http://www.mainjustice.com/2010/10/15/obama-drug-war-remarks-irk-dea-agents/
Obama didn't even take the time to vet Michele Leonhart as the head of the DEA, he just rubber stamped her and they are dragging their feet with confirmation. He just doesn't care, and couldn't be bothered to think about drug policy. Maybe he knows it's all bullshit and is neglecting it because the time is not right.
But the truth is he has a problem and it is the same with many people in California. They have become complacent. The status quo is working for them, they aren't getting busted, and they don't see why they should vote yes on 19. Where would Obama be if he got busted when he was smoking reefer?
It does matter. Cops can hassle us as long as it is not legal; decriminalization is not enough!

Official Statement in Response to Attorney General Eric Holder Letter on Enforcing Marijuana Laws
In response to Attorney General Eric Holder's comments about California's Proposition 19 today, the following statement was released by Joseph McNamara, a retired San Jose chief of police and a supporter of Proposition 19:
"As we saw with the repeal of alcohol prohibition, it takes action from the states to push the federal government to change its policies.
"Passing Proposition 19 in California will undoubtedly kick start a national conversation about changing our country's obviously failed marijuana prohibition policies. If the federal government wants to keep fighting the nation’s failed 'war on marijuana' while we're in the midst of a sagging economic recovery and two wars it just proves that the establishment politicians' priorities are wrongly focused on maintaining the status quo.
"Voters in California are sick of policies that funnel money to violent drug cartels and gangs, make it easier for teens to get illegal marijuana than age-regulated alcohol, and that waste billions of dollars. Our citizens want solutions to the constant budget struggles that plague the state and not a continuation of the costly failed policies that lock up too many of our citizens and prolong our economic hardships.
"As will be shown on Nov. 2, Californians are not going to let politicians in Washington, DC tell them how to vote.

Rahm Emanuel was Obama's cheif of staff. Thank god he is out of the picture for now. He was Bill Clinton's advisor from 93-98. During that time cannabis arrests went from 326K in '90 to 682K in '98. Rahm went after bud doctors just after 215 was passed in 96; they took it to the supreme court and ruled doctors' recommendations are protected speech.
There is no way anything was going to change with that guy around.

Any one that opposes legalizing marijuana, aka weed, aka pot, for smoking use is either uneducated about it, or is working for a corporations like big pharma
