O'Donnell In 2006: Homosexuality 'An Identity Disorder'

As Greg Sargent reports, O'Donnell said in an interview for the Wilmington News Journal in 2006 that homosexuality was a disorder. Greg has obtained the original quote from the reporter's notes:
"People are created in God's image. Homosexuality is an identity adopted through societal factors. It's an identity disorder."
The TPM Poll Average gives Democratic nominee Chris Coons a lead of 52.2%-38.8%.

"created in god's image" is a superstitious delusion not unlike a child's fear of monsters in the closet. Whereas children usually grow out of their young fears, superstitious delusion can and does last a lifetime.
It is no less dysfunctional in any event and is always in need of professional resolution. In the least, it ought not be allowed the opportunity to sit in the role of leader to other persons. Citizens similarly deluded are not helped by a deluded leader and citizens without such delusion cannot be led by a delusional "leader".
In my experiences with sexual diversity, I've noticed it to be the result of increased or superior intellectual, emotional and spiritual awareness rather than less. My experiences do not speak for all of those who are sexually diverse, but I trust you see my point that O'Donnell's statements hardly speak to ALL whose lives are something other than heterosexual.
On the other hand, religious delusion is still delusion no matter the degree to which one is afflicted and one's intellectual, emotional and spiritual progress is stunted in direct proportion to one's handicap.

Actually homosexuality is a disorder.
as it is not normal it would be defined as a disorder.
As with any disorder being it physical, mental or sexual , as such we need to be tolerant of many different disabilities, disorders and perversion within our society.Stating a fact or truth does not make a person a bigot , hateful or intolerant.

That's just not true. You only label Homosexuality as a "disorder" because you are defining Heterosexuality as the norm. Yet when we accept that BOTH homo- & heterosexuality are normal, NEITHER would be defined as a "disorder."
So, while you mean well, you are wrong. Homosexuality & Heterosexuality both normally and regularly occur in nature, and each is normal. Therefore, neither is a disorder.

Pedophiles,Incest and cannibalism
using your argument all we have to do is "define "these as normal and they would be socially acceptable. However Ill not get into an argument over homosexuality as once the Muslim take control they will kill all the homosexuals. What is a disorder depends on how your world view of what is "order."
I base my definition of order on reason and logic rather than canned morals. Most people sexually invested in the same sex are functioning members of society. If you believe that homosexuality affects the world outside of the bedroom differently than heterosexuality, you've got some stereotypes you need to check.
The only disorder particularly involving homosexuality (as opposed to sexuality in general) occurs when those who partake in it are discriminated against, oppressed, abused or damaged by heterosexist or homophobic peers. These peers create chaos and thus are unable to function within otherwise perfectly functioning communities. As many people might say racism and sexism are disorders, heterosexism and homophobia are disorders in the same vein.
But disorders are a quirky subject. Some believe disorders are based in nature, while others believe that they are societal constructs. Regardless of your stance, we should not accept chaos in an appeal to nature. We are sentient people capable of bringing order out of chaos. We should strive to make everyone a contributing and functioning member of our society so that we can continue to grow as a people.
Does that mean we need thought police telling everyone what to think and how to act? No, but it means we need to deal with real problems with real consequences in society. Homosexuality has no real negative consequence while heterosexism and homophobia can have disastrous impact on the well-being of individuals and communities. Insecurities, paranoia and stereotypes are the root of the the problem. The solution is education and interaction with homosexuals, and for the more serious cases a combination of psychological evaluation, counseling and therapy.

"Homosexuality" is only a disorder if one decides the sole purpose of human sexuality is the production of children - a limited point of view to be sure. In fact, human sexuality has about as many real purposes as there are human beings engaging in that behavior.
If one's purpose is sexual pleasure instead of procreation and one creates a child unintentionally, obviously heterosexuality is a disorder with regard to one's intent.
"Order" is relative to context and personal intent. If the "order of the day" is to make war on all other human beings, to make peace would seem "disorder", yes?

"Normal" is a statistical thing, not a value judgment. A thing becomes the "norm" when it is the most statistically observed. Sure, in some cultures the "norm" is cannibalism in that the majority of that culture practice such behavior. "Normal" isn't a judgment but rather a mathematical fact.
As we all know, a thing CAN be the statistical norm and yet still be considered "unethical", "immoral" or, in the least, undesirable. Statistically speaking, the human species is continually at war either with itself or with the rest of nature. That is the "norm", but it's undesirable all the same, i.e., unethical or immoral.
Homosexuality, bisexuality, asexuality, transsexualism, etc. may all lie statistically outside the norm of human behaviors, but makes no statement as to whether these behaviors or states of being are "immoral", "unethical", undesirable, etc. Such judgments are context dependent, i.e., relative to the persons speaking.
It is a mistake to equate "statistical norm" with "acceptable". They are not equal and never have been except in the overly simplistic thinking of immature human beings.

So why is homosexuality the big bad evil here?
Also doesn't Christine O'Donnell's statements that Satanists are fine and hanging out with witches is fine but somehow homosexuality is a disorder worth freaking out over piss you off or cause you to look up the word hypocrisy in the dictionary to see if her and the Tea Party candidates (and the Republicans) have a picture next to the definition.

Agreed, assuming you know the things you state ARE facts. In this case, it's not. Homosexuality has been observed in many species in addition to human beings. It's even been observed in fish. Since I'm certain it's not a "life choice" on their part the only other explanation is that it's genetic. If something is genetic it may be different but that doesn't make it abnormal.

You really need to define normal before you can establish that a behavior is outside its parameters. If you define normal as what the majority of people experience, then homosexuality is well within that definition. Consider all the 'experimentation' with same-sex relationships - there are far more out there than we admit to, and even while short-term, it counts toward the whole of this definition of normal.
Define normal, then we can go from there.

The definition of normal can be defined from a world view, national, religious, culture, social, local, family and I'm sure we can all expand on this.

She's not a scientist, doctor, or academic of any kind, so her opinion on this issue merits zero credibility. The only interesting revelations (as if it were not abundantly clear by now from her other extremist positions) is both her extensive stupidity and disturbing predilection to disregard science in favor of ideological nonsense. "On the other hand, religious delusion is still delusion no matter the degree to which one is afflicted and one's intellectual, emotional and spiritual progress is stunted in direct proportion to one's handicap" --your comment--
yet, ironically you speak of pagan, witchcraft rituals that you participate in. these, simply by definition are religious practices and/or groups. christianity and islam are not the only "religions" in the world by definition. therefore, are you saying that, you are delusional??
i don't ask to be offensive: but it seems that your two statements are non-sequiter. and it seems to me that your isolating monotheistic beliefs as religion - and not polytheistic beliefs. even atheism in america has become it's own religion - with groups and the like that meet together to celebrate acknowledging "no God."
the fact remains that religion (any of it) in the hands of man is corrupt. it's unfortunate that monotheistic believers have extremists who give them a bad name.

I think everyone forgets that we do not live in this utopia, a utopia that its their world. We live among billions of people. Just they think that gay is an identity disorder does not mean that it is one. In history we have always made a mistake, we cant be label everything. In this world we need positive people to run, in order to their job and not criticize a group of people that is not saying anything. It would be great if homosexuality or the stand on a homosexuality is not the question to define you stands as republican.
