Queen tried to use state poverty fund to heat Buckingham Palace

One of the main criticisms faced by the Royal family are the costs they need from the government and taxpayers. The latest news from the Independent reveals the Palace complained about the grant given to the Queen stating the £15m was inadequate and how they almost received a grant from the Community Energy fund.

The Deputy Treasurer looked towards the Department for Culture, Media and Sport asking if they could benefit from the Community Energy fund.

"He asked: "Community Energy can fund up to 40 per cent of the capital costs of implementing a community heating scheme... Since we are already grant-in-aid funded [the Queen receives £15m a year for the upkeep of her palaces] we would like to know whether the Household [would] be able to benefit from these grants. I look forward to your comments."
[...] Surprisingly the Government offered no resistance to the proposed application and cleared the way for the Queen to take advantage of the handout."-Independent

However, the plans for part of the grant were pulled, since Whitehall officials decided the grant was meant for low income families/councils and would cause negative press if the handout lost a hospital its heating funding. Later contractors found out why the energy bill for the Palaces were increasing, due to heat loss from windows and cracks in the walls.

The Article lists over 17 councils that received money for heating, which would have ended up heating Windsor.

    • So it's fine for the Queen and her inbred offspring to live off the taxpayers, yet when anyone else tries to do it they are vilified and branded scum in the newspapers.
the Royalty are no better than any benefit scrounger who claim while they can work, because this is what the queen and her family have done all their lives and their ancestors (isn't that whole point of royalty?). And it will only continue until the UK people gain more respect for themselves and realise that we should not have a system in place that gives absolute power, immunity from any laws, and endless acres of land and money to someone just because they were born, and because we are fed that this is normal, in this supposed democracy.
