There's nothing like getting a package from home when you're at war

Since Operation Enduring Freedom began in 2001 in Afghanistan, the amount of holiday mail delivered for the year-end holidays exceeded the amount of mail delivered for all previous years, according to Joint Sustainment Command-Afghanistan.

But the real numbers for total mail delivered since January 2010 are mind boggling: more than 54,517,638 pounds were moved by teams of postal pros in Afghanistan, as compared with 34.4 million pounds in 2009 and 19.2 million pounds in 2008. One very key reason for this increase is the 'surge' in the number of troops now stationed in the country, as ordered by President Obama.
