The petrol giant Shell has thoroughly infiltrated the Nigerian government, newly leaked WikiLeaks documents show. The multinational corporation inserted its employees into every key government ministry to gain unparalleled influence in policy-making in the oil rich Niger Delta. Al Jazeera's Jesse Mesner-Hage reports on how the revelation fits into the decades-long troubled relationship between Royal Dutch Shell and Nigeria.

    • A Heart of Darkness for the 21st century, and a disturbing story that unfortunately most people will ignore. The power of the food energy and water industries will only increase in the coming decades. Whether the technology is irrigation in China along the Yangtze in 500 A.D. or oil and high yield GMO's around the world today, the default decision of most people is to give up freedom in exchange for the next day's provisions. Hydraulic despotism and the despotism justified by the "environment" (and resource scarcity generally) will feel very much the same, I think.

    • This is probably , exactly the same way OUR government is infected by multiple corporations . But Really wikileaks was about to expose the banks . What if , just what if , bank of america KNEW , it had no legal right to foreclose , on people's homes , because it was NOT THE TITLE HOLDER of said homes ? What if , they willingly deliberately , knowingly , STOLE hundreds of thousands of homes ? This is just a suspicion , on my part , but OUR government would HAVE to be complicit in such a thing .

The thing that protects our government is the size. Sure there is corruption on a grand scale, but that only means that 80% of the acting congress knows about it. It seems to me that about 40% of congress is trying to do the right thing. That number is going to drop in January. I watched a great documentary on Wikileaks last night if anyone is interested.
      It is in 4 parts.
