Democrats go trick-or-treating as Libertarians

In Colorado, Indiana, Illinois, and Maryland, Democrats have spent money on mailers and other printed items to inform voters about Libertarian candidates.

Libertarian Party (LP) Executive Director Wes Benedict said, "We're pleased to see Democrats spending their own money to promote Libertarian candidates. We hope Republicans will start doing the same thing soon."

The ads have featured Libertarians Mike Labno, running for U.S. Senate in Illinois; Richard Davis, running for U.S. House in Maryland; Greg Knott, running for U.S. House in Indiana; and Gregory Gilman, running for U.S. House in Colorado.

Benedict continued, "Some of the Democratic Party funded ads have pointed out that Libertarians want to cut government spending and end programs that aren't authorized by the Constitution. Thank you, Democrats!

"The Democrats are obviously hoping to turn Republican voters into Libertarians. Their trick might turn out to be our treat.

"If the Republicans are smart, they might try a similar tactic. For example, Republicans could inform liberal voters that Libertarians want to end foreign wars and close foreign military bases; end the War on Drugs; reform immigration policy to make legal immigration easier; and we want the government to show equal treatment to homosexuals.

"Maybe Democrats and Republicans could have a contest to see who can promote Libertarians the most.

"During election season, Republicans and Democrats invent lots of ghosts and goblins to scare voters. Voters should remember that Halloween is just make-believe, put the fear-mongering aside, and vote Libertarian on November 2."

    • They can't go as Democrats, because that already scares the hell out of Americans !!! It really depends on what day it is as to what they go as. They can't seem to decide what they are or what they stand for. They sure don't stand for what the AMERICAN PUBLIC wants, they have proved that over and over again. All they can do is call Americans every name in the book. The good thing is Americans are getting smart to their BS and leaving them in droves. So just keep doing what your doing, go as you are it's working !!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess that it what you get paid for , but , really , go play somewhere else , or learn to really play . You act , now , as a bully . It garners you negative support , personally and politically .       What YOU post certainly is . This is not fertile ground for dialogue , since you do not actually consider , even insult , any other view . I had not realized how dangerously radical libertarians were getting , until you started this . I foresee you will get ever more extreme and finally militant , like any other failed dogma . What good libertarians could have done will be wiped out , replaced by an ugly and embarrassing footnote in political history .

      This is not the kind of treat i like to find on current.
      These posts are always a trick to expose the Current community to the Campaign messaging of a political party.

      Reading Shanklins Politically moivted drivel is like biting into black licorish.
      If i liked black licorish i would go trick-or-treating at Mike Shanklin's
      POLITICAL CONSULTING FIRM or listen to his Radio show or watch him on FOX News.

      And to all you empty accounts who only come to our community to help this well paid Political Activist get free ad space for his party,

      It is a myth that libertarians take away votes from Republicans. Studies have shown that they are about equal.

      But I have no problem with Dems promoting libertarianism. Please, by all means, keep supporting the party of true freedom.

    • I really doubt Democrats would spend much time fucking around with Libertarians, the least prominent third party in the country.

      And since they weren't spreading lies or apparently saying anything that pisses Libertarians off, you should probably be thankful.

      Maybe you'll get 0.02% of the vote instead 0.01% in those states this year.

      Hell, you could probably take all the LP voters out for a subway dinner with what's left of your campaign funds.

    • "Believes the government's powers are limited to those specifically mentioned in the Constitution" *sarcasm* Oh no!! *sarcasm* Maryland is one of the most blue in the country though. So I doubt converting every republican to Libertarian will make a difference. Hopefully some democrats will change their mind.
