Unpatriotic Calif. School Orders Boy to Remove American Flag From Bike

congoboy
Cody Alicea, 13, likes to fly a small American flag on his bike in honor of veterans such as his grandfather, Robert. He’s been doing it for two months. But now, the school he attends has ordered him to remove the flag citing “racial tensions.”

“In this country we’re supposed to be free,” said Cody, who attends Denair Middle School near Sacramento, CA. “And I should be able to wave my flag wherever I want to. And they‘re telling me I can’t.”http://www.theblaze.com/stories/calif-school-orders-boy-to-remove-american-flag-...

    • Something about the article makes me question the veracity of some of the quotes...that Hispanic superintendent sounds like a total fucking moron. Did Denair Unified School District Superintendent Edward Parraz really say that?

“Our Hispanic, you know, kids will, you know, bring their Mexican flags and they’ll display it, and then of course the kids would do the American flag situation, and it does cause kind of a racial tension which we don’t really want,” Parraz said. “We want them to appreciate the cultures.”

How fucked up can you get? To say that for an American citizen to fly his own flag in his own country should be discouraged because it upsets the Mexicans who, by the way, fly THEIR flag in OUR country?! And WE should "appreciate the cultures"?

Fuck you, Parraz. Ignorant prick. Do any of you have ANY idea what would happen if you flew American flags in mexico and then told the Mexicans they couldn't fly their flag because it was "offensive"?!

I've spent enough time in Mexico to know that they would not tolerate that bullshit for one pinche segundo.

The false notion that the Battle Flag must be a racist symbol is born of the mistaken belief that the Civil War was about slavery. This bit of propaganda has been repeated ever since President Lincoln and his political allies decided to “free the slaves” (in actuality Lincoln only freed those slaves in the Confederacy, slaves in Union states such as Maryland and West Virginia remained slaves). The truth, however, is plain to anyone who wishes to delve into the history, and the proof lies in the proposed Corwin Amendment of 1861. This amendment was proposed by Congressman Thomas Corwin (R) from Ohio and stated...No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.http://12angrymen.wordpress.com/2007/05/01/the-true-meaning-of-the-confederate-f...

yup, there was a time not too many years ago when schools in america held christmas parties and also did the santa thing kind of a mix, like a labradoodle. no one complained or gave it a second thought. the country was more of a national community back then. even as a jewish kid growin up i wasnt offended by this, as long as i got to share in some of the sweets and cake! the country had its problems but as a whole we were more unified. then the kids who grew up in the 60's got some kind of big chip on their shoulders many became atheistic, leftist, pimply faced lawyers with nothing better to do than change american traditions they didnt like, like takin the word of god out of or off of everything or attempting to remove crosses and stars of david off of war memorials and grave stones. you know the minority rule syndrome? now of course there were and still are injustices in this country that need attention and rectifying. if folks would pay attention to the real problems and issues affecting america instead of making them up or dwelling on injustices that only exist in the mind of a few, some of whom make pretty good money off of perpetuating these myths we'd be in much better shape and probably more unifies once again.

I'll take a second and explain it.

Way back, Spain had claimed all of the land that is now California (and other states) as part of Nueva España, Then the colonists there rebelled and formed the "United States of Mexico", and for about 20+ years, Mexico included those states. They had a dictator by the name of Santa Ana whose policies caused open rebellion across Mexico and a bunch of Americans who had moved to the Texas area also rebelled. They were the ONLY rebels to succeed. They captured Santa Ana and should have executed him, but got him to agree to leave them alone, and let him go. He went back on his word, and was preparing to attack them. So the Texicans requested and were granted Statehood in the USA. Santa Ana continued to be belligerant and war broke out between the USA and Mexico. Mexico lost.

Mexico then had problems with a fellow named Maximillian, who took over with the help of Napoleon, and they rebelled and beat him, but of course they ended up deeply in debt due to the war. They sold the California territory to the USA to pay off their debts. And that's how we got our Western states.

In Mexico, they teach that the USA "stole" all that land. They also teach that they shold still have rights to that land, and that parts of it were the Aztec "holy land", Aztlan.

Now, there is no people in Latin America that is more Nationalistic than the Mexicans. No matter how bad things are there, they love their country. Good on 'em, I say.

But, when the Mexicans immigrate here, they bring a couple of notions with them. First, their intense national pride. SEcond, an inculcated resentment against the USA for "stealing their land", and third, local Hispanic groups have used propaganda to try to fan tensions over ethnicity and nationality, and to gain enough power that they can eliminate our immigration policies so as many Mexicans (and other nationalities) can move in as they want. Afterall, "they should own that land" is the mentality.

Which is why they make a big deal out of their 5 de Mayo celebration (which in Mexico is NOT a celebration, but a commemoration of the battle in Puebla when they defeated Maximillian's/Napoleon's army). The Mexicans in the USA have turned that day into something else, and they make a point of flying their flags and having cultural celebrations.

No problem with that, good on 'em. But some AMerican kids wanted to show their pride on the same day and it turned into a major conflict. The Mexican kids started to threaten violence and marches and riots, whatever. So now in California, the schools are super senstitive to the idea that a white kid flying an America flag is somehow "offensive" to the Mexicans.

really ironic, because the Mexican Americans I encountered (Veterans Day) in Austin and San Antonio are some of the most patriotic Americans in this nation, and they represent a disproportionate share of the military troops, on the ground, fighting this nation's never ending, empire-building battles. But nice history lesson curtis, well done.

dude, leave the Mexican Americans out of this. this is an issue that is being caused primarily by Mexican immigrants who are being encouraged to stir up trouble. I do not believe the majority of our Chicanos want them doing this crap.

You are right, Joe, I agree. The problem is among the immigrant communities, not our Mexican Americans (Chicanos), although sure there are some far left Chicanos who are stirring up trouble, but they are not representative of Chicanos as a whole, not by a long shot.

I live in NYC and we see Mexican and Puerto Rican flags all the time and no one cares. Apparently people in California need to lighten the fuck up. It is a piece of fabric with a design. As long as people still have to have controversy about shit as dumb as this, Americans will never amount to anything great.

could be, if they took their cue from you. fuck i cant believe how you always attempt to find flaws in any story that involves patriotism and the freedom and rights of americans when their opinions differ from your own. the boy has a right. if it had been a rainbow flag or a flag of some other nationality no one would have had the balls to challenge it.

Don't get your panties in a bunch, congo. :*

It is a valid question about Fox news possibly inciting racial tension. I am with you on the outrageousness of this action. There is no reason that I can understand for this boy to be forbidden to fly his American Flag from his bike on school property. If it is a "racial" problem, it is probably one that has been fabricated by the school administration.

well not living in sac town i wouldnt know for sure. but im sure we can agree that racism does occasionally lift its ugly head. and it doesnt take a school district or a news organization to fabricate it. im glad to see the boy has your blessing though. btw, i like my panties in a bunch!

The unfortunate reality is that much racism is incited with the slightest provocation by people that have a reason to prolong this distraction. I am not saying racism doesn't exist, but many times things are labelled as racist not because they actually are, but because it gets ratings

has it ever occured to you, retread, that there are political reasons why some hispanic groups (such as MeCha and La Raza) want to exacerbate racial tensions, and it's NOT Fox? The boy didn't start anything, the Hispanic super intendent is the one that did.

Then the matter needs to be taken up with the superintendent. I am glad people are riding in support with the kid, but one superintendent's problem with this should not be treated like a bias incident. Dumb rule, dumb superintendent. The report seems to be rallying the troops of racists on both sides instead of just getting to a simple silly issue of a bad decision by a school official.

i know right? but when you get a group of folks who are ultra liberal led by an ultra liberal union in an ultra liberal state like california what can you expect? had the kid been muslim flying an iranian flag or a mexican child flying mexico's colors there wouldn't have been a peep.
