part of me agrees with you, this sort of thing has been going on in Iran, and Saudi Arabia, our good friends (cough, cough) for a long time. The US government/media has had little to no interest in addressing this barbaric treatment of women, and now that there is an initiative underway to promote a military intervention in Iran, we all of a sudden hear about what has been an ongoing victimization of women in this and other Islamic nations.

I object nonetheless, on the grounds that this is a barbaric practice, and as long as it continues, Iran should be treated as a barbaric nation, much the same way we treated China until it became too financially compelling not to grant them favored nation status, but of course the Saudi's were doing the same things to women all along, and collecting frequent flier miles back and forth between the Bush ranch and home, and we never said a word about women being stoned for adultery, or imprisoned for rape....

I don't think they even require proof to convict of adultery, but merely the accusation of a man, and the murder charges were recently brought against her because the rest of the world objected to stoning for adultery, never suspecting that they would trump up even greater charges to justify their insatiate need for barbarity and violence.

Sanctions only hurt the working poor of a nation.
Just look at Iraq after the first gulf war. All those sanctions did nothing to Saddam and his administration. But, it did kill a lot of innocent Iraqi citizens.

They have enough intelligence not to use their nuclear weapons or it would be complete annihilation for the whole country and more.
