13-year-old Cody Alicea made national headlines recently when school officials at Denair Middle School ordered him to take down the American flag on the back of his bike while he was on school property. Apparently "some students" had been complaining about the flag. Cody had just been trying to honor military veterans such as his grandfather Robert. Well, it turns out that Cody's story struck a major chord with veterans across the United States. As Cody rode his bike to school on Monday, he was accompanied by hundreds of other bikes and motorcycles. After arriving at Denair Middle School, Cody and his patriotic escort recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.

    • why are schools to intent on catering to the whims of ignorant children? and does this school not force their kids to recite the pledge of allegence as my schools have?

    • I've had some BS policies in my school and I deal with it and many other schools like this one do to. I don't see the big deal not being able to wave the U.S flag. Call me unpatriotic if you like but that school has every right to do what it did and its just a fact of life. Also, just deal with it and when you go to college, it will be a million times better.

"that school has every right to do what it did"

Actually the school had no right to do what it did. It's completely unconstitutional. You notice the school soon changed their policy, allowing student to put the flag on his bike.

Because If they didn't, they would be hit with a hefty lawsuit, and a judicial order smacking down their policy for violating the student's first amendment rights.

Its just a small flag made in china and nothing else. Schools are allowed to say that you can't bring item A or item B. Anyways, my biggest problem is that it is a stupid policy but they have a right to do it and my other problem was the huge pointless display of protest over it. If he wanted to sue then fine but I bet it was because of the hells angels riding into town that changed the mind of the principle.

    • That's great that people showed him some support. I just don't get why anyone would mind, it's not like the flag is inappropriate.

    • Awesome. That's just sickening they'd tell him to take it down. The administrators & the kids who complained need someone to remind them what country they're in. Wish I could've gone for the ride too
