    • Why is someones sexual preference big news? They aren't trendsetters or breaking some new ground by saying they are gay.

      I couldn't care less if someones gay, let alone make it national news.

      A lot of people live fake lives. Some people live fake lives around strict parents. Some people live fake lives around racist parents. Everyone has their problems.

      I actually think making a useless item that nobody cares about national news perpetuates the hatred by keeping it at the forefront.

      Act like you belong, instead of some outcast, and realize that nobody cares who you are attracted to.

      But that's not true, people do care who you are attracted to. That's why there are groups that oppose gay marriage and call gay people abominations. That's why gay youth are subjected to so much more bullying that straight youth, because they are made into outcasts, they are made to feel like they don't belong.

      Societal homophobia is still a big issue, and each little story like this (what you call a "useless item") add to the full picture of the struggles that LGBT people go through in society and the social progression that has occurred, and still needs to. These stories are meant to raise awareness and compassion in people so they understand just how hard it is to be gay in the world as it is now, and hopefully lead to them making an effort to be more accepting and help solve the problem.

    • hell, I knew she was lesbian. This is hardly news. It has been known for years.
      She came out as lesbian when she was acting in Ali McBeal.

    • I love her so much! I completely see where she is coming from, its almost the same story with me "Its fine with me, just don't tell anyone" I have been out for 7 years now and up until recently i felt almost ashed to tell other family members because my parents said "Don't put them through that, they wouldn't understand" and i have always thought you don't know you you are putting me through. My parents still suck when it comes to that but I keep telling myself don't be ashed its natural and if your family cant accept it then maybe they are not really your family. Needless to say im gonna make sure its one big gay thanksgiving and make it official this year.

    • woo! I was so happy when Portia came out, at the time she seemed to be the only gorgeous feminine lesbian around. Times have perked up now for lesbians, but she was still one of the first.
