CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is close to finalizing a deal to host his very own syndicated daytime talk show starting next year, set to fill the void left behind by Oprah Winfrey. Cooper would also executive produce the show, which would focus on pop culture, news stories, and celebrity interviews.
Anderson is expected to continue with CNN for now, at least until his contract is up. This deal comes after his show "Anderson Cooper 360" and CNN as a whole have experienced dwindling ratings the past year, consistently lagging behind MSNBC and Fox News.
In an effort to shake things up, the news network has enlisted Piers Morgan to replace the departing Larry King come the new year, as well as former New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer. Spitzer's new show "Parker Spitzer" launches on Mon., Oct. 4.
Anderson Cooper is no stranger to daytime TV, often filling in for Regis Philbin on "Live! With Regis and Kelly." He also had a brief foray into reality TV as the host of ABC's "The Mole" in 2001.
