Shanklin Mike shows contempt for Current: "I've been pawning your guy's website"
In a despicable, yet revealing moment of vain self promotion, Michael Shanklin, editor at "Peace, Freedom, & Prosperity Movement," revealed his true colors and intentions on a recent Current post.
Shanklin, a reviled and despised Internet troll, wrote the following in response to some constructive criticism:
"You mean like I've been pawning your guy's website?!? lol"
With those words, the cat is out of the bag, and Shanklin's contempt for the Current community is made manifest.
(No doubt the ignorant and uninformed Shanklin met "pwned" Internet slang for "owning" or defeating one's opponent. It is a term of contempt and disrespect, and reveals Mike's true feelings about the Current community.)
Long time Current community members are well aware of Mike Shanklin's constant and incessant libertarian spam being posted on the site. His obnoxious spam is almost always voted up by a host of sock puppets. Shanklin and a few cronies have multiple Current accounts, and use those accounts to manipulate the voting on stories and comments at Current, a rather common practice of the unsavory and ugly side of libertarianism Mr. Shanklin represents.
Current staff would be advised to investigate this nefarious troll and his posse of mentally challenged incompetents, they are terrorists and vandals here at Current, with intentions only to disrupt and dismantle our community.

Nefarious terrorists! Dismantling our community!
People are douchebags. Libertarians are crazy douchebags. This should come to no surprise to you. Yeah, his posts tend to be fallacious and his arguments tend to be ad hominem. How is that any different than the majority of other people on current? Sock puppets and trolls are part of the online community; there is virtually no forum free of them and this site is certainly no exception. He is barely on the radar and not 'pwning' the current community, regardless of what he thinks, but judging by how wound up you seem he is definitely pwning -you-.

Edit: your video begins playing as soon as the page loads, so when I open multiple tabs, refresh the page, or return here after having already watched it, it starts playing anyway. Any chance you could fix that, please?
First of all I'd like to point out that the bill on the tax cuts and the subsequent stimulus that came with it was in fact funded by cuts made elsewhere.
As far as DADT most of what you said is true. "It doesn't matter what people do as long as they don't infringe on you," or I also like "The right to swing my fist ends where your jaw begins." However, blaming the slow action on the "statists" is a little fallacious. Society is always slow to change and large power structures are even slower, and the fact is that the acceptance of homosexuality is a very recent phenomenon in our current history. Sure, other cultures in our past have been openly tolerant, but our culture has centuries of anti-homosexuality to undo. This isn't exactly an overnight process. And without the government to lead the way it probably wouldn't happen - just like without the government those blatantly anti-homo, anti-black, anti-immigrant, anti-whatever would turn to violence in order to enforce their beliefs on those around them. Just look at the Tiller case - a man murders an abortion doctor in a church, then admits it, then assumes he will be acquitted because he was 'saving hundreds of unborn lives.'
This will segue me right into the START treaty. Everything you said about this was also true. I don't trust my government and I damn sure don't trust the Russian government. But the solution isn't to simply throw your hands up and say 'fuck the government.' What we need - and what we've seen more and more people calling for - is an open government. If we know exactly what the government is up to then it becomes exceedingly difficult to corrupt as society generally views corruption as abhorrent and invariably rails against it. Some people argue that in order to keep the peace we sometimes need to keep state secrets, but if something needs to be concealed from the public at large then it is probably not something we should be doing.
Ultimately the way the government works and how well it works is dependent on the society it governs. A government that governs without the consent of the people doesn't govern for long, which means that our government as it stands today is the government that we asked for and it won't change until we get a tipping point of people demanding better. The only way to do that is to get involved.
When your demands and rhetoric are inherently anti-government and anarchist you relegate yourself to the fringes of society and separate yourself from that government. Then you truly lose your control over it.

Five Stars... spot on, and i'm an atheist who has no belief in any "supreme being..." but i have, over my 65 years circling our star, noticed that the "liberals," "progressives," ie, Democrats... have pretty religiously also offered the juiciest teats to blacks and any other group they want votes from.... while those nasty conservatives focus on crap lik "equal opportunities" rather than "equal results.."
Mike... this guy is good, even if he does have that religious undertone.. :)
happy holidays, all!+af
