One thing that the director and WikiLeaks founder have in common is that they have both had internationally valid warrants issued against them for alleged sex crimes, but there's also the questionable nature of the support they get.
Here is the news. Julian Assange, a 39 year-old Australian journalist, publisher and Internet activist who is best known for his role as founder of the whistle-blowing site Wikileaks is currently being held without bail in Wandsworth jail, London England after being arrested under the terms of an international arrest and extradition warrant on suspicion of rape and sexual assault alleged to have been committed in Sweden. He claims to be innocent and says that the charges have been fabricated by those responsible for a plot to destroy him.
Those are the facts, but because he is a controversial personality who is very much in the public eye, public perceptions of the nature of the proceedings against him do not permit reasoned attitudes to prevail. There are those who are ‘for’ and ‘against’ his extradition.

This story is incorrect. Polanski's warrant was not issued for alleged sex crimes. His warrant was issued because he absconded after having already admitted, and plead guilty to a sexual assault of a minor in California.
Assange's crimes, at this point are still alleged.
