The Express apologised and is set to pay libel damages to the makers of Grand Theft Auto, after the Daily Star printed a story claiming the company was making a game based on Raoul Moat.

From reading the story it sounds like the Star saw a photoshopped image from the internet of the GTA series but themed with Raoul Moat, they then printed the image and a story about the game. GTA was not planning on making a game based on the Moat story and it is stated the paper didn't approach Rockstar games about the article before printing.

""The article was illustrated by an image which purported to be the cover of the new video game. The defendant solicited and published quotes from third parties, including one from a grieving relative of a victim of Mr Moat, in which the alleged plan to create such a game was described as 'sick' and deplored in the strongest terms.

"In a leader, the defendant commented that the people behind the production of the video game were 'questionable idiots' who were making money out of other people's misery.""-Press Gazette
