Extremely interesting post but of course the true cost of nine year global "War on Terror" with no end in sight can never be truly calculated. The monetary losses can not even begin to measure the destruction that the American psych has suffered. Losing thousands of brave, young Americans or the even larger number of returning veterans who come home to a now vastly different America. Where the middle class has been almost eliminated and the American Dream has become an impossible fable. Massive unemployment, a wasteland that is now the housing market (record number of foreclosures, the economic destruction of entire communities and a nasty battle of morals and beliefs between the radical elements of both conservatives and liberals). 4 trillion is the current dollar amount the DoD has released in a feeble attempt to calculate the cost of the War on Terror.
I have just returned from BNOC/WLC as part of my upcoming CONUS re-assignment of my home for the last decade as a proud cavalry scout for the 1-89th/2nd BCT/10th Mountain to join the Armor School at Fort Knox (soon to be relocated to Fort Benning). During my time at BNOC one theme was clear the U.S Military does not expect the War on Terror to end anytime soon and is currently in the process of transforming the Army. The U.S Army of Tomorrow will not be a massive force designed for large scale warfare but instead a streamed lined, elite force of light infantry designed for prolonged occupation. An Army that will not even pretend to protect democracy and freedom but instead be used to further the private, economic interests of massive corporations.
The AF-PAK conflict is only going to rapidly escalate as the security of Pakistan becomes even more fragile. Rumors of a supposed U.S plan to secure Pakistan nuclear arsenal in an attempt to keep it out of radical Islamic militants and a CIA funded, trained and controlled force of Afghan para-militants whose mission is to cross the mountainous eastern border entering Pakistan's taliban control Swat valley engaging in an armed conflict with Islamic Militants. I have no ideas if there is any truths to the rumors surrounding the CIA. I have no idea of the certainty of a combined military strike against Iran by the U.S and Israel in response to the rising threat of Iran's supposed nuclear weapons program. - 1 year ago

Bking74: Very informative. Have you heard about the tentative plans to go to war with PAKISTAN? I posted a video on my blog, http://corksphere.blogspot, com about an hour ago discussing the matter.

Nice video. It's disturbing how much we've all lost for nothing. Or rather, so that a few could gain something at our expense. These are wars against us as much as they are against Iraq, Afghanistan or Al Qaeda.

U R right. It is a pity how much we are spending on these wars when we have so many problems at home.
