Wikileaks Threatens America's Imperial Ambitions - Release of Docs Cuts Them Down to Size

Could it be that these documents are going to cut short America's Imperial Ambitions as the public in other countries begin to see that America is about corporate corruption and money and greed and projection of power, America will loose a major part of their credibility and ability to project that power...even though they have such massive military spending in comparison to the other state actors in the world. The pressure exerted by America seeking to remain the world's sole hegemonic power is that it forces all the allies to consider teaming up to form another alliance.
The whole secrecy of international policy or foreign policy in the US is what propels the corruption of corporate power and for a long time it has served as a way for the US to brand "America" like a product and sell the "idea" to the people of the world that it is the "shinning city on the hill that will bring justice to mankind....etc", but people weigh this in their minds against what they actually see what America does and now the revelations of corporate influence in the wars in Africa, its amazing that people can't see that Wikileaks serves a higher purpose, regardless of what you think about the media image of Julian Assange.
This information that gets released can serve as a great equalizer and ensure that no one country has the power to dominate the entire world, for such to allow such a power to exist threatens the entire human race. We know for a fact that most of these government "professional managers" are there to fill their own pockets and that corruption is at the highest levels and trickles down all the way to its underbelly. Most average people who get their information from Mainstream Media Outlets don't get the real story but the censored story that makes America always look like the hero of the story, regardless of the scandal that surrounds individuals that get caught doing the dirty work.

The wiki revelations are taking over the job the fourth estate was always intended to do, uncover the corruption and blow the whistle. But once the fourth estate became all about profit, then the master it served changed, from the people to the stockholders.
I would be interested to hear about what you think about these ideas...

Great post. I watch RT news from time to time. But Putin isn't saying that Russia approves of Wikilieaks. He's saying that the great critic of world, the great proselytizer of democratic principle, should be more careful about swerving dangerously to the right while leaving a wheel or two on the left. It's also called hypocrisy. But every hypocrite sees himself, sometimes even with an apology, as a pragmatist.
I think we need both types, absolutists and pragmatists, which is why I very much hope that Wikileaks and/or its mirror operations never disappear completely.
As part of the audience, the tension created by Wikileaks will catalyse thought and reconsideration, It's not the job of the audience to approve of how information is structured and delimited. The audience should always want more.

In case you suffering under the delusion that Wikileaks is somehow not part of the 4th Estate, the London Guardian and NY Times were given preferred access to Wikileaks' data base by Assange, which in turn they used to spin stories in a way that was beneficial to the pro-war establishment.

It is not "The London Guardian" but "The Guardian" which was given preferred access to Wikileaks' data base, and "The Guardian" has never spun a story in any way that was beneficial to the pro-war establishment, quite the contrary.

i think some good can come out of the leaks, although my opinion of julien remains the same. and i totally agree on the fourth estate. it is no longer a public service but a corporate enterprise and propaganda arm of the powers that be

There is an exclusive club of manufacturers and service providers who own our elected representatives, and membership in that club is not open to average Americans. Although U.S. military/industrial complex interests (and the interests of the members of the exclusive club) are harmed by the release of secret documents, the interests of U.S. citizens are well-served when light is shone upon the ways tax monies are used to prop up the private interests of companies whose contributions support selective political candidates. That being said, Vladimir Putin is not someone whose opinion of U.S. foreign or domestic policy should be valued.

Thus far, Putin's opinion and assessments of U.S. foreign and domestic policies have proven to be uncannily accurate, there's no reason to think this might change any time in the future.

Indeed - it is almost as corrupt as the US government, but what does that have to do with what I wrote and with the topic?

Agreed. I openly chuckle at people who state we still live in a democracy. We do not. Our government officials are puppets for large corporations. The SCOTUS ruling by the five conservative members that lifted the cap on corporate campaign donations was a bloodless coup that "American" corporations have been working toward for decades. I love my country, but have lost all faith that it will ever be returned to the people. US corporations have taken our homes, our retirement, affordable health care, what little wealth we had, shipped our jobs overseas, and now they've taken our country. The only way this situation will ever be reversed is by revolution.

Release Mr. Assange from jail and incorporate him in the service of cleaning up the blatant corruption that seeps from the seems of the fabric of global society...
This world needs improved International Laws to keep up with the runaway free market schemes of 'big business' that are stifling the small businesses, so important to the foundation of a strong economy... we need measures to help level the playing field...wikileaks is the initial mechanism to expose the loose ends and rough edges of global political administrations, bringing the evolving issues to the surface for review, instead of obscuring them for the purpose of promoting hidden agendas...

Putin is much maligned in the West, but he is extremely popular in Russia. He has done a great deal of good for Russia and raised millions of people out of misery and poverty - mind you, misery and poverty still exist there, but far less so than before Putin's reforms and actions. Russia is an extremely difficult country to govern - it is by very far the largest country in the world, spanning 9 time zones - on its eastern extremity, it is within sight of the USA (Alaska, which used to be part of Russia but was sold to the USA to pay for its Russian owner's gambling debts). At its western extremity, it lies fully in Europe, geographically speaking, sharing borders with Finland, Norway, Estonia and Latvia. On its northern side, it encircles almost half of the Arctic, and its southernmost point is further south than France's southernmost point. It contains many ethnicities, religions and languages, and has always needed a strong government and leader to maintain its cohesion.
