Lack of oxygen, a massive release of hydrogen sulfide, a sharp temperature change and/or chemicals could be responsible. They're going to have to test the water to know for sure--if they can stand the smell.

This was/is a nice place. Sad to see that my home, a place that only recently I've been able to appreciate for it's positive attributes, may very well be in for a world of trouble in the future. I do mean larger, more grandiose troubles, if thats possible.

Terribly, unforgivably sad. And what kills the fish can... and probably will... eventually kill off the regional humans (it's happened before).

What the hell happened?
And worse, will it even matter? Chances are that's it a corporate entity that's responsible, one that will get away more or less scott free if recent precedents are any indication. Especially in Mississippi.

Very sad. I'm curious to see what results the investigators yield. Anoxic water is definitely a bad thing. If that is indeed the case, the only thing living that will be there is bacteria.
We had a similar event happen here in PA a little while back. 30 miles of the Dunkard creek was decimated by mine runoff. Absolutely lifeless. I wouldn't be surprised if something like that is what cause this current disaster.

I read about that.
And that bacteria will live on, and on, and on. This fish kill shouldn't surprise any of us.

Oh, you know it. It's a shame that these type of events are becoming more commonplace as the population and consumption grows out of control.

Perhaps it was all that oil we put into the ocean?
No one is really going to notice this post either. That's sad.
Although brittany spears is more important than the environment..... So i guess I understand - 2 years ago

It really is sad. Where I live is not far from this and its widely accepted that this will barely catch a glance of attention. From anybody.

It's caught MY attention... and I sadly knew horror stories such as this would happen as a result of BP/Halliburton/Transocean's greed. Check out "BP Catastrophe" in Current. We need folks like you to keep the news going... please!

It's a whole LOT scary, my friend!
See if your library carries the new book, "Animal Factory." The first two chapters are about fish kills, and it sure as hell seems that these massive "death-offs" are not natural.
