Conservative Radio Host Blames Throat Cancer on Being Gay

Right-wing radio host Michael Savage said in a broadcast this week that being gay is a risk factor for throat cancer, attributing the disease to oral sex between men.

According to Media Matters, he said the following in his Monday broadcast of The Savage Nation:

“Did you hear this? Oral sex between men is bringing about a rise in men's throat cancer, as well as a few other risk factors. Would you like to hear what they are? Would you like to hear this? Oh, that's right, how about marijuana? Oral sex amongst men and marijuana smoking seem to be correlated in the increase of men's throat cancer. It's a horrible type of cancer. Horrible. Just horrible horrible horrible!”

Media Matter reports that ABC News did report on a study that links oral sex to certain cancers, but it does not attribute the disease to gay men. Rather, the study says that certain oral and other head and neck cancers can be caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which can be contracted through oral sex, but happens to be as common in women as it is in men.

      Holy hell... that's funny. Wouldn't that mean that strait women performing oral sex on a man would be at risk for throat cancer as well? Well I guess it makes sense him saying that. I mean, look at him. Does anyone here think that this guy is ever going to get head in the remaining span of his natural life?

      He does have a wife...and he has said that she disagrees with him, but puts up with it anyway (probably for the money) so she probably loves him enough to perform her duties, so to speak.

      That's why his comments are so hateful, it is not just gay men that will get it. HPV (the kinds that don't not cause warts) are hard to detect... many men are carriers and women are more affected with cervical cancer...but I think the study he was talking about shows that HPV can contribute to throat cancer in both genders as well.

      Revoke him of his show? He has a right to say whatever he wants. It's choosing not to listen to him is what we should do.

      If you take away his show you only make him into a martyr for his listeners. And then you make his backers look 'sensitive' for giving into the public pressure this once, despite years of this kind of rhetoric from him. So they still make their money back two fold.

      You mistakenly refer to him as a "'Hate' radio monger". I listened to him for years and the only hatred I heard was what liberals were doing to this country not hatred at anyone. You guys mistakenly, or on purpose,attribute any thought contrary to your own as "hatred". Like the boy who cried wolf and the "racist" label I usually gloss over key emotion words like "hate speech", "hater" and "racist". They are usually wrong at best and an outright lie at the worst, detract from the issues and are generally used to prop up an argument that is inherently weak.

      I read his interview in playboy...he says he doesn't hate gays, but he sure does say a lot of shitty things about them...his arguments have more holes than swiss cheese and I suspect he probably does not really believe what he says because his arguments are so weak.       You hate gay people, you hate atheists, you hate Hispanics, you hate non-Christians of any kind.

      No, we do not consider different opinions to be hatred.
      We consider opinions about other groups of people being inferior to be hatred.

      We don't gloss over hatred as simply being "a different opinion" like you do.

      Here is the argument against hatred that you think is weak:

      We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.

      ... now go off on a tangent about "creator" and avoid the topic of human rights and equality.
