The county ordinance, which would have immediately banned new dispensaries and existing dispensaries without the proper permits, needed to be approved by 4/5ths of the board of supervisors.
Supervisors John Moorlach and Shawn Nelson voted against the emergency ordinance, arguing there wasn’t an emergency to warrant immediate adoption of the freeze on dispensaries.
Instead county staff was ordered to come up with an ordinance by Nov. 9 which would regulate medical marijuana cooperatives.

All we have to do is vote out the ones that don't want to legalize it and vote the ones in that will. If the ones that are in now wasn't so scared of their own shadows it might already be done!!!

uh NO! there is NOT more money in legalization. if you legalize weed, it will drop the to same price as cigarettes. california actually makes more off sales tax by keeping it ILLEGAL, so that an 1/8th is over $50

Bullshit. The amount of tax dollars alone that would be freed up from government efforts to arrest, prosecute, and house mj offenders in prisons, along with the money that will be generated from the growing hemp industry would be enormous. All of this on top of the sales tax that will be generated from legal cannabis and the tourism it brings to the state, and somehow you think there's more money in the sales tax from $50 eighths at medical dispensaries? please explain.

Really? What's so sickening about them? Are you afraid of the benefits that the earth's natural drug can give you? or are you just more comfortable eating the laboratory concocted drugs?

I have to agree with themotivateddropout and I too would like to know what exactly it is that sickens you about this? Would you rather see people just buying it off the street? Where the government gets nothing out of the sale? Not only dose the quality of the product go up so dose the tax revenue from the sales. Hell I don't even see where or why you would need a prescription for it.

Indeed chalk one up for reasonable people in what is commonly known as a very unreasonable and ultra conservative part of California.

Of course they regulate gas stations. Thats one of the major incomes for privately owned corporations. They gather the oil and convert it to usable fuel and sell it back to us for jacked prices. Almost all of these corporations are owned by the same people and these people have more money than everybody else. Think of John D. Rockefeller: The King of the Oil industry. His power grew as he monopolized his line of work. What makes you think that there isn't a modern Rockefeller who gets a taste of everything?
The think about weed is that it is not comparable to gasoline. Can you go out and dig some oil from ur back yard? Well, maybe some people, but not typically. Marijuana is like moonshine: it can be devised from home. Thus, no one needs to buy it. Thus, no money is made from taxes. The thing I don't understand is why the government is willing to throw down almost 30K per inmate
Here's an excerpt from an article I found:
"Police arrested an estimated 723,627 persons for marijuana violations in 2001, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's annual Uniform Crime Report, released today. The total is the second highest ever recorded by the FBI, and comprises nearly half of all drug arrests in the United States.
"These numbers belie the myth that police do not target and arrest minor marijuana offenders," said Keith Stroup, Executive Director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML). "In fact, the war on drugs is largely a war on pot smokers. This effort is a tremendous waste of criminal justice resources that should be dedicated toward combating serious and violent crime, including the war on terrorism."
Of those charged with marijuana violations, 88.6 percent - some 641,108 Americans - were charged with possession only. The remaining 82,518 individuals were charged with "sale/manufacture," a category that includes all cultivation offenses - even those where the marijuana was being grown for personal or medical use."

$21,708,810,000 in housing people for marijuana charges. yes that is billion. This is a big dent in the deficit don't you think?

That's a fairly large dent if I do say so myself. To me, that seems like a giant waste of tax dollars. Why are people still wanting this to be happening? The drug war just wastes the tax payers money on a semi-justifiable cause, but nonetheless a cause that has gotten them absolutely nowhere. Everybody needs to understand that drugs can actually be a good thing. It all depends on how you look at them.
Here's a "good drug" advertisement:
"You say your head hurts? Here, take this Tylenol Superpower Charged Pain Relief! It'll clear that up in no time! (Buy now just 9.95 at your local Wal-Mart)"
Here's a "bad drug" advertisement:
"Your boss pissing you off? Here, smoke this Hydroponic Alaskan Skunk Tail! It'll chill you right the fuck down in no time! (Just kidding! First you gotta be sick and dying, then I can sell it to you)" - 1 year ago
