Dirty Mind Trick Or Psychic? Lawyer Tells Client Dead Wife Entered Her And Wants Them To Be Intimate

PHOENIX - Lawyers operate under what are called the rules of professional conduct and those rules are monitored by the state bar.

One valley attorney on more than one occasion claimed she could communicate with clients' dead loved ones and that's not what got her into trouble - it's that she apparently lied about it.

It's a familiar storyline that Hollywood uses again and again - channeling the spirits of those who have died.

Movie trailers for the latest Matt Damon film by Clint Eastwood, "Hereafter," are proof that the formula still draws attention at the box office.

Attention from the Arizona Supreme Court in the form of a disciplinary commission isn't the kind of focus any practicing attorney would want, but that's just what Charna Johnson, a Phoenix lawyer got when she claimed she channeled spirits of her clients' deceased family members.

"That particular aspect of her conduct made it impossible for her to provide objective representation for the client, so it was the basis for the finding that there was a conflict of interest in the case," said Maret Vessella, Arizona Chief Bar Counsel.

Cutting through the legalese in the 30 page report is tough, but certain phrases are crystal clear. Johnson told her client, Chad Lakridis, she was essentially possessed with his wife's spirit.

She gave advice seemingly from beyond the grave and even encouraged a connection a physical level.

Now Johnson is listed along with 55 other attorneys in the state who are or may be suspended or are being reinstated.

"That proceeding is a rather difficult proceeding for the lawyer who had the burden of proving that they are rehabilitated and currently fit to practice law," said Vessella.

What may be surprising is that the apparent channeling of spirits isn't the basis for suspension - it's that Johnson lied about it to a disciplinary commission in regard to another case.

The Arizona Supreme Court now has to decide, barring any appeals by either side, whether or not to suspend Johnson for a year.

We tried tracking her down for a comment on the case, but were unable to do so.
