~heart of winter

Season Yule,
(as winter falls soft and wan
upon a failing breath;
such listless cool breath
as yielding fall),…
will gather her charms in subtle humor portent,
to arouse in ache for spring
anew

all these frosty glitter twinkle shards
of rainbow hue in bulb and tinsel,
are garland round
as hanging ice,…
to mark,… as wish, or promise, or plea,
a cold desire
for warmth again

soft, with frozen trace
springs’ crystal frost lattice,
is born as grown as nurtured
in slow remorseless charm of borrowed light
upon this brittle window pane,
as mute her solstice voice
has spun a vow;
soft fragile-fractal-writ.

… to plead with all such loving diamond tithe,
such heatless passion craft,
of naked chill;

a yearning winter.
