers, so they decided to take it out on the suspect.

Oh wait. That's illegal. That's REALLY illegal. He surrendered himself, seems to have followed their commands, and was promptly shoved to the ground, dragged into a clear area, and punched in the head, hard, several times. Murder? Arson? Theft? Illegal immigrant? Doesn't matter. This guy had rights, even as a (not yet convicted!) criminal, and they were very obviously tossed aside because po-po got angry that he had to chase the kid down.

It's your fucking job. Get over it, cop. In a fair world, the officers would be arrested for assault and battery, compliance with assault/battery (I forget what that's called), and be suspended or completely kicked off of the force. Jail time would also be good.

    • Here's a rhetorical question: How many folks here have had some kind of run in with the cops like the one in the video, and of those folks how many were completely innocent?

I just find it interesting that a lot of people automatically assume that all cops are evil and anyone they arrest is innocent. Now I'm not saying that there aren't corrupt cops, but not ALL of them, just like not all people who get arrested are guilty of anything.

I have to agree Aristaeus that with out all the facts you can't have an informed opinion. Maybe the cops were beating that dude just for the fun of. It happens. Maybe that dude did something truly appalling and this chase started after a shootout with the police. That also happens.

Now would I want those great big cops punching me and kneeling on my neck?
No. That's why I don't break the law, and that's gotten me by pretty well.

Can any one here say for sure why they were chasing him?
      I can't.

Until I know all the facts that are not evident in the video, the only conclusion I can come to is that the one cop punched the guy in the head and the other one subsequently knelt on his neck until he was hand cuffed, and then for the next 1:20 or so not much happens.

Just remember that bit about what happens when you assume.

No run-ins with cops, but I can see what is clearly in front of my face. Do you just assume cops are required to video so that they can supply fodder for Fox news viewers, or do you suppose maybe there is a reason why cops are now required to video their activity?

Most people making comments on this site are not assuming anything about ALL cops. They are commenting on the behavior of these specific cops in this video, not sure how you missed that.

I agree with you that we need more facts to properly judge the situation. However, the guy stepped out of the car and threw up his hands. THAT'S IT. Game over. Police 1; Random criminal 0. So riddle me this, Why was it necessary to beat the shit out of this guy? Some shirtless douche-bag who probly stole the car and annoyed the cops on a bad day. Shit like this really makes me detest cops. But I know they're not all bad.

Dortha I think you have contributed enough cynicism for one day. You make excuses for a dictatorial regime in Cuba in one article and show absolutely no respect for any police officers in another.

I didn't want to, but I will have to present you with the Cynic of the Day badge. There weren't many others who came close to be honest. Congratulations.

    • According to a friend of mine who has a husband that works at the local area county cops station said to watch it slower. There are few things that she pointed out--There should have been audio-we cant hear what is being said and the SBPD does have audio on all their videos; secondly that he stopped before the car and they had the option to taser him or to use a Force Continuim so they used force----Now I dont personally agree with the punching when he was down but we dont know what was being said--but the violence stopped after he was in cuffs---So without sound I cant fully be sure who is at fault here but am glad to just share another opinion.

Haha yeah the violence stopped after he was in cuffs.

But the could have skipped the "beating while on the ground part" and put him in cuffs.
They drag it out because they know they can do whatever before they put the cuffs on and claim he was resisting.

I am Hispanic La Dip-O. You’re in American now, speak English. Or are you a Reconquista that happens to conveniently forget the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo?
And no, I do not want to speak Spanish. I prefer a language more akin to science and intellectual conversation so necessary to the governance of a country. Gives one a clue about that bastion of social justice and democracy that is Mexico.
Speaking of which! ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! Even IF this guy was a drug dealer, IF I say because he could be an Accounting Student at NYU as far as you know, the cops have no right to beat his ass when they had him. IT’S CALLED “REASONABLE FORCE,” it’s the law, look it up.
If you are Hispanic, you should be concerned about racial profiling and racially motivated police brutality. And just because Drug Cartels kill Americans, does not mean we have to give up our civil rights and protections under law against cruel and unusual punishment. Jeez!
What bothers me is that the cops know the dash camera is on, yet they do not give a damn. That can either mean they are stupid, or they know their superiors will conveniently lose the video. They probably assumed both.

I agree with you ezrierin, most of the cops are not bad. This stuff just makes me so mad when I see it. I understand where Ihatethemall is coming from too. There is something inside of me that is waiting to see the video of the bad cop getting his ass beat by a crowd that instead of standing back and watching the brutality, says NO, that's enough. Accountability is so lacking when police do this sort of thing, they won't police themselves, and the courts won't play fair, so who is going to defend the defenseless?

yeah, because God knows we can't figure out it was excessive force...even though the guy got out of his car with his hands up, and at no point do we SEE him behave aggressively, although the fat ass pork chop of a cop made sure he threw him on the ground, immediately, and then proceeded to take his frustrations out on another human being. But how can we react strongly to that?

Let’s say the guy was a drug dealing multi state murderer with a body in his trunk. Brutality does not make that crap better; it only adds insult to injury and reduces all our civil rights and gives a black eye to our brave women and men in blue.

      values? really?

it's must have been the same thing when I was hit by a cop when i was 15, while hanging out in front of my parents place??.... just standing there with friends and i guess i was breaking the law? they punched me and beat my other friends just because they were looking for someone and got us instead... but again, i guess i was breaking the law and needed to get hit with a rod, for standing in front of my place? so i can learn some values? hahahahahaha...

Oh and just to make things clear... i don't have a record, i make really good money and deal with business people all around the world... but i guess that's because i was a spoiled kid? or because i needed to get hit by cops for no reason??
