Robertson a welcome addition to drug reform circles, former narc tells Raw Story
Count this among the 10 things nobody ever expected to see in their lifetimes: 700 Club founder Pat Robertson, one of the cornerstone figures of America's Christian right movement, has come out in favor of legalizing marijuana.
Calling it getting "smart" on crime, Robertson aired a clip on a recent episode of his 700 Club television show that advocated the viewpoint of drug law reformers who run prison outreach ministries.
A narrator even claimed that religious prison outreach has "saved" millions in public funds by helping to reduce the number of prisoners who return shortly after being released.
"It got to be a big deal in campaigns: 'He's tough on crime,' and 'lock 'em up!'" the Christian Coalition founder said. "That's the way these guys ran and, uh, they got elected. But, that wasn't the answer."
His co-host added that the success of religious-run dormitories for drug and alcohol cessation therapy present an "opportunity" for faith-based communities to lead the way on drug law reforms.
"We're locking up people that have taken a couple puffs of marijuana and next thing you know they've got 10 years with mandatory sentences," Robertson continued. "These judges just say, they throw up their hands and say nothing we can do with these mandatory sentences. We've got to take a look at what we're considering crimes and that's one of 'em.
"I'm ... I'm not exactly for the use of drugs, don't get me wrong, but I just believe that criminalizing marijuana, criminalizing the possession of a few ounces of pot, that kinda thing it's just, it's costing us a fortune and it's ruining young people. Young people go into prisons, they go in as youths and come out as hardened criminals. That's not a good thing."

Maybe Pot, I mean Pat sat down with the Rev. Al Sharpton over an 1/8 oz. of chronic doing bong hits out of Pot's, I mean Pat's crucifix bong and had an apifiny and Al pointed out the verse in the Bible about God telling his followers to use the herbs that he put here to use. But if Pot, I mean Pat knew the real reason why we criminalized weed in the first place he would change his mind. He wouldn't be to happy to know that old black jazz musicians were using weed to corrupt our white daughters and impregnating them.

Want some good brotherly advice ? Invest in a durable, high quality inhaler
so that you can drop using your pipe as a delivery method. Using the herb
in an inhaler will do you as much, and more good than using Vicks vapo rub...
And it won't burn your money so that it goes up in smoke. Your stash will last
a long, long time. And when you find it no longer functions to inhale it,then you
can still put it in chocolate brownies. Waste not want not. That goes for more
than your money. Your life should be infinitely more valuable. Smoking is the
fastest delivery method, but it does significant damage to the lungs, blood
vessels, heart...And will age you faster. All along the way, it will depress your
immune system so that you succumb to infections and get sick more often.
Smoking anything will force you to endure more colds, more commonly. Think. - 1 year ago

If Pat's for it, then it must be bad.
I hereby resign from my "End Prohibition" Stance.[Yes, I am being Sarcastic]
P.S.- For the record, this does NOT absolve Pat from all his other crazy rantings. In fact, it bolsters the fact he is crazy, because the potential fallout from his conservative base will be staggering.

How is this shocking? The bible doesn't speak against marijuana. The only reason pastors are against it is because it's illegal. And the bible says to follow the law of the land.

They would reach new heights of religious experience if they passed a holy sacrament spliff down the pews. How about raising the banner of legalization now Pat.

Well, when he's right, he's right! Cannabis crosses political lines and I guess religious lines also. It's time to re-think prohibition of cannabis and hemp as well. Hemp could create environmentally friendly jobs in America.
If we address the issue of cannabis prohibition, hemp will be set free for industry. The future could be brighter for industry, making environmentally friendly products from hemp. It's a win, win if they let the discussion begin.

That's the reason it was made illegal in the first place. Then when Richard Nixon realized he could use it to silence the voices of those who were protesting the Vietnam war, it turned into a political tool, to spin the American public into thinking they were tough on drugs. They spun cannabis into an 'egg in a frying pan', this is your brain on drugs. Actually they were scrambling the brains of ordinary Americans with 'spin and disinformation'. It wasn't cannabis, it was politicians messing with American minds. Sad, sad, sad!

May God bless you Mr. Robertson. The Christian monks of the
middle ages, living in European countries, smoked Cannabis
Sativa, commonly. They considered it a holy sacrament because
it helped facilitate their communion with the Holy Spirit aka Peace.
My world books on the History of Cannabis in over 60 countries,
on every Continent bear these facts out. - 1 year ago
