The Two-Party Oligarchy Vs. The People

GLOBALPOLITICAL
Watching Democrats complain about Republicans and Republicans complain about Democrats is like watching two Neanderthals throw rocks at each other while a pack of lions surround them.
Dear Independent Media, Stop Contributing to Our Demise, It’s Time to Evolve!
Independent news sites are excellent sources for in-depth information on many vital political issues. Most of them work hard to get the facts right and provide much needed context to move our national debate forward. However, they have a fatal flaw. There is a rule of war that many Independent media outlets are failing to understand: “Do not fight the last war.”
In The 33 Strategies of War, Robert Greene calls this “The Guerrilla-War-Of-The-Mind Strategy.”
“What most often weighs you down and brings you misery is the past, in the form of unnecessary attachments, repetitions of tired formulas, and the memory of old victories and defeats. You must consciously wage war against the past and force yourself to react to the present moment. Be ruthless on yourself; do not repeat the same tired methods.”
When Progressive news sites complain about Republicans, or Conservative sites complain about Democrats, I can’t help but think that they are insuring their own demise, and the rest of the country’s for that matter. By buying into the Democrat versus Republican charade they have become the most important cog in suppressing any organized resistance.
Based on personal experience, I understand how difficult it is for Independent news organizations to obtain funding. Unfortunately, most of the more popular “Independent” news sites survive by getting grants and donations from foundations and political organizations that will only fund them if they engage in partisan politics.
However, they need to ask themselves a serious question: Are you doing this work to just collect a paycheck, and thereby maintain the very status quo that you appear to be against, or are you doing this to actually change the dire situation we find ourselves in?
Given your deep understanding of current political issues, I find it incredibly hard to believe that you don’t see how global corporate interests have completely bought off both political parties.
How betrayed do you have to be before you realize that both parties are against you?
Our country has been robbed. Our future prospects are bleak. Trillions of dollars have been looted from the economy and no one in our government is holding the thieves accountable - Obama is not, the Democrats are not and the Republicans are not. They are all pivotal accomplices in the continued rape of our country. So stop deluding yourself into believing that only the opposing party is to blame. Focusing on one party as the source of our problems is journalistically lazy and intellectually naïve. Dig deeper! Follow the money. Focus on the people who fund both parties.
The Two-Party Oligarchy Vs. The People
Our current economic crisis has proven that the Democrat versus Republican dynamic is obsolete, the only thing that matters now is us versus them. When I say “us,” I mean 99% of the US population. When I say “them,” I mean the ruling class. The ruling class includes Republicans, Democrats, and more importantly, the people and corporations who fund them. That is the dividing line. Adhere to it. Otherwise you are playing into their divide-and-conquer strategy, and you are complicit in our demise.
The mainstream corporate media continually propagates the rhetoric of division, you don’t need to add to it. We are all on this sinking ship together and we don’t have much time left to turn things around. So let’s drop the tired old labels and focus on uniting people, not dividing them.
Every time you want to write the word “Republicans” or “Democrats,” just change it to “the two-party oligarchy.” If you do that, you will gain credibility and influence, and we may actually get some of the change that you claim to want.
Obviously we are going to have strong disagreements on many issues, but there are key issues that we must urgently come together on, or we will all continue our downward spiral.
As famed military strategist Carl von Clauswitz wrote in his study On War, it is pivotal to strike at “the center of gravity,” at “the hub of all power and movement, on which everything depends.” Or as Henry David Thoreau said, “There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.”
Let’s heed their advice and strike at “the center of gravity,” at “the root” of our problems.
Here are the seven key issues that keep 99% of the US population without political representation:
1) The two-party system;
2) Campaign finance;
3) Lobbying;
4) The revolving door;
5) The concentration of media ownership;
6) The big banks;
7) The rule of law does not apply to the richest one-tenth of one percent of the population.

    • These scum in both parties belong to the rich elite, they do not represent the people! All political parties should be banned and those that run for political office would have to run on their own merits only!

    • Why don't we create a third party?
      Maybe call it something like: American's First. or The Citizen's party.
      We could start a grass-roots, public option. Oh...wait. Neo-Cons will call them Socialists. Because the "people" support them. Blah, Blah, Blah.

      Here's my idea anyways:
      We start a 3rd party. Considering that we're essentially helping a great many people by providing them proper representation, maybe we could have the campaign fund under "charity" protection.

      Those who donate to this party get to nominate candidates to run.
      Those with the most nominations for an area and/or seat will be pit against each other to run.
      A Website with the profiles, and information of the candidates will be listed, like a job resume. Pictures will be left out (to keep people for favoring by looks or skin color).
      Donor's will then vote for their favorites based on job qualifications(resume) and goal sets.
      An interview with questions will also be posted, so see how they answer the questions individually. (an IQ test would also be a great addition.)

      Once a candidate for the party is selected, said candidate must sign a legally binding contract not to accept money or favors outside of the funds provided by the party (which would keep out the lobbyist, corporate donors, etc.)
      Once signed, the money pool for the campaign can be used for running in the election.
      If the contract is not signed, the party selection defers to the runner up.

      Any funds not used by the party by the end of the election will be stored for the next election.
      Penalties for breaking the contract will result in automatic suspension, and re-appointment. The donors reserve full right to have another internal election for the seat.

      This gives the people power over their public servants.
      It is true democracy by representation.
      It's publicly funded by donors, so as to keep corruption out of the hands of the elected.
      The elected must adhere to a legally binding contract while running and while in office.

      Goals the politicians set are their own.
      We leave it open so that we can get a greater diversity of good people.

      In any give State:
      One term we may want someone focused on jobs, someone who wants less oversight, and more freedom, someone who wants more protection and financial regulations, someone who wants more protections on benefits, or someone who wants to cut spending or increase luxury taxes, etc.
      In the next term, we may want something else.
      It keeps things flexible so that we can get the best people for the job.

      We leave it open, and let the majority decide.

      This is where here you might say, "well someone who gives 200,000 will have more influence than someone who gives $10."
      The answer is NO.
      Donate as much as you like, or as little.
      A donation gets you a vote. The amount is up to you.
      It only buys one vote.
      Corporate, union, etc, donations will not be allowed.
      It will be on individuals only.

      *Personally. I think it's a great idea.
      *Now if only we could keep corporations from donating to everyone else.
      Not blaming anyone *cough* Roberts *Cough* Supreme Court *cough *cough*.

      This guy want's to "Trojan Horse" the two party system , to sneak in our own candidates behind enemy lines. -But then how is the public to know whom to choose?
      -And if the public knows, then they would also be able to tell, and find ways of keeping them away from getting party nomination.

      While it's a good idea, it's flawed on many levels.

      My idea only lacks one thing: Support.
      The only way my idea can be accomplished is if the majority is behind it.
      More than 40% of all voters.

      ...Or we can just do nothing, and wait until things are like Greece. Then people will riot and revolt.
      -The other thing we could try, is to unite with those countries suffering like our own, and start a Robin Hood coalition.

      When/If that happens, I will do my duty as a humanitarian to ease the suffering of the many, from the pockets of the rich few. I think God would forgive me for breaking that commandment, under those circumstances. If not, then he is not God, and I have nothing to worry about.

    • Great post, it's absolutely true.

      It's easy to control people when they're given an illusion of "freedom of choice" by choosing between two hands of the same monster.

    • Excellent post... I expected more comments due to the fact that the majority of people on this site blame everything on right or left. Some are so emotionally attached to one party or the other that they can't see or grasp any other logical reason for the problems we are having..... Here's a simple video that breaks it down very nicely.... enjoy!

    • I agree totally with this. The Democrats swung way too far left, they over reached, so they got voted out. That happened to the Republicans in 2006 when they had swung too far right, and it will happen to them again in the future. Both parties start from the far exteme and then try to move to the center enough to get elected. There is no party for those of us in the middle, the centrists, that's why every election is the lessor of two evils. No I don't want the far right ideologue Bush, no I don't want the far left ideologue Obama. This country is in desperate need of a third party, in fact a fourth and a fifth, for that matter.

      There has to be some kind of middle for both parties to get real diolage going. Come On "purity tests in the republican party"? What bullshit is that!! that should be illegal!! they force all people planing to be republican to be put in some stupid cookie cutter agendas. what are we becoming? are we really doing this? if the democrats did that somone would sue, saying "they are trying to pressure me to to go against my will and the people's will (well... they did vote for him)!" So what is going to happen next. are dems right behind them?

    • Robotic091:

      I haven't heard of that, but I can easily believe it. In the middle of the health care vote debate there were calls from progressives to get rid of conservative "blue dog" democrats opposing it. And I can remember in 2004 a call to get rid of so called RINOs. Well, they got rid of them alright. That's the real shame, moderates of both parties get voted out because they are in swing districts where people have opinions on both sides. The ones in hard core red or blue districts don't have to worry about what they vote for. So we end up with a House full of extremes.
