Marijuana although recognized for its medicinal effects also has adverse effects. Provide jobs and not let murderers serve less time than a black man who smokes his joint after your system stresses him out.

Too be honest, I'm not sure it'll be regulated enough. Actually, I don't even know what kind of regulation I want for mj. I don't know what I'll vote for. . .

CarlosIsDown:
It could be regulated like tomatoes or asparagus. You can grow a few at home in your garden, but that's only for personal use. For everybody else who has no lawn or doesn't care about spending money, they can go the supermarket and grab a pack of joints.
They could treat it like wine. Have "wine tastings" full of jars of different kinds of bud and people can go in and take a hit of whatever they want out of a one hitter. Then they can buy an ounce or more for like 100 dollars. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Plus, restaurants could bake it into food with the right permit. You could roll down to the local cafe for a sandwich and a smoothie and walk out of there high as the moon.
As long as people don't sell it from home tax-free the gov't is cool. - 1 year ago

Sure, if you're willing to take the risk of lung or testicular cancer. Plus, weed picked up off the streets has the tendency to be laced with other more harmful drugs.

Let me get this strait, lets keep it on the streets so ass holes can lace it with nasty shit like meth and coke and radiator fluid. God forbid you get it safely from a pharma dealer where if it's got problems you can complain about it legally. Yeah, that makes sense.

I never said it shouldn't be legalized, I'm just saying legalizing it doesn't necessarily make it a good habit to have. Outside of medical purposes and tax benefits, it's still harmful to your health in some sense if you overdo it. The same can be said for all legal prescription drugs. Go ahead and legalize it, just don't be stupid.

I guess it is. If the government can make sure that it's not being lace, that could improve safety.

Lots of things that are legal are bad; coffee, cigarettes, video games, taking Tylenol or Aspirin everyday.
"if you're willing to take the risk of lung or testicular cancer."
There is no definite answer to the question, "does Marijuana cause cancer?" This is because there are studies that say it does and studies that say it doesn't, for example a UCLA study done in 2006 with over 2,200 participants said it does not cause cancer.
"The same can be said for all legal prescription drugs."
Most legal prescription drugs are worse for your health than Marijuana. In 2005, 27,000,000 people were taking anti-depressants. 164,000,000 prescriptions for anti-depressants were written in 2008. 14% of children ages 0-11 are on at least one prescription.
Psycho stimulants like Adderall, painkillers like Oxycontin (prescription heroin) and even shit like Vioxx, cause thousands of deaths every year. Yet Marijuana has a 0 in the death column.

if having red ass eyes makes me an asshole....guilty as charged...but the way I act when stoned is not noticeably different than when I am sober.
"A drug is neither moral nor immoral--it's a chemical compound. The compound itself is not a menace to society until a human being treats it as if consumption bestowed a temporary license to act like an asshole."

i agree that people are wrongfully jailed for this, but prop 19 is not the right answer. rushing in to things never go well. prop 19 put too much control in to the people that have the money and it doesn't free the people in jail already nor does it stop them from going to fed prison or state jail cause you have to buy the legal stuff, and if you do you still get blacklisted by the Feds(you could never work on a fed job, not even be a custodian for a federal building).

The language of the bill makes it most palatable to the squares without compromising too much...I don't think you could draft a better bill that has an actual chance at passing. Lets exonerate the prisoners after we get this done...nothing in the bill justifies keeping it illegal.
