Gutsy piece. This couldn't have been easy to write. Thought-provoking, too. A LOT thought-provoking.

    • This is an awful article. When will people stop thinking about someone's race instead of someone's character? Of course you shouldn't vote for Obama just because he's black and you shouldn't vote against him just because he's black.
I remember during the primaries a friend of mine saying "why wouldn't all black people vote for Obama?" People's opinions aren't chosen by their race. With that line of logic I would have voted for Hillary in the primaries just because she's a woman like me. Instead I looked at the record of each candidate, watched the debates, did some research and then made a decision to vote for Obama. (I actually have always liked Kucinich a lot more, but I knew he didn't really have a shot.)
It did make it extra special when Obama was elected that he is the first black president and it is a step in the right direction in terms of civil rights and inequality, but that shouldn't be anyone's primary reason for voting for him. If that were true, shouldn't I vote for Sarah Palin because we need a woman president? No folks, it's not that easy. Having Palin in the white house would be a giant leap in the wrong direction for feminism because every time she opens her mouth she makes our gender look bad.

    • I wouldn't have in the primaries, but then again I didn't vote for him in the primaries. However, since he won the primaries and was the democratic candidate I voted for him and would have done so regardless of his skin color. And since no third party candidate ever gets decent enough election coverage to be well enough known to have a snowballs chance in hell.

Hillary won the primaries. She won more states, she won bigger states, she got more primary votes. All he won was smaller states, caucuses, and superdelegates, which he bought with political donations to their campaigns from his PAC. She won New York, she won California, should would be President right now if not for the DNC interfering on his behalf. She won Texas, then they put in a caucus at the last minute, so Texas has a primary AND a caucus, and he gets more delegates out of the state. They assigned Hawaii more delegates in the middle of the primaries because they knew he would win it. They threw out the primaries of Florida and Michigan on a technicality both of which she won. It was a total railroading. The DNC picked Obama, not the Democratic voters.

Hindsight being 20-20, I wasn't too thrilled with getting Hilary in. Not because I thought she'd be a bad president, but because she pissed the Republican party off something fierce during the watergate hearings. It is very arguable that Bill took a lot more heat than was reasonable from the Republicans during "zippergate" because it was the easiest way for the Republicans to strike back at Hilary. And I don't think that the Republican thirst for Hilary's political blood is done yet. As much as the Republicans have been resisting or metaphorically cock blocking Obama, I think that it would be dwarfed by any effort they would have put into it if Hilary had gotten into office.

Personally, I think I would have been happier voting for Hilary, but I know some people that would have had a freaking aneurism had she gotten elected president.

    • Well, I know it was not a factor for me.

When Jessee Jackson ran for president I in no way supported him, even though he was a democrat and black.

I preferred Hillary Clinton, not because she was female but because she would be a continuation of the successful Clinton administration.

And I can't stand Sarah Palin not because she is female, but because she is a moron.

Obama being black is just a bit of added gravy, because I know how much it completely ticks off the right wing. :)

First off, show me anything that I said that in any way, shape or form prompted that question.

Second, do you remember Hillary Clinton's negative campaign against Obama, filled with racist attacks?

Do you remember all of the racist attacks against Obama from the McCain campaign?

Do you remember just last month all of the racist attacks against Obama from the Tea Party?

And do you EVER think before you post?
