The internal organs of a cow are used as tennis racquet strings? Wow, that is f@#$ed up.
Just the other day my wife and I had an issue with the Trident Gum company. We emailed them for a list of their products with gelatin/meat byproducts and they responded with this: "...maintaining a list of products for specific dietary practices would be virtually impossible." A total cop-out as we were able to get a complete list from Wrigley Gum at the same time. We will no longer support Trident, until a time that they can become responsible enough to let their customers know when an animal has been killed to make their product. - 1 year ago

Neat. Another sourceless, under researched attempt to discredit veganism. Most of the listed items have vegan alternatives, and lots of those that do not are not even necessities. (How will I live without my explosives?) Look, it sucks for us that animal products are in a lot of things. Most vegans who have educated themselves know essentially where animal products are and aren't. Most of us just try the best that we can to do what we feel is right. I try the best I can to avoid causing damage to another living being and I know that I could accidently step on a bug and that my attempts won't be without failure, but I do it because I don't enjoy the idea of harming something when I can take as many measures as I can to prevent it. You're probably not exempt from unknowingly causing harm to a cause you feel strongly about, either. You may have accidently purchased something made with child labor, or something that claimed to be environmentally friendly when it ,in fact, is not. That doesn't void our efforts. Vegans don't claim to be perfect. These kinds of "take that, you dirty vegan!" posts are more irritating than enlightening.

Thanks, Mariased, for saying what I didn't have time to add... and for saying it so much better than I'D have done!

I guess you could look at it as more of a springboard of sorts. Just look up what you don't know.

I suppose. I'm definitely not opposed to learning more about what commonly used products are really made of. It's really just the tone of these things that irk me. It's one thing to be informative and quite another to be smug.

Ah, but we ETHICAL vegans do the very, very, VERY best we possibly can, and are aware of all of the above, but we're also involved in contributing to CHANGES to such products. If this was intended as a sadistic attack (I trust I'm mis-reading you), it was pointless. And I bet YOU aren't perfect, either, yes? What have YOU done for our earth, for our people, for our schools, for people living with HIV and AIDS, for our homeless, for our Vietnam vets, for any war veterans, for pollution problems, for children, for oil spills, for the elderly....?
And truly, and in all fairness, this does not belong in "News," don't you agree? I mean, I've been submitting about the earthquake, tsunami, and volcano eruption that has tragically hit Indonesia's poorest people, and yet this is what YOU consider news?

Oh, by the way, vegetarians don't care about animal byproducts, as do us vegans. We're two different schools of thought and then, even within veganism itself, there are those who are only welfarists, and there are those of us who are rights-ists, if you will.
[One of your crushes is a vegan, and so is her sister, the latter who oftentimes works with one of my animal rights-related nonprofits, which is a farmed animals sanctuary.]

No it's not an attack. I just simply copied the story from Gizmodo. It really is a lot of work to avoid animal byproducts.
