Anti-War Protesters Face Up To 10 Years In Prison

The_Global_Report
A federal grand jury in Tacoma, Washington has indicted five anti-war protesters –most of them senior citizens-- on charges of conspiracy, trespass and destruction of government property for entering a secure area at the Kitsap-Bangor Naval Base complex last November. The charges carry penalties of up to 10 years in federal prison. The five are accused of using bolt cutters last November to breach three chain-link fences surrounding the base, which is home to part of the Pacific nuclear submarine fleet.

    • Maybe they should send them a thank you note instead...if they were able to get in, how easy would it be for someone who really wanted to do harm in this country?

    • It's definitely a two sided discussion, I do believe that its pretty sad that some old people broke into a naval base, but we can't discriminate it,else the judicial system looks even more hypocritical, like someone said earlier "what if they where muslim?" we be demanding execution during half time on the next Sunday night football.

    • It is patriotic to protect what you disagree with , in THIS country . 10 years ? -- no one was hurt , or even in danger of such !!!! Perhaps they were embarrassed about the security breach and over reacted ..... to try and save face .

That's exactly what it is. They fucked up by not making a nuclear base more secure than a 'chainlink fence' and want to discourage others by giving out lengthy sentences instead of say 'putting up a better security system'.

    • This is why the judicial system has layers. Anyone breaking into a Naval Base needs to be arrested. Now it is up to a judge and do the right thing in terms of sentencing. Or hopefully lack thereof.

    • An 81 year-old priest, two nuns and a couple of 60 year-olds? Are you kidding me? They just look dangerous as hell. It's so bizarre it's almost funny. Okay, they were wrong, but man, can you imagine being one of the guards who had to get them off the ladder? That's like going after grandma. I think they should be ordered to do some sort of community service where they can be rehabilitated, maybe work with the boy scouts, or the girl scouts. Course this group might recruit some converts while they are doing their service.

It will immobilize itself eventually. Anyone with knowledge of history knows even a Roman army can fall victim to it's own hubris.

If Yellowstone erupted tomorrow then next year the United States, along with the entire planet would be starving from all our crops being deprived of sunlight from the ashcloud. Then we 'might' start asking why we're spending 600 billion dollars a year for defense while 20 million people a month are starving to death in the USA (in that scenario). Then I'd imagine our military force, our government infrastructure, along with all governments worldwide would start collapsing very fast.

You can't have an empire or an army without any people.

    • What kind of "security" allows five senior citizens break in? Not too impressed. Other than that any punishment they get they deserve...

    • Even old antiwar protesters should realize that breaking into property that is not yours is illegal. They don't deserve the maximum but they should be punished.
