Rockefeller Wants Government to Shut Down Fox and MSNBC

this is really good, but more news then those two should be included. however, this is the first step.

Why is CNN hardly included in any of this talk?

Biased news has been going on far too long!!! As have the so called "Reality " TV shows!!! Yeah...They do ,by current US law,actually have the rights to exist,but that doesn't make them right in any way shape or form!!! We SHOULD take them off TV & we SHOULD kick Palin out of the US,BUT...That's just not happening sadly!!! *sigh*

The internet is "Evil" because of places like WikiLeaks...which provides accurate, no biased information, about things the government probably doesn't want you to know about.
It's also a place where the "estiblishment" has not true hold. I.e. No government, or company which provides me access, can censor the words that I type.
It's democracy and freedom at it's best.

But I guess that makes it "evil".

Wrong again, Rocky! If you're going to have FOX and MSNBC censored, you need to get rid of ALL of them! No news is good news! But what you mean by "quality tv" is NOT what I view as "quality tv!" I disagree with Senator Rockefeller completely..I feel that Fox is more of a tabloid organization and should be exposed, for broadcasting deceptive, racist, and misleading information...On the other hand, MSNBC demonstrates journalistic integrity by airing factual, researched, and well documented stories..MSNBC offers a variety of programing that is unbiased, however they have commentators that appeal to people on the left,and on the right.. Fox is a division of the Republican Party..MSNBC is a legitimate news organization, while Fox is tabloid dressed up as news..

Bottom line is that this guy is against FREE SPEECH. If left up to him he'd render the constitution obsolete and stomp all over our inalienable rights.

I do think the government should mandate FOX remove the label "fair and balanced" as false advertising. But other than that, they are free to spew whatever crap and lies they want, unfortunately.

Perhaps the government can regulate the definition of the word "News" so they would have to call themselves something else, like "FOX Talk" or "FOX Rants".

It is the companies freedom of speech to say whatever they want on their network. Instead of "shutting them down", we just need to prevent them from advertising as "News". Afterall, isn't false advertising a crime? Especially when it is blatently un"fair and balanced".

I love it when people just say "well, people just need to stop watching". Way to state the obvious. Also, it is ignoring the rules of behaviorism. Unfortunately, behaviorism in the field of psychology has become the red-headed, step-child, yet it can easily explain why society is so sick. Americans have been brainwashed to not be alarmed by their news sources. The problem can never be fixed, until sympathy is shown towards those who have not been enlightened on their behavioral programming are shown the mechanism they are sucked into. Rockefeller is just creating the illusion that someone in Washington is on this. The elites are probably chuckling about having Rockefeller be the "lone voice" against the "evil, corporate media".

I could care less about either network. All I want to hear is news and just fucking news. I could care less about the opinion of the reporter and all I want is simply unbias reporting and what not. I say let us implement the Fairness Doctrine and bring back real news.

I thought a little more about my idea to charge fines to news organizations that willfully misinform. If there was a minor fine per instance, I was thinking that Fox News alone could close the budget deficit within about a month. This is an idea that the FCC should really look into.

How about bringing back FCC ownership rules?

Im perfectly fine with the Government taking over corporations that knowingly harm this country (as was clearly evident in the economic crisis). The government is the people. Corporate news has been able to get this idea in everyones head that government isnt the people...even though we elect whos in charge unlike Walmart and Shell who we have no part in. HOWEVER News is a different story, it shouldnt be censored. So please dont try and spew right wing bullshit by saying liberals want to take over the world with the government. We are very much against it just as anyone who belongs to a minority political ideology should be. You would think the Right and Left wing would unite on thise issue but I guess not.

As much as i do not like Fox news at all, is it needed. Ying and Yang.
However! Programs that are opinion that disguise themselves as news should be taken off or have restrictions. I want a country of un basis news where everyone is given the facts, and the opinion is up to the viewer not the host.

Is there a schism between Jay and David? Because this is a very odd statement from a Rockefeller. Anyone who doesn't see that FOX, CNN, and MSNBC are just corporate tools for pitting the electorate against each other is just not paying attention to what is right in all of our faces. Sorry, but I don't like a Rockefeller being the one sounding the alarm bells on this. Feels like an attempt to fool those of us who see FOX, CNN, and NBC for what they are, that politicians in Washington are actually on this. If Obama lied to me about respecting the constitution more than G-dubs did, why would I put my faith in a Rockafeller?

Our saviors our not in Washington or on TV, but each other. The politicians who can save us have yet to be elected. Those, liberal or conservative, who will refuse corporate funds and see politics not as a career, but rather a civic honor.

We must protect net neutrality with great vigilance, educate one-another via the net and turn off Fox, CNN, MSNB, etc.

We need to truly look into what legislation our elected official pass, and fire those who side with corporate interests.

Senator Jay Rockefeller is right. MSNBC and Fox should be shut down. These networks distort the message from the white house and disrupt communication flow. And they polarize and divide the country. Time to take away their broadcasting licenses.

anyone with half a brain recognizes that every so called news outfit has a bias and an agenda slanted one way or another. it isnt right/left its profitability. the way the system is now, the only way to get the honest story is to either eyeball the events yourself or sift through the millions of outlets each reporting on everything and decide what you want to believe

I think Sen. Rockefeller's presentation was clumsy & ill advised, but I (as a self-described progressive), do agree that both Fox news and MSNBC are dumbing down the level of political debate which, IMHO, thereby undermines our democracy. I don't expect much enlightenment from Fox, but MSNBC really upsets me because they could be educating their viewers to what is really happening to their government, and they are not, because some of their commentators are polarized people who negate any possibility of engaging independent voters. Maybe they are just taking orders from their corporate execs who just want increased viewership and don't care if that means just broadcasting a lot of crap that draws viewers. For example why don't they challenge the lack of common sense in the tea party rhetoric that just rails about big government without any factual content? Why have we witnessed such an increase in recent years of contaminated food, dangerous or ineffective drugs, faulty and dangerous products for children (cribs, toys, strollers), unchecked deceit by mortgage lenders, investment abuses on Wall St., uninspected and unsafe workplaces (including coal mines), anti-freeze in your toothpaste, courtesy of the Chinese who chided us b/c we're not really supposed to swallow toothpaste, so if we ingest antifreeze, it's our fault. Those communists sound just like capitalist corporate execs. Arrogance and unchecked power in both cases. It's common sense that protecting the American people applies to the above threats as much as it applies to military threats. Years of Bush Administration has led to the underfunding of the government agencies that were instituted (by both parties) to protect us.
