School Suspends Boy for Bloodshot Eyes

The teen said he was not high. Instead his eyes were red because he had been grieving the loss of his murdered father.
Kyler Robertson’s father was stabbed to death on Sunday. His mother honored his wishes and let him go to school on Tuesday to be with his friends.
“I am sure he had a lot on his mind going to school. I had asked him not to go to school,” said Cristy Fritz.
Before returning to class Kyler had to go to the office to get a tardy slip. That’s when school employees accused him of being high because he had red and watery eyes.
Fritz said she got a call from administrators who told her Kyler would be suspended for three days.
“I was pleading with her to understand the severity of the situation, his emotional well being. How could they do this to him at this time? What are the alternatives?” she said.
District spokeswoman Lesley Weaver would not discuss the case with FOX 4, but said when administrators suspect a student is under the influence, a school nurse will observe symptoms like their behavior, odor and their eyes.
The district does not actually test students, though. That’s left to the parents.
Fritz said she was told by the assistant principal that she could have Kyler tested for drugs within two hours and if it was negative he could return to school. She did just that.
Kyler was allowed to return to class after he showed school administrators a copy of his negative test results.

fucking Texas ignorance, this is seriously disgraceful of them!
as i continually say: i apologize to all who think this state is in some kind of unprogressive, ideologically warped bubble.
oh wait...it still is, only if you're a politician or not in the big cities. SHIT!!!

Some of these schools have turned almost into jails in which students only go to be treated like thugs. The kids "must" be having sex, doing drugs and breaking the law they imagine, so they fill the school with cameras and implement strict zero tolerance rules for everything.
This environment of course, creates students who come to hate authority in all its types, thus leading to a self fulfilling prophecy.

And that is why it's always best to jump to conclusions.
We live in a "damned if you do/damned if you don't" world right now, where if any little thing goes wrong anyone involved is accused of not being vigilant enough, but when inevitably some innocent gets treated like they did something wrong we all jump on their backs.
The school admin didn't think it through and the nurse has no clue about pot use, but their actions are the result of our highly polarized and critical culture.
Shouldn't have happened, but it is to be expected.

I made the mistake of swimming for an hour before work and looking under water without goggles. For my entire shift, my eyes were extremely irritated and blood red. I certainly wouldn't want to get fired based on bloodshot eyes, alone.

Schools are getting dumber than the fucking students, and if the teachers are the ones being taught, like what being high really looks like, its no wonder we have a lower literacy rate the Japan.

It comes from Faux News. ...can it really be trusted.
It seems like they only go after "stories" that provoke an emotional response.Logically - if the nurse "smelled" the boy, and he "smelled" like marijuana, then they should have suspended him. That smell doesn't come from anywhere else.
It's pretty unmistakable....unless the Nurse had a Cold that day. - 1 year ago

-Still. If he smelled like Mary Jane, and his eyes were red, that's reasonable suspicion.
He did get to come back, after he proved his innocence.FYI: Here in the US it's supposed to be "innocent until proven guilty", but how often is that really true?
I had a speeding ticket a few weeks back, when I know I was going the speed limit, had several witnesses, there was no evidence against me, and yet I was still guilty based on proof of the "cop's word".When government is small, it cannot regulate, and corporate greed runs ramped. When corporations build our prison systems, their goal is to get customers "prisoners".
Against these odds, innocence must be proven. - 1 year ago

This is ridiculous! Insane! By personal experience, this really is how American high school is now. Heartless, worthless, and crude. High schools are nothing but diploma factories, and most teachers are nothing but factory workers employed to sort out the students they deem to be "defective" and toss them into the rubbish pile.
No one should delude themselves into believing that high schools and most of their staff care about education, feelings, aspirations, and success. They only want to keep attendance rates up and awareness levels down.
My heart goes out to Kyler Robertson and his family.

This is newsworthy because people should be aware that somewhere in America someone is expelled from school because their father was murdered. That's what this story boils down to.What a silly statement you've contributed.
