Russ Jones, who has spent more than 30 years fighting the War On Drugs, has something to say about his life's work: it is a complete failure that should be ended.

    • I find this to be the most effective statement in his entire argument and i agree with him 100% . "To those who doubt the effectiveness of public education, Jones pointed to cigarette smoking. "With education, we reduced the use of tobacco in this country from 42 percent to 17 percent, and we did that without firing one shot or kicking in any doors,"

    • I want to see this over once and for all and see murderers, rapists, ALCOHOLICS, politicians who are constantly screwing the poor, and policeman who engage in police brutality in jail for as long as they properly should be!

    • Drug addicts should be treated with rehabilitation programs, instead of incarceration. Jail only makes them worse, by either making them a better criminal, or tainting the possibility of a good life. Wake up and end the war on drugs and treat this problem with a proper solution, medically and without punishment.

I agree and disagree with you. If we could treat people just for being addicts like a simple clean case it would be amazing. But we can not force someone into a rehabilitation service because until they are ready they will not respond. Also it comes into the issue of who will pay for this, the American people or the addict? Also who will pay for the policing of the drug? I just think it would be much better to legalize all drug use and only deal with people who are doing outside the home with tickets. If someone chooses to waste their life on hard drugs, that's their choice and if they wish to change that, then they can ask for help but until then its up to the responsibility of friends ,family, or the user to find clarity of their situation.

    • maybe its TIME for people to start doing that before they retire. On not targeting this one man there have been many reports of this same kind of RETIRED drug officials saying we need to stop this. Maybe its time people started saying it to their boss.

    • not going to happen there are to many people in office that have invested in the prison system. The best way to keep the profits up is to keep the prisons full. So there will never be an all out free weed society.

Shit you get out on a murder charge quicker than a drug charge. Rape a girl go to jail for a couple of years get caught with a pound of weed go to jail for ten to twenty. TRhats just so wrong.

    • theres a bunch of narcotics agents that swore the "war on drugs" is a waste of time and money... but there only 1/3 right... the war on (pot) is an incredible waste of time and effort. just about every other illegal drug is not. (~opinion~ mushrooms should be legal but with like a warning sigh lol)
people know the difference between bad drugs and normal drugs like weed and alcohol, cigaretts,... t.v. but theres really bad drugs out there that I beleive should be shut down. america shouldent give that freedom to people if there gonna 80% of the time end up destroying lives.

I have a big problem with people putting alcohol & pot in the same category. They are not the same at all. Pot has never directly caused anyones death. Alcohol has countless times. Cigarettes have countless times. We have to stop treating pot like is the same or worse than these toxic substances. The only bad/unhealthy thing about pot is the smoke. As long as it is not smoked it has been proven over & over again as a good medicinal herb
