When a state or nation fails to live up to its very basic obligations to the people, it is in breach of contract. It is the right of the people to rise up and replace --by any means --the illegitimate regime. If that sounds radical, I refer you to the words of James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Voltaire! You might also consider the Magna Carta! What the GOP has in mind for the rest of the nation, it has very nearly accomplished in Texas. Under the criminal and incompetent management of George W. Bush and, later, Rick 'Good Hair' Perry, Texas is reduced to third-world status --an outcome resulting from Bush/Perry neglect and overt contempt for public education, the only education that those not born to wealth have any chance of acquiring. The 'elites' would deny you even that!

Texas is called the gulag state for many and good reasons. Justice in Texas is applied inequitably. Minorities --primarily black and hispanic --are disproportionately represented in the Texas gulag system but UNDER represented in the State legislature, the various city councils, and the state judicial system.
For example, blacks represent only 12% of the Texas population but comprise 44% of the total incarcerated population. Whites make up about 58% of Texas' total population, but only 30% of the prison and jail population.
But the GOP does not care about minorities. One wonders if the GOP neglect is 'benign'. I don't think so. At some point, when a vast majority of minorities can be determined statistically to have been 'targeted' the word 'genocide' is appropriate and accurate.

A recent Pew study fingers a trend that had been embraced by Bush's Texas --the rapid outsourcing of prison construction and management throughout the US. Over this period, CRIME RATES HAVE RISEN.
It was Texas under the incompetent rule of then Governor George W. Bush that became known as the gulag state of Texas for having turned a social problem into just another GOP scam, a get rich quick scheme, another way in which GOP blood-suckers feed at the public trough. Convicts are no longer people but a source of cheap, slave labor. Guilt or innocence is of no concern to corporate robber barons. It is an Orwellian nightmare of waste, graft, and fascism in which no one is held to account.

So people who enter the country illegally are being locked up?
They should...they entered the country illegally. They are a financial burden on the government, and tax payers. The extent at which they are held maybe out of line.
Also, I believe that we should make it easier to become a citizen, rather than dodging police for 5 years, or being a land owner for 2.
Not everyone can do that when they first arrive. - 2 years ago

No they didn't. Majority of the tribes where migratory. Some may have stayed somewhat stationary but they didn't conceptualize ownership of land .
Read the Marxist anthropologist Eleanor Burke Leacocks The Montagnais "Hunting Territory" and the Fur Trade.
Property rights and sense of territory were created with the rise of the fur trade with Europeans. The new value of fur creating externalities in hunting. In order to capitalized on the fur trade, a system of property was instituted by marking trees designated hunting territory to belonged to the tribe, thereby internalizing externalities.
So no they were not "illegal" aliens. As there was no law to break.

Well --that's a BULLSHIT rationalization for a start! Your interpretation is TOTALLY screwed-up! The fact is many Native American tribes welcomed the newbies and even assisted them. But that is NOT to be falsely interpreted that THEFT was OK simply because the Native Americans had a more advanced, superior ETHICS and social order.
Many tried to assist the 'newbies' but were totally wiped out for their efforts. That 'assistance' must not be interpreted by the TERMINALLY STUPID for a lack of sense of self or property. They were being good neighbors.
The most notable example of that are the Arawaks. It was Columbus who totally eradicated the entire race in in an act of monumental genocide, an inspiration to both Adolph Hitler and the so-called 'White' Americans who STILL perpetrate genocide against what precious few Native Americans who have survived! Clue: the GENOCIDE and the theft of their lands is still going on.

And --your uninformed and illogical post is a typical 'blame the victim' rationalization typical of the U.S. right wing. It is, in fact, a SYMPTOM of an increasingly psychopathic sub-set of the U.S. population. There are, of course, other symptoms! It was predicted by both Carl Jung, psychologist, and Hanah Arendt who founded the New School in New York. Jung said that some 30 percent of every population is certifiably psychotic and utterly without empathy. Hanah Arendt who covered the Eichmann trial and studied the psychopathic nature of evil.
The defining characteristics of 'evil' are 1) it is banal [See: Arendt] 2) it is always accompanied by an utter lack of empahty [see Carl Jung and Gustav Gilbert] 3) those studied seek some sort of external validation to assuage their increasing anxieties. For example, Republicans adored Ronald Reagan as Nazis adored Hitler. A Republican attending the GOP National Convention in Houston in the early 90s, swooned of Reagan: "he made us feel good about ourselves"! Hitler did the same thing for psychopaths and bigots!

Another point: your statement that most of the tribes were migratory. That is without any basis and, interestingly, you cite no source, no evidence, nor a single authority.
EVEN if they had all been migratory only a psychopath would cite that as a RATIONALIZATION for the crime of genocide. Your comment is wrong and bigoted!
The Mandans, for example, had built large cities from stable populations! The same is true of several western tribes who built permanent CITIES in the American west. The ruins of these impressive cities still exist. I personally visited one and explored it. People still live in it though its construction most certainly pre-dates the arrival of the Spanish. It's called ACOMA and it is literally a city in the sky. Looks like something from a Edgar Rice Burroghs story. I have been there, explored it, met the residents. They have a school, an impressive church dating to the Spanish occupation. And all of this was accomplished with no help whatsoever from 'Europeans'.
Another example of great intellect among the Native Americans is CHIEF JOSEPH BRANT of the Mohawks. He attended Moor's Charity School for Indians in Lebanon, Connecticut, mastered English and translated English works for distribution throughout his community. He read western history and literature, became an interpreter for an Anglican Missionary.
Another famous Native American Chief went to London. On 13 June 1892, the American Sioux Indian Chief, Long Wolf, was buried at Brompton Cemetery.

Even nomadic tribes migrate within a territory they consider to be theirs. Your argument is moot. Territory is not really about ownership of land per se, either, but territory is defended, and those wars between the American Indian nations were overwhelmingly over territory and the control thereof.

In fact, everything that most NON-Texans associate with Texas has been LIBERAL. Willie Nelson is a good example! His big liberal cause was helping farmers. Another verifiable official stat: the number of people incarcerated in Texas (in prison or jail) reached 207,526 in mid-year 1999. Only California, with 10 million more citizens, has more people in both prison and jail. It's only gotten worse since that figure was posted. In the meantime, education has tanked. For CONSERVATIVE GOP DUMBASSES:
"The United States holds the dubious distinction of having the largest incarcerated population in the world, with 2 million people behind bars as of year-end 1999.2 With only 5% of the world's population, the US holds a quarter of the world's prisoners In the 1990s alone, more persons were added to prisons and jails than in any other decade on record.
...
In a continued examination of those states that lead the national trend in increasing levels of incarceration, the Justice Policy Institute turns a focus on the state of Texas. The Lone Star State's criminal justice system is particularly worthy of scrutiny at this time, as the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) reported in August, 2000 that Texas, for the first time, leads the nation in imprisoning its citizens: Texas now has the nation's largest incarcerated population under the jurisdiction of its prison system. Since 1990, Texas has lead the nation's 50 states with an annual average growth rate of 11.8%, about twice the annual average growth rate of other state prison systems (6.1%). Even more important to the national context, since 1990, nearly one in five new prisoners added to the nation's prisons (18%) was in Texas."--An Analysis of Incarceration and Crime Trends in The Lone Star State
The Texas economy in which I grew up is long gone! At the same time, the state has grown more conservative! Go figure! In the meantime, the Houston Ship Channel (last time I drove over to that part of town and took a look) is STILL DIRTY BROWN AND TOXIC. We used to call it SHIT CREEK! It DUMPS that shit into the Gulf of Mexico and has been doing that for decades. BP was met --correctly --with universal outrage and rightly so! TX does the same thing on a lesser scale EVERY DAY! What does the GOP have to say about that?. Clue! Nothing. And that's because the GOP is clueless and OWNED! If the GOP succeeds, it will only inherit a wasteland! Can you say pyrrhic victory! No...I didn't think so. The average GOPPER does not know what pyrrhic means.

Liberals make conservatives look bad by citing the records of every GOP President since 1900! Pathetic! They speak for themselves.
Liberals make conservatives look bad by merely standing beside one. (eeeewwweee)
Liberals make conservatives look bad by not drooling in public.

The economy of Texas is one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the United States. In 2006, Texas was home to six of the top 50 companies on the Fortune 500 list and 46 overall, more than any other state. Texas has an economy that was the second largest in the nation and the 15th largest in the world based on GDP (nominal) figures. As the largest exporter of goods in the United States, Texas currently grosses more than $100 billion a year in trade with other nations.

Spamming the thread does not change the fact that you have YET to address a single statement in the original article. The article that you would like to FOOL people into thinking you have refuted!
You have NOT addressed 1) the point of the article 2) nor have you refuted the many sources upon which it is based.
You started this thread upon a load of utter BS, i.e, you accused the 'author' of knowing nothing about Texas. BUNKUM. How many sessions of the Texas legislature have you sat through? POST ANSWER to that! I CHALLENGE YOU!
Basically --it is time for you to put up or shut up! Cutting and pasting 5, 10, 20 or 100 UTTERLY IRRELEVANT ARTICLES has not 1) proven me wrong 2) has not proven that I am NOT a fourth generation Native Texan; 3) and --most importantly --has NOT EVEN ADDRESSED the fact that the 'regimes' of Bush/Perry established and encouraged what is --in fact --a FASCIST arrangement in which CORPORATE OWNED prisons benefit from the GOP NEGLECT OF EDUCATION in Texas.
The GOP neglect of education is irresponsible if not criminal. Any intelligent can survey the official stats and conclude that there is --in fact --a causal relationship between educational declines and rising crime. As Bush/Perry subverted education, crime rose. The corporate-owned prisons (big contributors to the GOP) loved it! It's called fascism.
If you were anything but a mealy mouthed right wing SHILL, you would have facts and real arguments. Instead, you have nothing but a right wing script!

Texas' economy gained 174,900 jobs from October 2009 to October 2010, an annual growth rate of 1.7 percent. Over the same period, the U.S. economy gained 626,000 jobs, an annual growth rate of 0.5 percent. Texas' private sector continues to play a key role in creating more jobs in Texas. The state's private sector posted an annual employment growth rate of 2.1 percent compared with 0.9 percent for the U.S. private sector from October 2009 to October 2010.

The Texas economy, the world’s 11th-largest, continues to fare better than those of many other states. But Texas felt the effects of the worldwide recession during 2009. The state is emerging from the recession more quickly than the nation, but the pace of recovery is slow.
According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the U.S. economy peaked in December 2007 and entered recession. The Texas economy continued to grow through most of 2008, with employment peaking in August that year, then Texas joined the nation in losing jobs. During 2009, Texas’ gross state product (GSP) declined more slowly than the U.S. economy (-1.4 percent versus -2.4 percent.) - 2 years ago

Again ---nothing you posted changes a thing! You just cut and pasted stuff.
The THESIS (look it up) of the original article is irrefutable and (at least by you) untouchable: education under Bush/Perry beat out even Mississippi for dead last in high school graduations.
As a result, crime soared in TX (see the Dallas Morning News archives) and the prison population swelled! The prisons are owned and operated by PRIVATE CORPORATIONS who contribute LIBERALLY to the GOP.
There is a word for this and the word is: FASCISM!
You have not proved me wrong; you have not even addressed the point! You may be a product of a similarly FAILED EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.

Texas does not blow! Houston has restaurants that match anything in Hollywood! I have had Italian cuisine in Houston that is better than Spagos where I have also dined. The Tex-Mex and Mexican food in L.A. pales beside that of Ninfa's in Houston. And L.A. Freeways are tiny compared to those in Houston. Sorry! Still --I like L.A.
Houston is also home to several World Class Art Museums with masterpieces by many, many masters.
Houston has a world class Opera Company with many FIRSTS to its credit. Prominently, Treemonisha by Scott Joplin. And, as I recall, HGO was the first to stage the full operatic version of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Of course, HGO has also done the more traditional Operatic repertory.

You know, I look at stuff like this that begins "GOP fascism" and mentally turn off. If this guy thinks we are stupid enough to believe the GOP is behind every ill and the Democrat Party are the white knights there must be something in the water in Texas. I hear enough of that b.s. on this site. I wonder how this is different from Dem fascism screwing the entire country. The problem is our government today and the destructive effects of liberalism. This spans both parties. Neither Dem or Repub are immune. I'll take this guy somewhat seriously when he gets off his water carrying soap box.

Paratus, everything on Current turns you off. So I figure we must be doing something right. I doubt the article was posted to please you or those of your ilk. Also, try to get your political and economic systems straight. Socialism, which democrats are often accused of, is the antithesis of fascism which the GOP is often accused (rightfully) of. Can't be both.
The "problem" today is people like you who think they love America when in fact they abhor it's system of government (democracy) as being far too liberal. By their very nature conservatives, such as yourself, are afraid of any change that results in altering the status-quo. This results in conservatives being masters of trying to jam round pegs into square holes i.e. if you can't adapt to change then force everyone adapt to you and what YOU believe. This ties smoothly into the fact that conservatives want to "rule" not govern. Governing means you have to take all views into account and you may be forced to change something you've become comfortable with. Ruling mean everyone does what you say.
In essence Paratus, most conservatives are fundamental cowards who hide behind the powerful delusion that their fear of change is really "patriotism". Newsflash, the real patriots that founded this country, and gave your the right to shoot you mouth off no matter how foolish it sounds, were primarily liberal radicals from New England. that rebelled against their government. You're welcome.

I have forgotten more about TEXAS than you will ever know. A native Texan, two towns in Texas are named for my family --Hart, Texas and Carlisle, Texas. My Grandmother was a Carlisle. Some members of my family were dodging Commanche attacks in far West Texas even before the Rail Road, possibly before Stephen F. Austin colonized the state with 'would-be' SLAVE HOLDERS. Bluntly --there is nothing that you can tell me about Texas that I have not already covered as a broadcast reporter (HOUSTON, TX) throughout a long career dating back to my high school days. There is a good chance that what YOU think you know, I might have helped write or research. Comprende?
Now --if I want to write an article critical of the CARPETBAGGERS and newbies, I will damn well do so and will not bother to get the permission of idiots, i.e. YOU!
Secondly, everything in the article is sourced. The STATS cited are official govt stats. And the GOP NEGLECT if not WAR on education is quantifiable, easily verified with test scores and appropriate averages --all of which are in the public record and beyond debate.
I don't care how you 'characterize' or spin (that's what defines the term 'wingnut') FACTS are FACTS and the FACT of the matter is the BUSH/PERRY regimes did not merely neglect education, they MILITATED against it. It is verifiable that the corporate owned prisons have benefited from the state's criminal NEGLECT of education. It is ALSO a fact that Texas is often called the GULAG state by those who know and understand that the BUSH/PERRY neglect of education has resulted in 1) increased incidences of violent crimes to include murder. Dallas was recently called the nation's murder capital; 2) the increased use of corporate-owned prisons, all of which conveniently support the likes of Tom DeLay, former Governor Bill Clements, George W. Bush, and, more recently, Rick 'Goodhair' Perry, et al.
Now --I knew Bill Clements (R) and State Sen Mike Richards (R) personally. I knew Sen Richards' Chicago-based political consultant, Paul Caprio, very well! Even attended parties and get-togethers in the extremely affluent Houston suburb of Sugar Land, TX.
My fears re: Sugar Land, TX, have been confirmed. Admittedly, fascist idiots are in denial. I can understand that! Truth hurts. The verifiable, official stats re: the contracting to large corporations the task of warehousing those children who were --in fact --left behind by the Bush-Perry NEGLECT of education is a verifiable STAT!
FACT: CORPORATE PRISONS have risen as test scores and high school graduations have declined. Jobs have also declined. TX is NOT a major oil producer anymore. The BUILDING BOOM is history. Nevertheless, corporations like Houston-based KBR (Kellogg Brown and Root) and Dick Cheney's Halliburton are doing just fine, thank you! And they have done so by helping orchestrate the attack and invasion of a nation that HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH 911!
It was --in fact --all about the theft of oil (which TX no longer produces); the meeting of Dick Cheney's Energy Task Force is a documented fact; a detailed map of Iraqi oil fields survived to be published. Live in denial! I don't give a rat's ass what you do! You are a dinosaur; you are wrong but worse wrong-headed. You are ignorant and if you choose to remain so you are stupid.

My post regarding liberalism was aimed at the country generally not Texas specifically, something you would have picked up on had you read my post instead of just jerking the ole knee. In all my posts here I have decried both parties and their living in liberal land. I am tired of the water carrying for the Democrat Party. In being objective I have incurred the wrath and insults of the left here. Tells me volumes. Tells me that liberals, again generally, don't like anyone unless they bow down to their destructive policies and stupidity in EVERYTHING. I could care less about Texas and their liberal vs conservative politics. MY comment, again, was regarding the country generally. Next time read.

When Obama took office I said that we would see a hybrid of political philosophies of socialism, marxism and fascism. We are tending more toward fascism, especially with this gangster administration we have now. Obama is Bush continued I don't care how you slice it.
Actually we were not founded as and are not supposed to be what you say, a democracy. We are supposed to be a republic. The concept of being a republic does not work well with liberals who seem to love democracy at all levels, which is closely akin to fascism. What you consider conservatives to be, fascists, are, in fact, what liberals are. Liberals are about control, about statism which is the primacy of the state over the people. Liberals rule, liberals feel they are better than anyone and feel the need to control all others. Your entire second paragraph is so absurd I don't even know where to begin so the only thing I will say about it tis that it is plain that you have no idea what you are talking about. "I don't like therefore you can't do" should be the mantra of liberalism. They are a danger to freedom and this country. Oh, I don't know if you are a "fundamental coward" or not but it is amusing that you guys seem to like the safety of the internet to insult people. It seems to give you the genetalia you do not otherwise possess.

Get a clue! I only hate 'hate' itself and the right wing lies that go with it. I have NO PROBLEM sleeping at night. On the other hand, a comprehensive, peer-reviewed and published study by psychologists at STANFORD UNIVERSITY has proven to the satisfaction of professional psychologists that REPUBLICANS have more night terrors and nightmares than do normal people.
Other psychologists (to include Carl Jung, as I recall) have said that 'nightmares' and 'night terrors' are manifestations in the dream-state of REPRESSED but fearful urges, anxieties, insecurities and all manner of neuroses and even sexual hang-ups.
This is all consistent with the work of Carl Jung who wrote in his 'The Undiscovered Self' that some 30 percent of every population was 'psychopathic', i.,e utterly without empathy. The Stanford Dream studies are also consistent with a remark I heard on the floor of the GOP National Convention in Houston (early 90s) "Ronald Reagan made us feel good about ourselves!"
That explains Reagan's 'success' (his success; our pain)! It even explains Bush Sr's success --his nasal monotone put people to sleep! The GOP is defined by its fears and neuroses. For example, the GOP believes (say hallelujah) that wealth will trickle down because it RELIEVES them of the anxieties that are caused by being greedy, self-absorbed and most often just plain stupid miserable fucks!

And a lot of it is what the horrible GOP has in mind for the rest of the nation according to the article the same thing they gave to Texas, availability of jobs, low cost of housing, quality of higher education, low taxation, limited regulation of business, limited government and plentiful supplies of oil and natural gas.

Not as many people own outright that are losing them to the banksters
America is becoming a renting nation. Fewer Americans today own the residences in which they live, the Census Bureau reports.
That's not exactly a surprise in these Recession-like time. But more disconcerting to home builders is the data that forecasts fewer Americans will own homes in the near future.
In 2004, 69 percent of all households in the United States owned their own homes. In 2010, the rate slipped to 66.9 percent, the same as the April-June quarter.

Secondly, I suggest that you consult the Bureau of Labor Stats which, last time I checked had not yet tabulated Bush Jr but was current through Clinton. Guess what --EVERY DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT since Ronald Reagan has presided over GREATER JOB and GDP growth than ANY GOP President since WWII. A clue and example: JIMMY CARTER ---irrationally reviled by the CROOKED GOP leadership --handily beats ANY GOP since WWII in both job creation and GDP growth. Additional confirmation of that may be found at the U.S. COMMERCE DEPT-B.E.A. and the U.S. Census Bureau. Knock yourself out!
