John Sewell, historic buildings architect for the Peak District National Park Authority, said insulating wall cavities and draught-proofing are some of the most important steps homeowners can take to improve the efficiency of their properties - particularly old houses.
"We recommend using natural insulation such as sheep's wool or hemp fibre and insulated lime plaster for internal walls," Mr Sewell commented.
"They are permeable, have good thermal properties and prevent condensation."
