UK: Six Men Arrested For Burning Korans

Is burning a book illegal in Britain? Would someone who burned a Bible be arrested? I think probably not, because British authorities know that no Christians would go ape and start killing innocent people if someone burned a Bible. That means that most likely these men were arrested because Muslims are likely to commit acts of irrational violence in response to their action. But that, in fact, is solely the responsibility of the Muslims in question, not of the Qur'an-burners. It is breathtaking how easily the West has assumed responsibility for the insanely violent reactions of Muslims to provocations that, if they had been directed toward Christians or Jews, would have been greeted with indifference.

'Six men in England have been arrested after two Qur'ans were burned and video of the Sept. 11 act was posted online.

Four men were arrested Wednesday and two men had been arrested Sept. 15 on "suspicion of stirring racial hatred," a Northumbria police press release said....'

What race is Islam again?

Police and Gateshead council issued a joint statement about the burning, saying it is not how most people in the town feel or act.

"The kind of behaviour displayed in this video is not at all representative of our community as a whole. Our community is one of mutual respect and we continue to work together with community leaders, residents and people of all faiths and beliefs to maintain good community relations," the statement said.'

Great. When will see that "mutual respect" reciprocated?

    • Arrested! For this!!!! Britain is getting more and more absurd. I don't see the crime here. Well, what do you expect from a country where one of their officials suggested that all paychecks go to the government where the assumed tax is withdrawn and the rest issued to the earner. Glad I don't live there.

      See, the difference is that if an athiest/agnostic were forced into the option of converting or being killed; he/she probably wouldn't have any qualms about converting. Athiests/agnostics don't have an incentive to be martyrs for their beleifs (i.e. no virgins or sainthood promised). Their beleif is to stay alive as long as possible, as that is the only thing we're here for.

      I rarely express my beleifs to people in my community now, as they would just look at me like I lack morals and try to convert me. Doesn't really matter to me whether I have to lie about being a christian or muslim, it feels wrong either way.

      Either way, I think it is amazing that people assume that muslims would take over the world. Clearly it is going to be the Chinese once they run out of resources. Muslims are too busy killing each other and themselves.

    • As bad as burning anyone's "Holy Book" is, much less burning any book, it's unacceptable that there is preference shown in the "rights". Apparently it's OK to burn national flags (representing the British people), or the Bible (representing the ethnic mix that is the Christian "nation", if you will), but it's somehow illegal to burn a Qu'ran because it's a "racial offence"?
      Detestible example of political correctness run amok.

      couldn't have said it better myself and it is the main reason why so called political correctness will be downfall of all the western democracies! Bet Islam is laughing at the stupidity of the British government for prosecuting these guys for exercising free speech!
